Could a red ribbon campaign help for S-U-R-E?

A legitimate question, and I don't know the answer.

What ever happened to that $400,000 that was stolen by that Springboro Athletic Boosters officer?

Does anybody know the answer?

Since you can't get a clear response from the other posters:

A former booster club treasurer paid back the last of the nearly $440,000 he had stolen from the group at his sentencing Tuesday.

Harves, 61, paid $157,883 to the Springboro Athletics Booster Association, fulfilling the courtís order to make full restitution. He had previously repaid $281,572.

Thank You. Can you tell us if that $440,000 was paid to the School District Treasurer,
(who was Tracy Jarvis at the time). Can you tell us if that $440,000 was credited to our school's athletic program account?

Can you tell us why the NFSS manufactured a false "budget crisis" in the board room,
protesting our current board members for being honest enough with Springboro Taxpayers to tell us the truth....

That our school district finances afforded increased pay for every school employee,
meeting the needs of our Students First 21st Century classroom education, maintaining
fiscal integrity through 2017 -- and, giving a little something back to the Community?
Why did Charles Anderson, Ron Malone, and David Stuckey OPPOSE the current
board's unanimous decision to give back to the Community, before they jumped on
this "insanely popular with the community" reduced renewal levy that SAVES taxpayers $6.5 million?

Can you tell us why our current Athletic Director is going around "outside our schools" complaining to others that the "rich" people in Springboro won't pass a levy needed to
hire extra coaches that he needs to implement Springboro's elite athletic program?

These are just a few of the many questions that those on the "outside" are asking,
and will continue asking, as our new board members- elect get on the "other side of the
board table." Do you think, now that we got Malone in the hot seat in the board room, that Springboro Taxpayers can truly question "Which one is lying" just like Ron's Kids
modeled for us in the High School Auditorium during the "re-instate Ron Malone's
Status" protest AGAINST our current board's authority to offer Ron Malone a
big job promotion to district office to "better utilize his past 41 years of experience
in education?"

Do you think that Ron Malone would have won second place in his
own November 5th popularity contest, IF "we the people" had been
given the True History of this high school principal's failed practices of running our high school like a union shop, back in March 2012, when
Ron's Kids were led to break their students code of conduct rules,
showing NO RESPECT for board authority, protesting on behalf
of keeping "business as usual" in the SHS union shop?

How ironic that many of the Adult and Youth Union Activists who
modeled for our entire community, NO RESPECT FOR AUTHORITY
OF OUR BOE ELECTED OFFICIALS, are the same Adult and
Youth Union Activists that have protested for S-U-R-E since March 2012, AGAINST our current board members, DEMANDING RESPECT
FOR OUR TEACHERS, in the Dollar Amount of NEW TAXES for
more, more, more increases in wages and compensation/benefits
packages for the school union employees!

As the man who led our school district as high school principal for 13 years, Ron Malone held a special place of trust, authority, and influence in our community. How he chose to use those gifts is revealed in the public records reports of his professional peer reviewers, his superiors, and his own public pronouncements.
It is not as golden as you have been led to believe.
DECEMBER 2010 - Warren County Educational Service Center audit
report on SHS program of studies RECOMMENDATIONS page 13:

"Increase the number of students taking the HIGH SCHOOLS THAT WORKS recommended curriculum/Ohio Core each year by at least 25 percent.
"Increase the percentage of students taking college preparatory courses. Eliminate any course offerings below the college preparatory level."

JANUARY 2012 - Superintendent Gene Lolli's annual performance evaluation of Mr. Malone notes:

"Mr. Malone does demonstrate the ability to affect change, but sometimes very reluctantly. It sometimes takes numerous requests by Superintendent before changes are implemented."

Mr. Malone needs to improve on getting request goals to the Superintendent in a timely fashion. Examples include: Requested schedule of events for delayed start at the beginning of the year, at semester, and last week and have not yet received. Also requested times and dates of all staff meetings and quarterly updates on the High Schools That Work per 2011-2012 job targets.

JANUARY 2013 - Warren County Educational Service Center audit report on SHS program of studies page 10:
"SHS still offers GENERAL LEVEL CLASSES (Algebra 1A and 1B, physical science, US History, and World History). Thus, not all students experience a college preparatory curriculum. Documents provided to the Technical Assistance Visiting (TAV Team indicate that contrary to the High Schools That Works philosophy, SHS believes that offering LOW-LEVEL COURSES is in the best interest of students. This belief, however, WAS NOT SUBSTANTIATED by research or data."
2013 US NEWS ranking of high schools in Ohio ranks Kingís #23, Mason #35, Bellbrook#37, Brookville #41, Lebanon #48, Centerville #49, Waynesville #53, Monroe #90 and , and finally Springboro #97.
Given our districtís stated 40% gifted population, the fact that only 20% are on track to take A/P classes in high school, our district is severely underperforming compared to those districts around us in my opinion.
*Number of Dual College Credit Classes available when Mr. Malone
retired - 0
*Number of Dual College Credit classes added after Mr. Malone retired
June 30, 2013 - 6
Misallocation of district and taxpayer resources: 34 out of 77 elective classes at the high school had less than 20 students, more than a few had multiple classes.
IE: Childrenís Literature, 2 classes Ė 27 total students, Entrepreneurship, 2 classes Ė 20 total students, etc.
My conclusion is that Mr. Malone ran this high school like a union shop, making up classes with scant demand to ensure employment for those whose skills were not in demand. This tactic robbed resources from areas of greater need in the district. Those who suffered the most were the gifted and those in need of early intervention.

