Oh pu-leeze! You need a different hobby, Mr. Witsken. Next you'll be posting pictures of the grass that has died at our buildings (should the district waste money on water to keep it alive during this drought, or waste the grass?!) It's been HOT and DRY--conditions for landscaping are rough, to say the least. Half of the homes and businesses in Springboro have dying trees, shrubs, bushes, and grass due to the conditions we have had this summer. Some sad looking trees at a school is not news-worthy.

POSTED IN "PICTURES" SECTION:

"These dying spruces behind Five Points Elementary should never have been planned for this spot due to too much flowing storm water + alkaline leachate oozing out from under asphalt bus turn-around."
__________

RBf, what you see in this photo has very, very little to do overall with the drought of 2010.
But to be 100% fair to your arguement, this current drought may very well become the final nail in the coffin for them.

These 3 trees, like many others around this facility, have been ravaged repeatedly by spruce mites, bagworms & various sorts of scale since Five Points Elementary first opened its doors.
Since it has opened just 4 years ago, Five Points Elementary has lost spruce, oak, poplar trees, & maple trees. To put it mildly, a number of red maples there are far beyond the point of being aesthetically pleasing.

Typically, the average healthy tree or bush is able to handle 1 or 2 seasons of insect or mite damage. But once you add in negative environmental factors such as poor drainage or the presence of either an extreme acid or alkaline soil pH level (opposite of specific plant requirements), the damage caused by juice-sucking mites or chomping bagworms is magnified exponentially because quite often the plant cannot create enough new growth to offset the root or crown growth that was lost.

These 3 trees specifically, because of their location in a runoff swale, have their roots literally drowned during every major rainstorm or snow run-off. Then the soil compacts & bakes like a cake during drought periods.
No landscape designer in his right mind should have ever planned coniferous trees in this specific location.

If one of these spruce trees had been planted anywhere near the front entrance doorway of the school & it had developed the same level of bagworm problems that they've some of them had had over the last 3+ years, there would have been an immediate A.P.B. issued to the district garage for someone to drive over & spray them.
They're planted behind the building. Out of sight, out of mind.
What's the difference?!?
Their planning, purchase & installation was paid for by this district's taxpayers, right?
They should be thought of as part of the infrastructure of Five Points Elementary School, and put on a preventive maintenance schedule not a whole lot different than roofs, boilers & busses.
Otherwise, they simply are physical representations of yesterday's tax $$ being neglected, unceremoniously yanked out & tossed away.
Its ok

The school district has bigger problems than a few trees......you gotta get a life. Did you miss out on the job of planting these...is that why such the fatuation?

John, you are so lonely and vindictive now, you are actually answering yourself in this post! Sad......

You really could have been something, instead, you are continuing to choose to be part of the problem, rather than part of the solution. And don't blame your election defeat...you remained a part of the problem even when you were on Council.

Oh my, thanks for the laughs, Sarah Jobe. Talk about answering yourself, I see you have ANOTHER ID working last night. And you just happened to be online after "it's ok" posted. You're quite transparent, Sarah Jobe. Why not get a hobby doing something other than stalking and insulting me?

Threatening me, are you Sarah Jobe? I wonder what Jeff would think of that, along with the stalking you are doing? I suggest you find another avenue of entertainment.

No, I am not a landscape contractor.
I am a district parent living nearby.
Our kids went there when it opened, and have since moved on to the hill campus.
Because I regard Five Points as part of the neighborhood proper, I've chosen to continue to work with the district's business office as unofficial landscape advisor & volunteer.

FP & Dennis both opened in the fall of '06.
You might remember we experienced a bad drought in the summer of 2007 much like this one, but somewhat earlier.
At the time, it shouldn't have taken any landscape expert to see that the newly installed trees were suffering direly from lack-of-H20.
Newly planted trees of course don't have much 'reserves' because they're not rooted in to anything yet.
The power-that-be at the business office was genuinely concerned, but in the end, didn't or couldn't do squat about it, despite my watering advice at the time.
It was about this time that I learned that there was no preventive maintenance program whatsoever drawn up for the landscape & trees.

The rest is history...

You can still see damage from this '07 drought as you walk or drive around the west side Five Points & see the ragged, ruined crowns of red maples.
This drought was the beginning of the end for a number of trees at Dennis, too.

And yes, I agree. You're 100% correct.
The Springboro School district & its supporting taxpayers face MUCH bigger problems right now than dying trees & bushes.

My ultimate point:
If any party were to need tangiable evidence of THEIR recent tax money wasted, they needn't look any further than the rapidly decaying landscape plantings at Five Points & Dennis Elementaries & (the slightly older) Springboro High School.

Moral?
Before you PLANt....you need to PLAN!

Parise, you are a one of a kind. We watch you post under your name, then try to go "undercover" and use different names to blast council members by name? Surprised you have not been sued for slander. Keep it up. You are just what this community does not want or have any use for.

I apologize for those who have no interest in the bantering between me and those who wish me ill. I did not start this nonsense, but whenever I speak out on ANY subject, I am almost immediately attacked with misinformation that has nothing to do with the subject matter. I WILL NOT be intimidated by that group, the group that I had run ins with while on council, primarily the waste of tax payer dollars on the Heatherwoode Golf Course. I have nothing but what I consider the best interests of the citizens when it comes to the city spending their hard earned dollars.

Bottom line...I will defend myself against the slanderous and childless statements made against me.

There must some explanation why 3 of our council members are late/delinquent paying their property taxes, isn't there? Would like to hear it

This is not surprising. As the new deputy mayor is Mr. Agenbroad's next door neighbor, it stands to reason that he is trying to stack the deck so he can continue "business as usual". Perhaps we will see better turnout this election. If not, you are likely to see the same ol same ol. He has to be scared since his opponent in the last mayoral election almost beat him. The whole Silver Star debacle is still there, too.

pastor moore is more like Jim Jones and the "kool aid" gang...heard his church is more politics than "love thy neighbor"...can't imagine folks want him to be on council..

I was watching the city council meeting last time, and noticed the duputy mayor(Chmeil) suddenly has bleach blonde hair. What's with that?

Interesting...does the blond hair
make the puppet strings more visible? Inquiring minds dont want to know...

the mayor's neighbor is a puppet to the mayor. whatever the mayor wants, his neighbor & deputy mayor jumps. the council and committees are as thick as thieves in this city, most under the mayor's influence.

Read the same thing. Did a little research into the new city council. Good grief, are any of them NOT connected to the mayor outside of council? Talk about as hangmans' court, so to speak. This sounds like a reward for sucking up to the good ole boys.

Look for the deputy mayor hosting the "Relay for Life " at North Park, which is usually attended by a cameo appearance by the mayor. The grooming for mayor begins..."Jimmy." is not to be trusted
