It's tragic with her being so young...It's just a horrible thing! I can't imagine dying at 30...Too young to go, that's for sure...

I cant imagine dying at 18 when I bounced my motorcycle off a '63 Chevy impala 4 door after I ran a stop sign. The Chevy was on US Route 60 in Williamsburg Virginia and probably doing the speed limit of 55 when I pulled out in front of it. My motorcycle was totaled, the frame was broken in three places, the car was totaled as well. No one in the car was injured and I was wearing a helmet as required by law. The helmet saved me from being a vegetable or killed. Other than a broken finger, I walked away from this accident and bought a new motorcycle with my insurance check and have been happy ever after for 31 years since. Helmets cost money, but seatbelts are typically "free".

It seems pretty obvious to everyone that the helmet didn't work. You are a vegetable!

Maybe so, but not everything that occurs on US Route 60 is a bad thing. A year or so after the motorcycle crash, at about 3:00 or 4:00 AM on US 60, a guy in a brand new Chevette hit my '76 Ford Torino used police car [at the time, the car was only two years old] and he then took off like a bat out of hell. I wasn't going to let a hit and run driver get away without at least me getting his license plate number and since he had little four banger and I had a 351 Cleveland police package, I attempted to retrieve the criminal's license plate number with extreme prejudice.

Unfortunately, the Chevette driver failed to negotiate a road construction lane detour and slid through a bunch of lighted barricades, coming to rest sideways against a huge concrete sewer pipe. The Chevette was bowed like the letter "U" and the windows were all smashed as well. The driver, who was not wearing his seat belt, was on the right side of the car and had taken the shift lever with him on the way over there. The Virginia Beach police arrived immediately and the EMT's soon followed. The EMT's got mad because the cop refused to cite the driver for DUI, the motorist was drinking and there were two empty 40 ounce beers in the car. So, to make long story even longer, the hit and run driver didn't get DUI, even though he totaled out his employer's company car. So, not all bad things happen on US Route 60.

If the column that supports the upper section of a seat belt system is deformed in a collision or single vehicle crash, the seatbelt itself may actually separate a person in two. How'd ya like to suffer that process? Half of you is laying on the floor of your vehicle looking up at the other half still belted in the seat thinking, not only did that hurt like hell, but them pants never did go with that shirt.

Pay the 10 bucks for the "accident report" and post it here, it's public information anyway.

Richard,

The accident report is free on the internet. If you were charged $10...well, someone got the better of you.

It reminds me of Junior High when people always tried to sell an elevator pass to the new students. Of course, there was no elevator.

Live and learn, Richard, and maybe next time it won't be so costly.

You didn't get a copy of the official report, you produced a copy of the "unofficial crash report". The "official" report is not posted online.

What is the difference between the "unofficial" crash reports available online and the "official" accident investigation report?

The information you receive is from a radio accident report given to the troop when a road trooper has investigated an injury or fatal motor vehicle accident. After completing the initial investigation at the scene, the trooper calls the troop headquarters (via radio) and gives the dispatch center the preliminary information concerning the accident (date, time, location, injured parties involved, types of vehicles involved, and initial indication of causative factors of the accident). Since the trooper has not completed the investigation at the time the radio report is given to the troop dispatch center, it is classified as an "unofficial" report. After the accident investigation and the official report have been completed, information obtained may require the "unofficial" report to be changed (as reported in the radio report).

How does someone obtain a copy of the official accident investigation report?

When a person wants an official report copy of an investigation into a motor vehicle crash by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the person makes a request to any of the Patrol’s nine troop headquarters or the Traffic Division at General Headquarters. Requests for report copies relating to crashes investigated by local police agencies are referred to the local agency.

How much does the official report cost?

Click Here for information on official accident reports

What information is contained in the official accident report?

The standard four-page accident investigation report includes the following information...

How can I get a copy of the official accident report?

Preliminary crash report information on this web site is posted automatically and remains online for 29 days. To obtain an official accident report copy, or for information about a specific accident, you must contact your local Highway Patrol troop headquarters or the Patrol's Traffic Division at (phone number). Please allow at least ten working days from the date of the crash before requesting the official report.

Can you email a report to me?

Sorry, but no. With thousands of people visiting the site every month, that's not practical. "

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Sagittarius

If you have any worries or problems today, a close colleague could have the answers you seek. Work will be satisfying, and anything to do with children should be very rewarding today. There could be friction with a relative, but it's nothing serious and things will sort themselves out in due course. Again, you must pay attention to your health, Saggitarius: skin infections are a strong possibility at the moment.
