we're thinking really hard about moving to springfield and im wanting to find some things out.
is it a good town/safe to live in and raise a child, good schools and doctors around?
Are people friendly there, I do not have any friends from around there and since we have a young child I figure it may be a little hard to find some.
does anyone have play groups or things like that for moms to get together with small children?
okay is rent expensive or houses, are there good jobs.

Im starting school probably within the medical field either LPN, phlebotomist (blood taker), dental assistant, CNA something like that probably.
Or Im really good with computers and stuff like that.

are there any penpal sites or chatrooms to meet people and try to make friends? im 25 married and have a child.

oh and what about weather, do tornado warnings and such go off a lot there? what about winter is there a lot of ice and snow?

thanks a bunch:)

Geez, almost a month and no advocates/cheerleaders for the town?

I haven't lived there for many years, but I have family there.

Nice size city. Great hospitals. Good schools.

Occasional tornado siren! lol

Weather = snow one day ...two days later, 40's and gone. Nice mix of seasons.

Good luck.

Springfield's good, Nixa's better.

Excellent schools, friendly people.

Cost of living is low compared to elsewhere. We consistently had the low price on gasoline during the crisis. Good medical community in Springfield, you'll be able to learn, work at what you want.

We do live in a storm track here in the 'Zarks. Seems to run from Amarillo, TX through Tulsa, OK, through here on up through St. Louis. We do have tornados, especially in the spring. Winter weather is generally mild overall. It may get severely cold at times but it usually lasts only a few days.

The rule is: "If you don't like the weather, stick around twenty minutes -- it'll change!"

Yeah, Springfield is a great place to be!!! The people are generally friendly, there are jobs everywhere, schools are good, there are play groups (look on Craigslist and such). As for meeting new friends, I suggest MySpace and browsing local people here. There is also LOTS to do here, and lots to see. Plus you are only 30 miles or so from Branson, Missouri (one of the show capitals of the world). Here in Springfield, there is a lake or two, bowling alleys everywhere, high class theaters, awesome parks, etc. I would suggest living here for sure. Electric is cheap compared to most towns as well.

I have to agree with "Jack", live in Nixa, work in Sprfd., unless of course you find a job in Nixa also.

Geat town. I wouldn't live there though. I there are great schools all AROUND Springfield/ Bolivar, Willard, Republic, Nixa, Ozark. These are all nice towns and only minutes from Springfield, except Nixa and Ozark during rush hour. The traffic going south at 5 is nuts.

wow a lot of good comments. the tornadoes is the only thing that scares me. We live around Kennett, MO and a few years ago that bad tornado came through all this area Marmaduke, AR and Caruthersville, MO and we were in Kennett when the sirens were going off....
That is scary b/c when i was pregnant i sat and watched a tornado big blue and pretty yet scary.
I cant handle the tornado areas anymore, its just too much after having dreams and dreams about one ripping off the roof of our house and my 4 year old daughter being sucked up with me holding her hands and the last thing i see in my dream is her crying looking in my eyes saying mommy plz dont let go and then shes sucked up out of my hands.... boohoo, im crying just typing that :(

Thats whats so scary to think about one day the weather is snowing and the next you can go swimming or something around here. we're only about 4 or so hours from there...

I would say that you are living in the wrong part of the U.S. I am the complete oppposite, I love watching tornadoes, as long as they are out in the country where they don't do as much damage. I live in North East Kansas and i can't wait for tornado season to begin. Have been in a few, and yes they are scarry. But from a distance, I think they are awesome to watch.
