last night at 1:30 a.m. my daughters friend was pulled over leaving my houes and detained for 1/2 hour for no reason. When she asked why she was pulled over the officer asked what are you doing and where were you. THIS IS NOT A REASON to pull over a 19 year old girl!!! how rude and how illegal!!!!! Who do they think they are THE NAZI, what gives the Springboro Police the right to do as they please!! the constitutions give us a right to MOVE FREELY AS WE PLEASE and if we are NOT breaking the law then there is on reason to do what this officer did.I think that this is law suite time and retraining for the mis trained young inexperianced officers . I blame the Chief if he allows this, he needs retraining or replacement. THIS REALLY UPSETS ME AS YOU CAN TELL. Please if you have kids and love them and want them to grow up respecting for the police and the laws then we need to unit and regester all the illegal stops and illegal questioning by our OUT OF CONTROL OFFICERS. They need training and some one in charge with a respect to the people of the community which they are hired and paid by us to protect and work with NOT HASSEL AND DEGRADE !!!!
Please respod and get involved if not it could get really bad. Think of our children..

Based on your writing skill and spelling I'm guessing that you did not pass the 6th grade or are a graduate of Franklin HS.

Think of our children? What does that have to do with a teenager being stopped @ 1:30AM by the cops? I'll take a guess and say that she was driving an older car with some problem that alerted the cop to stop her and check her out.

Sounds like he was just doing his job to help keep the drunks off the road and your daughter's innocent friend got stopped in error. But I have to wonder why you are so upset about an innocent kid getting stopped by the cops and allowed to go on her way. There must be more to the story...

Lawabiding Citizen... If you are a police officer. GET A CLUE, If you have problems with other people's grammar, talk to your local school district I'm sure they would love to hear what you have to say. Obviously you have no problems with grammar, but your reading skills could use some work. I'm 19 years old and even I understand what our friend is trying to say. Let me break it down for you bud... "think of our children"; How the hell do you expect kids to respect the police and even any form of authority these days if their prime examples (the police) cant even respect them.
I searched the issue of police profiling under google which brought me to this forum because no more than an hour ago I was driving down our small town's main road to spend some time with my girlfriend. I drive a lifted jeep . It doesn't take a genius to tell I'm a teenager. Anyway... Driving is our way to relax and escape the normal stresses of life... yes even at 1 in the morning. Anyhow were driving and some jackass decides to tailgate me which annoys the living hell out of me. I decided to be nice and let the guy pass me because obviously he was in a hurry to get somewhere at 1 in the morning. I pulled into a neighborhood to let the guy go and as you may have guessed he followed me onto the road I turned on to. The lights were flashing in a matter of seconds... I was pulled over, for what reason? I have no idea but obviously this guys a cop I must have done something wrong. To make a long story short I ask him why I'm being pulled over and the only answer I get is YES i can tell you why your being pulled over... he only answers yes. I asked multiple more times... still only answer he gives me is yes. The ass hole combed everything to try to find some dirt... smelled my breath... searched my car ... ran all my paperwork ... questioned my girlfriend... Plus another 30 minutes of bullshit. For the final time I asked the cop why I was being pulled over... So he gives me an answer... I was swerving... You will have to take my word for this one... I wasn't swerving... I have had lots of situations like this one happen in the past so when I drive I drive like a 50 year old man... Safe as can be. Plus how the hell does he know if I was swerving anyhow... There is no possible way he could have been able to tell if i was swerving from where he was parked... Long story short Its bullshit... I have been to court and had police lie to the judge... I even see the dirty shit that happens behind the scenes with cops (My girl friends uncle is the county DA and he is also my dads best friend and he is also my neighbor) Its fucked up... we are supposed to be able to trust the legal system. Instead they take advantage of their authority ... I could tell all kinds of stories and bitch about all kinds of stuff but ill stop writing a book here....
The bottom line... IF you the reader, are a police officer. PLEASE don't dick people... You expect respect but many of you don't respect us. Do the right thing. No more bullshit.

SPD has a very serious maturity and discretion problem.
SPD has very little actual police work besides traffic.
There are too many officers, and they are bored.
If you feel you have been mistreated do not hesitate to file a complaint.
Even though nothing immediate will happen, the complaints do add up, and at some point SPD will make a serious blunder, and when they do - out comes all the complaints.!!

About filing a complaint -
Don't expect any sympathy from commanding officer.
Be prepared with officer(s) proper name(s)
Go in with complaint letter already typed and hand it to officer taking complaint.
Stay very calm! Do not get emotional when talking to officer taking complaint. They have this way of letting you talk talk talk until you start to sound like a nut job - don't fall for that.
State your complaint - answer any questions asked of you - and stay on point. DO NOT use foul language, DO NOT yell, and Don't cry!!
If video is available - politely request a copy.
It's easy to file a complaint - don't be intimidated.
If you feel that SPD in anyway retaliated against you for complaining - then document what they did and call local FBI office.
However - I do NOT expect SPD to retaliate.
One last thing - tell everyone you know about what happened, and that you filed a complaint - that will encourage others to do the same.

I feel that the springboro police department has nothing to do except for give all the kids a hard time. The police spend more time showing up with four patrol cars to a traffic stop rather than the last 3 cars that show up to keep patrolling for the whole lot of NO crime. My former neighbor was over 70 years of age and has been to court 4 times for parking the wrong way on the road while UNLOADING his vehicle. This is ridiculous, they need to find better things to do. There are too many cops for this little town with nothing in it. They monitor kids houses that smoke cigarettes? The cops are rude, and they only profile kids and trashy cars, if you drive a mercedes, they fly right by you-speeding- the same thing thet pull you over for. I guarantee, over 65% of the population in Springboro, OH would like to see a change in the police department.. they need to help out the community instead of pester it... which is all they do.. pulling you over for 1 mile an hour over the speed limit. Sorry springboro, your PD sucks and has no work to do except annoy the citizens with ridiculous reasoning. and cops- no one likes you... NO ONE.