No Plunderbund About It! Children's First Budget Works!

Springboro Families and Taxpaying Homeowners can SEE the TRUTH and
BALANCE in our school district's winning agenda of Children's First Budgeting
success throughout our neighborhoods, as The Wheels on The New Buses go round and
round, SAFELY,....all over town! Thank Goodness, there will be NO more big
noisy wreckers hauling broken down school buses out of our neighborhoods,
while worried parents fear for the safety of our children-- as we did in the
past!

Thank Goodness for our children's safety and the progress made in the
last two years, putting our students SAFETY first, including a building maintenance
plan to keep the taxpayer funded facilities "mold free" and filled with air-conditioned
CLEAN air for every breath that our children and union teachers take inside our
"excellent with distinction" schools!

Thanks to our school district leaders and current board members, and SPECIAL
THANKS to our school board's budget/finance committee members, Mr. David Petroni
and Mr. Jim Rigano, for the ELEVEN new buses already purchased, and
based on the FACTS presented at board meeting, MORE new buses are coming to our Neighborhoods in the year 2014, and it's ALL DEBT FREE, already taken care of in
the state approved five year forecast, and made possible by the common sense leadership skills AND financial expertise of OUR school board members, David Petroni and Jim Rigano!

.... And we've only just begun, with our new board members, Community Business Man
Charles Anderson from the Private Sector work place, and only Two Retired Educators
Ron Malone and David Stuckey from the Union-Owned Workplace..... Let's All set aside whatever "special political interests" funded your school board campaign.... and stay the course of common sense leadership supporting the progress made in the last two years
putting our Students First while maintaining fiscal integrity, with NO NEW TAXES!

Malone launched a Vote for Revenge Advertising Campaign, beginning in March 2012, generously funded; and the "Campaign Ads" successfully pushed businessman Charles Anderson into first place! But that's all in the past as we look to 2014 and the challenges that lie ahead for our school district leaders, our BOE elected officials, our Springboro families and
Taxpaying Homeowners.

The Time has Now Come for our retired educators, Ron Malone and David Stuckey,
to put aside their "entrenched interests in the pro-union political system, putting their
political interests ahead of our school children and community best interest."

The Time has Now Come for Mr. Anderson, Mr. Malone, Mr. Stuckey to work
TOGETHER with our current board members, Mr. Rigano and Mr. Petroni and
successfully continue to work in the direction of CONFIDENCE to restore integrity and TRUST in our schools.

Springboro Families and Taxpaying Homeowners ARE optimistic that Mr. Malone
CAN rise above the True History of his failed practices as high school principal,
but ONLY if he recognizes his Weaknesses, and truly strives to utilize his
ABILITY to effect changes in his old outdated status quo "business as usual"
leadership tactics, such as trying to run OUR Board of Education like a Union
shop, just like it is proven that he run our Springboro High School; making up
classes in his program of studies, with scant demand to ENSURE EMPLOYMENT
for those school Union employees, whose skills were not in demand.

Your conclusion is flawed, or at least it is according to a MAJORITY of the voters last election.

You know what you need to teach gifted and 'in need' kids? TEACHERS and one on one at that. Unfortunately under the "chilren first" budgeting we cut some of those and others left seeing the writing on the wall. This helps explain why we have such low per-pupil spending. Children's first budgeting seems to be leaving some of the children behind.

As far as Dr. Malone, during his tenure as principal we actually INCREASED the number of AP classes (as was stated by our principal at one of the last board meetings). How is that a bad thing?

How was the $400,000 Spent by the Springboro Boosters; and Why is the

they did not have, and then come to the board room and demand that Taxpayers
pick up their bills, OR else Pay to Play fees would be increased? Why the same
old status quo business as usual "emotionally blackmailing" tactics of previous
Athletic Directors?

Now, May we take another moment to "shake the rude arrogance of name calling" out of this discussion of $400,000; and Where Is The Money?

Please understand clearly, that as a Springboro Taxpayer
I have absolutely NO fear of YOUR bullying tactics, nor your politics of personal destruction, since I am not, nor will ever be, an elected official. I do not own a community business, so
I am exempt from your boasting of "ruining my business" IF I do not conform to the
union masters/athletic director/ Boosters board officials' and mean spirited Boro Alumni's will over my personal finances.

I am fortunate enough, to be RICH enough, to pay the property taxes to live in my home in the Springboro neighborhood that I love! I did not move to this school district in order to emotionally blackmail and bully my neighbors into supporting my child's Teacher in the manner, in which our SEA demands (Or else they will walk out on our students).

