Got it. How our students (a human being) are being treated is FAR LESS IMPORTANT than the almighty dollar.

Yes, I Remember the leadership of the Boosters encouraging everyone to rally against the "theft" of their funds by the Board of Education in the aftermath of Mr. Harves' actions.

I will never forget the July 2012 Boosters Protest Rally in public school board business meeting, against the Three Board Members who were being honest with this community, doing their jobs that they were elected to do.

In November 2011, Springboro concerned citizens David Petroni and Jim Rigano, ran for school board election and won on their Three campaign promises:

Number One: Children First - Budgt for educational and support services for children first. No holding parents hostage over things like bussing and classroom fees.

Number Two: Rebuild Confidence - We'll make sure the strife and waste caused by 5 unnecessary levy attempts never occurs again, and we'll turn the TV cameras back on so you can hold us accountable.

Number Three: While our opponents were asking for nnecessary taxes, we analyzed the budget presenting 12 concrete budget saving steps worth over $30M. The result: a $6M surplus, lower fees, and restored services for children.

Rarely do we see those running for elected office actually get to work, after they are elected, doing for the people what they say they will do during their campaign, but that is exactly what these two board representatives have done for our school children and community!

It has been ever so painful to see these good citizens, David Petroni and Jim Rigano, who are successful in their chosen profession in the work place, great neighbors, responsible parents, and honest elected officials, be the human targets of the OEA/SEA war of words which is continuously launched against all Springboro Taxpaying Citizens in the union's quest for more power and money for local, state, and federal unions' first best interest. As one voice, one vote, I cannot apologize for those who continue engaging in this politics of personal destruction
to discredit character and distract from educational/budget issues;
each one of citizens has the equal right of free speech and equal representation in our local government; but I will continue to use my one voice to express Thanks and Appreciation to board members David Petroni and Jim Rigano; and ask that they stay the course in the board room, doing what's right for our school children and community, even when the right thing to do is not popular with all school employees and all community members.

With the TV cameras turned on, Yes We Can, hold all five of our BOE representatives Accountable, putting our students first, while maintaining fiscal integrity. And that's a good thing for all our students, school employees, and taxpaying citizens/voters.

"Least elegant response"? That's another good spin. A BOE Member threatens some anonymous minor he believes to be a high school student and you call it that?
Put some spin on the fact that not only were our children shortchanged by the financial machinations of our former athletic director, he did it while pleading poverty in hopes of getting more money for a flush school district.

That is like killing your parents then asking for the courts to have mercy on you because you are an orphan.

Whose sin was proportionately larger, Mr. Petroni's or Mr. Holtrey's?

Or Mr. Holtrey's former boss, Mr Malone, for failing to provide any leadership in this arena and fostering a laissez-faire atmosphere of don't ask, don't tell in regards to money flowing around him to support his school's children and programs.

And at least Mr Petroni offered up the mea culpa.

Let's see this human being was not raped, robbed, beaten, starved, unnecessarily imprisoned,, shot, stabbed, removed from school, had a cross burned in their front yard, assigned more homework, or any other heinous form of maltreatment. This person was the recipient of an email with a single sentence in it that made no sense whatsoever.

On the flip side, over a million dollars has been diverted from our athletic programs by people put into positions of trust by this community.

Proportionately I am going with the million dollars that was intended for our children but somehow through mismanagement, diversion of funds, and outright theft has disappeared over a sentence in an email which makes no sense whatsoever.

Million plus dollars lost vs single syntactically challenged sentence.

Yes, I am going with the loss of a over a million dollars as being more proportionally wrong.

@Doug Wiedeman....."Or Mr. Holtrey's former boss, Mr Malone, for failing to provide any leadership in this arena and fostering a laissez-faire atmosphere of don't ask, don't tell in regards to money flowing around him to support his school's children and programs."

Malone's true history as SHS principal proves his failures to provide any leadership in this arena. Malone was enabled by the network of previous board members and school administrators (growing closer together in the protection of keeping each others' continuing sins hidden from public scrutiny).

In 2012, with new board members and school administrators, finally the sins of love of money, deeply embedded in Malone's status quo tunnel vision, came to light; then ......

In August 2012, a new superintendent came on board.

The February 11, 2014, issue of DDN article states: Probe of Coach Camps to Continue....

"Springboro Community City Schools would like to assure the community that as problems came to light, we took action to restore and improve responsible financial oversight," Superintendent Todd Petrey said, in a statement posted on the district website."

It appears that the investigation is still ongoing into the legal investigation of Malone's involvement of past failed practices, along with former athletic directors/coaches; so nothing is final.

As to our current Athletic Director (hired in August 2013) and his Spending Over his Budget, this failed practice of financial irresponsibility is now under the oversight of the Athletic Director's boss, our school superintendent, Mr. Todd Petrey.

People in this community should ask Mr. Petrey how these "actions to restore sand improve responsible financial oversight" is working out for our athletic director's 2013-2014 overspent budget. Why is the Athletic Director asking Springboro Taxpayers, once again, to pick up the tab for our school district's elite million dollar a year sports program?

