Maybe if you and others would quit pissing and moaning and with your no doubt brilliance on the subject actually help it would improve. Naw, you'd rather piss and moan.

i will have to agree the Harvest festival(better known as Sorghum festival) getting smaller each year. I'm not on here to put no one down on it but things really do need to change if they want more and more people come to the festival. I know that 25 years ago when i was coming to Sorghum festival on friday nights they would have a hugh pizza made for free to anyone who wanted it and the band they had playing it would be so crowded that you would have to stand in the middle of the street where the stop lights were, and then on saturday mornings they would fix a hugh biscuit for those who wanted sorghum molasses and biscuits and then they had all the contest for the kids so that the winners can ride in the parade that afternoonT, and then the band they would have on Saturday night it would be so crowded like it was on friday nights. You could stand there and watch people make the sorghum right in front of you, which there is a lot of people who don't have a clue about making sorghum molasses. Harvest festival needs more booths but not selling the same product as someone else and don't charge as much for a booth. There were a lot more booths back then there is now. Things need to change if they want a lot more people to come. As far as the band bring in bands that people have heard of if you want a large crowd unless you are worried about the cops not being able to handle such a large crowd, you have to put money into something to get money out of. I went to the car show this year and while i was there it was only 25 and i left. I went to Ham Days car show and they had 220 classic cars at their car show. There was people who took there car and didn't get to put it on main street in lebanon cause they had so many. Too bad that springfield can't be that way. But to have a successfully festival things do need to change. I know that on the weekend harvest festival the reenactment is going on in perryville, maybe they need to change weekends to bring in people, not really sure but it is an idea. I just get the idea that no one wants springfield to get any bigger than it already is. I can give all kinds of ideas but i don't think that no one wants to hear them. I just hope that one year they can have a really big crowd as the surrounding counties. Washington county is my home town and where i am rasing my kids at.

What did you volunteer for John? Don't matter . There has only been one festival worse than this one. That was the year they didn't have one.

No i didn't volunteer at the festival i don't have nothing to do with the festival I don't even know who is over the festival. If i did things would have been done a whole lot different than it has been, I have talked to a lot of people about how this year has turned out. I just wish it was like it was from years ago. It was more enjoyable than this year. I wasn't happy with the name change from Sorghum festival to crossroads Harvest festival.

I have volunteered for a lot of things not for harvest festival. I just wish it was better for everyone.

Those were the good old days. It seems that most displays and booths went away because of the fees that are being charged. Wish it could be like back in the day....

You are right when the tobacco company pulled out the festival went down hill and it is sad to say that but that is what happened. They should have done something different when the tobacco company pulled out and done something different. Not just sit back and let things go down hill. I tell my my how it use to be and they are surprised when i tell them. Still to this day i call our festival Sorghum festival and not harvest festival.

....and you just answered your own question to make a successful festival. You say you went to Ham Days and saw the enormous success there. Why do you think that is.... Look at all the volunteers there that have made this festival successful. They are proud of their community and that pride shows in the efforts that they give to make it so. Not so here. A few attempting to do the same thing with no help from within the community. No one steps up to help. Not even those that supposedly have 'ideas' to make a better festival, but care less giving those ideas out. Im sure the Chamber would be more than interested in hearing your ideas if you care enough to give them. It will be interesting to see if you and other complainers will step up.

Well i will tell you what i will stop at the chamber of commerce and i will give them all the ideas that i have and then will see how far we can get our sorghum festival back up to full swing that it use to be with the ideas that I have. Futhermore i have been doing a lot of thinking about how Washington county doesn't actually have a fair like they use to. Washington county needs to have a fair, where kids can ride rides have truck and tractor pulls demolition derby, some kind of events that will draw in people from other counties. That will be something else that i will bring up when i come to the chamber of commerce.
