Textbook fundraisers? What the heck is that?

Textbooks=basic education covered by tax dollars.

Too bizarre for words.......

Stupid ideas from people willing to do or say anything so long as THEY don't have to pay taxes. ANY taxes!

Textbooks shouldn't be something a district like springboro has to have a pizza party fundraiser for. Textbooks are not a luxury but a necessity. These anti levy people would disagree. Which is why I am voting YES . I don't believe their hype and I don't believe Kelly kohls would ever support textbooks for your child or mine so join me in ensuring OUR children have textbooks by voting yes tomorrow.

The good DR. suggested at the last BOE meeting that the district hold fundraisers to purchase new textbooks. She said people would be happy to go to Campioni's and eat to support a fundraiser where 10% of sales would be donated for textbooks.

Let's assume the 8th grade class needs new Social Studies textbooks, which cost $100 each. There are 415 students in 8th grade.$41,500 would be needed.

If a family of four spends $30 to eat at Campioni's on the night of the fundraiser,$3 would be donated to the textbook cause.

That means, only 13,833 families would need to participate!

Fundraisers are nice, but they can never bring in the money that schools need. The clubs that my kids are in always have fundraisers, but they only earn a few extra dollars to buy a printer cartridge or photocopies for their club.

Dr. Kohls, and I use that term loosely, is clueless. She is in over her head on the BOE and needs to remove herself. She is a joke!

Why isn't the COMMUNITY investigating into creative ideas like this? If the school district can raise a thousand dollars here and there to off-set the costs of textbooks, why not? I know there are plenty of high school seniors looking for community service hours to meet their graduation requirement. Why is it that NFSS can use fundraisers, but the school can’t? The admin was willing to serve ice cream, why not pizza to raise money for textbooks, to help offset the cost in a difficult economy. That sounds like a community coming together to support a common cause. I am sure NFSS has some extra money after this election they may be able to donate to the cause. If they can organize an ice cream social, why not a fundraiser to support the kids? Dr. Kohls has some great ideas, and the pro- and anti- levy supporters need to put down their guns and listen to act upon common sense, not their own interests.

That is so true. These pro levy people just don't get it. They have been GIVEN everything since they were born. Never had to lift a finger, wash a car, deliver a paper. Their parents just wrote a check. This KRAP it's too hard has got too stop. There is a bigger picture here of doing community service, That is the lesson. These people just hate Dr. Kohls because she asked questions and wants the public informed as to what the BOE does. They can't stand that their lil buddy Ira lost and they lost all their favoritism. Grow up and roll up your sleeves you lazy turds!

What's the big deal about textbooks? This is now the 21st century, isn't it?!? My grandchildren hardly ever lug books home from school anymore! Almost all of their assignments these days are on the computer's Study Island or other sites.

And as far as school time is concerned I understand quite a number of the district's computers were donated by Wright State University or Wright Patt (one or the other, I can't remember!)...so taxpayers didn't have to pay much if anything for district-owned computers.
You walk into any classroom in almost all grade in this district and you see gobs of computers!
Sure hope like hell they're getting used enough!

Textbooks are a NECESSITY! Some homes don't have access to computers. Certainly not one computer per child for homes with more than one student. They would never be able to all get their homework done if all texts were only online. You're not too bright, either. Are you a friend of the good DR.?!

What has caused this arrogant display of hatred for Dr. Kohls? Textbooks were not the point. The point was that fundraisers were an option to bring the community together.
How much do the athletic boosters raise every year? Imagine if there were academic boosters.
What would you have said if Gentry or Scott made the suggestion?

So why doesn't Kelly hold a fundraiser if it's such a great idea?

Regardless of this levy, we as a community need to come together and help solve our problems. No one is stating that textbooks should be paid 100% by fundraisers. If a group of dedicated moms much like NFSS or educate springboro community members want to get together and plan a fundraising activity, what's the problem? If they raise 1,000 or 2,000 that's 2,000 saved. Simply put, the COMMUNITY needs to come together since in this economy EVERY dollar counts. It we can buy just a few more text books, books, paper, ink, computers, technology etc. from fundraiser money, job well done! That's what tight-knit community members do, they come TOGETHER, regardless of diffrences!

Saturday November 13. Is Kelly Kohls attending? How about Mrs. Petroni or Mrs. Rigano? No? It's a great opportunity to show community support!

Come to think of it I didn't see any of the three at the last two casino nights. That's the biggest fundraiser for th athletic boosters.

Plenty of current opportunities that the not so good definitely not 'real' doctor Kohls has been missing while she's huddling with Petroni and Rigano trying to create more conspiracy theories ;-)
