Is anyone else suprised at how high their everyday prices are? Sale prices are okay though.

Yes their prices are really high compared to other places. Their food is about the same quality, maybe lower quality in some cases. I'm not impressed with my shopping experience there, and will probably not go back. You also have to pay more in taxes at Hy-vee. I've always heard how good their sub sandwich rolls were, well to me they tasted like oversized hotdog buns, nasty!

NO THANKS HY-VEE!

Agreed. Hy-Vee sale prices are good, but items not on-sale are generally quite a bit higher priced than Fareway. I'm not even overly price conscious when I grocery shop, but I notice pretty easily that Fareway wins. It sucks because Hy-Vee is right around the corner from my place so it's convenient.

The typical cost of purchases at Hy-Vee is nearly 20% higher than your local discount store. If Hy-Vee takes even 30 cents off ten gallons of gas you save $3.00 You have still overpaid $10 or more on a $60 average grocery bill. Hy-Vee is taking advantage of poor families by seducing them with gas discounts.

Horseshit. Nobody is "taking advantage" of poor families. You seem to believe that these folks are too stupid to read a price tag.

Anyone who thinks Hy-Vee prices are too high has never been to Dillon's or Price Cutter. If you do your food shopping at Wal-Mart or Target, maybe Hy-Vee is pricy, but not compared to the grocery options that were here before Hy-Vee arrived.

Hy-Vee produce is WAY better too. They have more selection and it lasts longer, not to mention the selection of organic and gluten free foods they have that no other chain grocery store has in town. Plus, their meat section has a better selection. Sometimes you pay for quality and selection. I'm sorry but if you go to Walmart you are not going to be buying ANY good seafood or any meat that isn't pork, chicken, or beef.
