It was not Democrats who filibustered, but one Democrat. And as you can see from the votes in both the House and the Senate there was a clear regional division in the Democratic Party.

Now, I wonder why the "great and powerful big government" had to step in as "the benefactor of social justice", was it because the States had failed thier citizens.

Civil_Rights_Act_of_1957
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Rights_Act...
...Democratic Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, an ardent segregationist, sustained the longest one-person filibuster in history in an attempt to keep the bill from becoming law. His one-man filibuster lasted 24 hours and 18 minutes; he began with readings of every state's election laws in alphabetical order. Thurmond later read from the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and George Washington's Farewell Address. His speech set the record for a Senate filibuster.[2] The bill passed the House with a vote of 285 to 126 (Republicans 167-19 for, Democrats 118-107 for)[3] and the Senate 72 to 18 (Republicans 43-0 for, Democrats 29-18 for).[4] President Eisenhower signed it on September 9, 1957.
==========
Civil_Rights_Act_of_1964
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Rights_Act...
On June 11, 1963, President Kennedy met with the Republican leaders to discuss the legislation ahead of his television address to the nation that evening. Two days later, Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen and Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield both voiced support for the president's bill, except for provisions guaranteeing equal access to places of public accommodations. This led to several Republican Congressmen drafting a compromise bill to be considered. On June 19, the president sent his bill to Congress as it was originally written, saying legislative action was "imperative".[5][6] The president's bill went first to the House of Representatives, where it was referred to the Judiciary Committee, chaired by Emmanuel Celler, a Democrat from New York. After a series of hearings on the bill, Celler's committee strengthened the act, adding provisions to ban racial discrimination in employment, providing greater protection to black voters, eliminating segregation in all publicly owned facilities (not just schools), and strengthening the anti-segregation clauses regarding public facilities such as lunch counters. They also added authorization for the Attorney General to file lawsuits to protect individuals against the deprivation of any rights secured by the Constitution or U.S. law. In essence, this was the controversial "Title III" that had been removed from the 1957 and 1960 Acts....

...When the bill came before the full Senate for debate on March 30, 1964, the "Southern Bloc" of 18 southern Democratic Senators and one Republican Senator led by Richard Russell (D-GA) launched a filibuster to prevent its passage.[10] Said Russell: "We will resist to the bitter end any measure or any movement which would have a tendency to bring about social equality and intermingling and amalgamation of the races in our (Southern) states."
Curse you and your "precious" facts !

Right Wing Wackos have their own version of reality and in their version Right Wing Republicans are useless fools, unable to withstand the withering attack of Obama as he continues 95% of RWW Bush's policies.

"The involvement of Paz thickens the plot considerably and shatters the theory that two rogue agents in Cincinnati got bored in their cubicles one day and decided to target for special scrutiny Tea Party and other conservative groups."

And we've already seen Darrell Issa's manipulation of the narrative through selective release of transcripts...
"The full transcript of Paz's interview has not been released. Democrats say that's because the full transcript would reveal no vast left-wing conspiracy, with Elijah Cummings, ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, proclaiming the investigation over.

If Paz and Lerner were not only orchestrating the Tea Party scrutiny but also monitoring the investigation of that action, were these among the things discussed when former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman made 157 visits to the White House?
11 visits or 157, what's the difference ?

The point is that an employee of the federal government entered a government building, at some time during his employment.

I bet sufficient research would also reveal that employees of the FBI, CIA, EPA, NSA, Homeland Security, and dozens of other agencies have been entering and exiting government buildings, including the White House, during the Obama Administration.

I heard that Secret Service agents have actually loitered there in large numbers.

What other proof do you leeeeeeeeeberals need, before you admit the Right Wing Wackos are right about everything ?

Elijah Cummings presses Darrell Issa for IRS transcript decision
By RACHAEL BADE | 6/13/13 2:10 PM EDT
http://www.politico.com/story/2013/06/elijah-...

Rep. Elijah Cummings is escalating his battle with House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa over releasing transcripts of interviews with IRS employees.

Cummings, the top Democrat on the oversight committee, on Thursday sent Issa a copy of transcripts he would like released. In a letter, Cummings asked Issa to decide by Monday which portions of the interview he would like redacted.