Most people in the community did not live here when we had fine officers like Mr. Reedy and Mr. Johnson. Both lived here as well. I know of nobody who does not complain about this current group of officer's. I have heard and read many stories. Just yesterday I heard one of a man who was ticketed for expired plates when he moved his van to the side of his house so he could use his driveway for equipment he was using for home repairs! Was this man guilty of an offense? Yes he was. But they must have ran his plates and found he was parked on the street in front of his own home IN SPRINGBORO with no record. Was an expensive citation in order? I don't think so and believe a warning would have sufficed. The motto is "To Protect and Serve". This group of SPD officers could have learned quite a bit from Mr. Reedy and Mr. Johnson when it comes to the "Serve" part in the community.
I do not want to agree that there is a problem of maturity, common sense and duty to the community as it involves SPD. Unfortunately, I have to agree.
Young Mr. Zach you need to clean up you language but other than that; I can see your pionts and agree with your frustration. I don't think young man many your senior adults would disagree with you. I for one do not want to see our youth shaken down and searched for no good reason other than the fact the law allows it. All the DARE participation in the world will not erase stories like yours that the police are not to be trusted and yes they do lie. It is part of the job unfortunately.
There was a time when police officers were respected in this community because they "served" the community as well as protected us. Somewhere along the years they lost their way. I wish it were different and we could read positive postings about SPD. Sadly, none are to be found.

Iwas glad to move from Springboro, because of SPD. No one in our family was ever in any trouble with the law yet we were constantly harassed and pointedly told by some officers that we do not make enough money to live there. So much for thr "Land of the Free". What comes around, goes around, their time will come and they will get whats coming to them.

I totally agree with all these statements. All I have ever heard is how bad SPD is, well I finally know first hand. My daughter recently had a baby and was visiting a friend to watch the OSU game last Sat. They also watched Jesey Shore, etc. Well at 11pm her friend was taking her and the baby home when she got pulled over for no light on the license plate. He ran a check and my daughter had some unpaid fine (underage drinking) from last summer. He proceded to arrest her and take her to jail. Note baby in car..no drinking..no drugs..a frickin light out. She begged him..told him she was breast feeding..cried. He told her there are alternatives to brest milk..get over it. Granted she should have paid her fine..but this just burns me up that this cops have no compassion..no common sense. When I was growing up we respected the police...they treated us the same..now it's just plain scary.

Did the Springboro Police should change the "Protect and Serve" to "Harass and Arrest" ?
My high school daughter who does not have a baby, does not have any prior arrests, and did not have any lights out on her car was pulled over late Saturday night by one of Springboro’s “finest”. When she asked him why, he asked if she would step out of the car, and can he search the car, WTF? Who do they think they are? I guess your innocent until proven guilty, and they are going to harass and search until they can find something your guilty of. Who are they protecting and who are they serving? After looking in the car and finding no reason to arrest her, he told her to be careful driving home. That one incident totally changed the way she thinks of police, from someone who could help, to someone to be afraid of. I’ve told her if anything like that happens again to her stop, lock the doors, call 911 and say there is someone with a gun that looks like a policeman that pulled you over and your afraid to be alone with him. It should be no time till backup comes, they seem to travel in packs anyway.

Boro Mom: I guess your daughter should not have gotten busted for underage drinking and not paying her fine. Personal responsibility plays a role here. Not the officers fault the court issued an arrest warrant.
Boro Dad: The advice you gave is obsurd. Inducing panic is a good way to get arrested for sure!

Well it seems after her going to court yesterday that it was all a "misunderstanding". Judge appologized to her and said none of it should of happened. Someone messed up and didn't get the record correct. Of course that doesn't get her 2 days back with her child but whatever right? The only thing I'm asking is can they use a little common sense? When we were robbed in July we didn't get that much attention.

I had four (yes, I literally mean four) officers at my house for an hour on the report that I had stolen lumber from a construction site. The reality was that I had been dumpster diving with my ten year old for scraps to use to build a tree fort. The job site had tons on uncut pieces of lumber that were untouched, and when the SPD showed up and found a half a dozen pieces of cut lumber in my garage they were sure they had cracked a serious case. The officer freaked out when I used the term dude and told me that he was going to arrest me. They were prepared to enter my house to arrest me (I was in the basement and did not hear the doorbell), but my dogs encouraged them to stay outside. Officer Dunkel was the most immature unprofessional police officer I have ever come accross. If he is a typical SPD member, then we need to clean house starting with the Chief who must condone such behavior since I don't seem to be the only one that has issues with them.
I will not only never vote for a police levy again, but I will lead the campaign against it.

This is a classic case of the SPD. They have notthing to do so they run around and worry about people stealing scrap wood? They thought they may have had the biggest bust ever! It does not take 4 officers to investigate some missing wood. These cops are ridiculous and there only needs to be about 2 in the whole city. Their two main roads dont have enough activity for 10 officers ot be on duty every hour.

If you are having police problems, I suggest you obtain a copy of the book entitled "Arrest Proof Yourself" and enjoy reading about the modern era and it's "Pro-Active" policing techniques. It pays to be able to think like the police and to speak the language. If you understand them and the conditions they have to contend with, you will appreciate them more and will stay out of trouble yourself. On the streets, The Police have complete authority to act whenever they have a reason to be suspicious. Thank God for the police!