Guess you could say that finally, My American Dream of Home Ownership has Come
True! All these good blessings AND the good common sense of Strongly Believing
that "Over Taxing the Taxpayers is Wrong" is my Only Motive for questioning the
leadership of our school district leaders and our BOE elected officials.

I believe that these blog "discussions" would be much more productive IF each
one tried harder to soften the "harsh tone and tenor" for S-U-R-E, that has
prevailed AGAINST Springboro Taxpayers since the first of FIVE unnecessary
New Tax Levies was rejected in 2008.

Even though most of these pro-levy loving school district leaders have left the
school district for more gainful employment ventures (with our Congratulations and

that is the ONE Common Ground that our community of school employees AND our

Come Grow With Us ..... in the direction of balance!

Our long-term goals should reflect our highest aspirations--goals that we can reach only if we stretch ourselves, do the best we can, and be the best that we can be!

Balance can be seen on scales, in sports and on spreadsheets. There are times when balance is easy to see and define. There are times when we have to work to achieve balance. For example , in our homes we try to find a perfect balance between work and family. Although we can define the ideal, we rarely meet it.

Our Springboro BOE representatives are elected to balance the interests of students, parents, taxpayers, and employees. Many school boards lack balance because they are comprised of people with more allegiance to maintaining a specific establishment than to the greater cause.

In Springboro, balance has been restored. With a new administrative team, the Springboro school district has adopted a mission to "accelerate student achievement and support qualified staff with a balanced budget." These are not empty words: they summarize actions. Together, we have achieved a balanced budget. We are on the right course, but it has not been easy.

With Educate Springboro, we brought changes that forced many to rethink long-held beliefs. Anytime the status quo changes, there is resistance. Panicked petitions and hysterical headlines have made things "feel" out of balance. Now, we have elected two retired educators as board representatives, who want to return to the failed practices of the past--which only "FELT" balanced.

However, today we can see just how far out of balance we actually were under the previous leadership. Some of the imbalances of the past include:

Capping high school class sizes in the 20s, while other grades who most need teacher attention, had larger class sizes (often up to 30).

Teaching the majority to meet only the proficient standard; while our district receives a "D" n gifted education and a "C" for our more challenged, lowest 20%.

Ignoring the changing curriculum and testing standards for students.

Charging higher pay-to-play and school fees than were necessary.

Failing to plan for technology in our classrooms and then spending resources on wireless technology that was inadequate and required replacement.

Ignoring recommendations to improve the rigor of our high school academic programs by failing to promote college credit options for our students.

Reacting to circumstances and spending more than budgeted, instead of planning to invest and keeping up our buildings, grounds and bus fleet.

Assuming the only solution was higher taxes and hoping for a NEW levy to pass.

These are symptoms of the status quo controlling a school district that lost its balance.

If there was any balance at all in the past, it was an eye for an eye. As this community said
"NO" to five new money levies, district leaders failed to find levy alternatives. The status quo threatened the community with cuts. Thankfully, many of those leaders have left;
some have retired, including Ron Malone, who has been a SHS principal for the past thirteen years; but has now made good on his March 2012 Vote for Revenge protest against our school district's fresh new ideas within the framework of our Children's First Budget reform-minded philosophy. This year's record is easy to defend because it consistently demonstrates investing in Children First. From replacing the District's aging computers, buses, to implementing new curriculum and raising expectations with new standards testing -- WE HAVE PROGRESSED.

Stay Alert Voters! While we are optimistic that retired educator, Ron Malone, has the ability as newly elected BOE member, to rise to the challenges that face our children's 21st century education; based on his True History of poor job performances in the PAST, can
we TRUST Ron Malone to do what's right for our school children and community?

You need to get with the program. The $400,000 in question wasn't "spent" by the Boosters on this district's various athletic programs. The $400,000 in question disappeared into the back pockets of Harves, and probably as well into back pockets of other former Booster representatives who didn't got caught.

$400,000 is a figure that was arrived at and agreed upon by a consortium of parties that came together to help straighten things out after this damage to the community had become obvious. This pre-determined figure of $400,000 was agreed to by the court. Because the (former) Springboro Boosters had such awful problems consistently tracking their own records and keeping accurate figures, no one will ever know the actual dollar figure.

OK, so you say I need to get with the program? Now, can you give me a "clue?"

Are you telling me the Program that I need to get with, Simply Put, is that the
Springboro Boosters got away with their own bad financial management and embezzlement
of the Students pay to play fees; AND they are continuing to do so, and that Taxpayers are now supposed to "move on" to the next round of Boosters Badgering Taxpayers to Pass a New Levy OR they will raise the Pay to Play fees, so that fewer Students get to play?
Is that the status quo program of "business as usual" Emotional Blackmail that you are talking about? Are you telling me that Anderson, Malone, and Stuckey will throw out
our common sense principles of fiscal responsibility, and force Malone's failed practices
of the PAST, down the throats of OUR STUDENTS, to the financial advantage of Greedy Adults, including Scott Maney, and our union teachers/coaches?