...“Although I understand the general concern with disclosing publicly full transcripts, in this case you have already taken numerous unilateral steps that argue in favor of a full release,” Cummings wrote in his letter Thursday.“You chose to unilaterally release select excerpts from these interviews to try to support your claims, you chose to pledge on national television that you would release the full transcripts, and you chose to allow select reporters to review at least some of these transcripts.”

The Maryland Democrat has said he would release all of the transcripts unless Issa does so on his own. In his letter, Cummings offered to redact portions of the transcript if Issa explained his reasoning. He didn’t specify when he might follow through with his pledge.

Cummings has accused Issa of cherry-picking damaging portions of interviews to release to the public. Issa, meanwhile, has warned Cummings that releasing full transcripts would “jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.”

Here comes another scandal involving the State Department. More officials caught lying. What is new. New lies and new liars that is all.
Sure why wouldn't I trust what my government says?
Just ask the liberals on this site and they are telling us that they believe everything the government is telling them. Whats not to believe?
What I do believe is not one thing is being done to prosecute any of these liars for their fraud or their lying under oath. Just endless investigations that seem to go nowhere.

Please, please, don't let me think you, someone I respect, has been successfully brainwashed by Right Wing Wackos into thinking 9/11 and Iraq were connected in any way.

15 Saudi Arabian funded and trained Wahhabi Extremist Muslims,
with their fellow Saudi Arabian funded and trained friends,
attack the WTC.

So we bomb, invade, occupy, and rebuild Iraq.

Only in Right Wing Wacko World does that make sense.

Those two bombers in Boston used to live in Chechnya, or had connections there.

By God, lets invade Tobago !

It's closer than Chechnya and they make those great drinks with little umbrellas in 'em.

----"The conservative groups you belong to want to force their beliefs on everyone and that's not the way it works in America."
Oh please, that is the hallmark of the Democratic/Liberal agenda:
abortion - we don't care that you think abortion is murder, not only did our activist judges contort the Constitution and bypass the democratic process, but we want you to pay for it too. And we don't care that an abortion is an invasive procedure that carries definite risks - your daughter may not be able to get her ears pierced without your permission - but we'll make sure she can get an abortion without your knowledge.
gun control - we don't like guns and we don't think anyone should have them, so we will exploit a tragedy and push for laws limiting law abiding citizens from exercising their 2nd Amendment rights - doesn't matter that we don't enforce existing laws and that those we push wouldn't have made a difference in the tragedy being exploited.
freedom of speech - only if it's speech we the Left approve of - if a conservative somehow gets an invitation to speak at a campus, we'll shout them down - or demand the university rescind the invitation - or destroy the conservative publications that conservative students try to hand out
(or better still, let the IRS harass you)
etc, etc
----"making mountains out of mole hills on a regular basis trying to justify what you do and say no matter what the facts are"
Oh, you mean like:
when a conservative argues that welfare only fosters dependence and doesn't offer real hope - the Left responds that it is only because we hate the poor and want children and old people to starve
"they're coming for our children,...for the sick,...for the disabled..." - John Lewis
when a Republican president takes us into a war, it can't be because he and his advisors believe it is in the best interests of our own national security - it MUST be out of greed for oil and to benefit our greedy business interests.
when a conservative laments the state of our public education system and says there must be a better answer than just throwing more money into a failing system and wants to explore other options - the Left says the Right just doesn't care about children.(but who was it that tried to end the voucher program for poor black children in DC, hmmm)
And these are just the tip of the iceberg.
----"You read a post that differs with what you think and never even consider the other side, just put it down as stupid and inaccurate, without even checking to see if the facts refute what you say."
The hypocrisy of this speaks for itself.
+1,000 one of the very best posts in this thread!

Unfortunately (perhaps fortunately?), you'll get people that will disagree on principle, some that will disagree because they don't like the facts, some that will disagree because they're clueless and uneducated and some that will disagree just because they don't like what you have to say at any time.

No, YOU may be an exception, but your typical liberal thinks helping their neighbor means not giving their own money, but rather taking the hard earned money from others to give to a bloated, inefficient, impersonal bureaucracy that hurts more than helps the recipients.
And time and again I have listed studies that demonstrate that Republicans/Conservatives give far more of their own money and their own time to charity than do Democrats/Liberals.

Remember the pitiful amounts that Clinton/Gore/Biden/Obama tax returns showed was given to charity? Hypocrisy on parade.

I find it interesting that the Lefties on here are the ones who keep bring up possessions and vacations and "who has what", while accusing those on the Right of being the "material" ones.