The February 11, 2014 DDN article states:

"Over the past two years, the school board adopted new policies
requiring all coach camp finances to be accounted for in the board office. The new policies split camp revenues 80 percent for coaches, minus expenses; and 20 percent to the district. Coaches are expected to set up corporations to manage and account for the funds and pay staff, facilities-use fees, insurance, taxes and other expenses."

People in this community should ask the Athletic Director if he has practiced these new policies; and if not, then WHY is that?
Taxpayers should not be held accountable for investing more of our school taxes on Athletics in this school district.

Who gets an 80% commission on captured sales?

Only a naive child would think this is a fair and equitable program.

The school district is the one that provides the facilities, the overhead, and the captured client base to whom these coaches sell their services.

Does anyone think for a moment that if Troy Holtrey held a basketball camp in Coshocton, OH that he would drag in 200 plus kids per session?

How about Ryan Wilhite taking his expertise on the road to Evansville, IN, let's see how well attended his football camp would be?

People attend these camps because they are local, think it never hurts to patronize the future coach, and the kids get to hang around with their friends for a few day.

These coaches are already being paid to do the job and as I reiterated many times, if you are in it for the money you are going to get screwed.

These coaches knew how much the position paid before taking on the responsibility, diverting money away from the support organizations that support the teams to coach's pocket is just wrong.

These coaches either want to build a winning program and see kids develop or they don't care that much.

If they don't, get out of the way and let somebody else in there that does.

No spin about it; just another false accusation manufactured, using our Students as Victims of the board member; just as Malone used our Students as Victims who were "threatened by the board members of losing their beloved Principal Ron" during Malones March 2012 unsuccessful attempt to overthrow a free 2011 school board election.

No spin about it! That Ron Malone is one mean-spirited, bitter, arrogantly rude old retired SHS principal, whose true history as a professional educator is just not as golden as you have been led to believe.

Million plus dollars stolen from our children and their programs, that supports an awful lot of children first.

Since you are on your kick that everyone should put aside their concern with money, if they would have put the children first do you think they would have diverted money from the children's support organizations into their own pockets instead?

Let us review the report from the State Auditor on our summer camps

State Auditor Report
Springboro Community City School District
December 12, 2013

"1. Springboro Boys Basketball Camps
A bank account was maintained by Troy Holtrey, the former Springboro High School head basketball coach and former ATHLETIC DIRECTOR who operated the camp. Mr. Holtrey indicated that he had been operating camps for approximately 20 years. He believes he opened the account in 2004/05 per the request of the Superintendent. Prior to operating his own bank account the camps financial activity was accounted for by the Springboro Boosters.

Mr. Holtrey indicated that after he had paid for all of the expenses (camp workers, t- shirts, basketballs, etc.) related to the camp, he considered any funds remaining from the fees he collected to be his stipend.

2. Springboro Football Camp
A bank account was maintained by Ryan Wilhite, the Springboro High School head football coach who operated the summer football camp. Mr. Wilhite indicated that he had been operating a camp for approximately 7 years. He believes he opened the account in 2009 per the request of the former ATHLETIC DIRECTOR (Mr. Holtrey).

Prior to operating his own bank account, the camp’s financial activity was accounted for through an organization known as the ‘Springboro Football Moms Club’ and the Springboro Boosters.

During our interview, Mr. Wilhite stated that some of the checks that were written to him were used to pay for other High School team related expenses, pay camp workers in cash or reimburse him for other expenses made out of personal funds. He also indicated that after he had paid for all of the expenses (camp workers, t-shirts) related to the camp, he considered any funds remaining to be his stipend.

3. Springboro Girls Basketball Camp
A bank account was maintained by Tom Benjamin, the Springboro High School girls head basketball coach who operated summer camp. He noted that he had operated summer camps for approximately 5 years and he has always had this outside account.

According to Mr. Benjamin, he collected camp fees for a summer girls basketball camp he operated. After he had paid for all of the expenses (camp workers, t-shirts, basketballs) related to the camp, he considered any funds remaining from the fees he collected to be his stipend.

4. Springboro Baseball Camp
We did not meet with Mr. Pelfrey, boys head high school baseball coach; however, from review of the outside bank account we found that a separate outside account was first opened in April 2011.

Upon review of the outside bank account it appeared as if Mr. Pelfrey paid himself a stipend with the fees collected for the camp after he had paid for all the camp related expenses (insurance, camp workers, t-shirts) which was consistent with how the coaches for the boys basketball camp, girls basketball camp, and football camp paid their stipends.

5. Springboro Girls Volleyball Camp
A bank account was maintained by Kevin Sedensky, girls high school head volleyball coach who operated a summer camp.

Per a memo Coach Sedensky wrote to the District dated August 7, 2012, in April 2011 the District’s ATHLETIC DIRECTOR directed him to open a summer camp account in his name.
Mr. Sedensky also operated the Panthers Youth Volleyball league activity in this bank account in the winter of 2012."

And how much did the coaches bleed off over a decade or so?
