I was shocked, disappointed, and deeply saddened to hear that CCFD Assistant Chris Vecchi was found guilty of ID theft! This is totally unacceptable behavior for a public safety employee, who is given the trust of Springboro families, to protect the safety of all citizens; and Mr. Vecchi should be fired.
What a second slap in the face for Springboro families to know that Mr. Vecchi was a "trusted" member of our School Board Safety Committee;
who obviously felt so empowered with his unionism job security, that he could actually steal the good name of our school board president, just to spread lies to discredit and distort her good service; promoting the November election of union school board candidate, Ron Malone!
In good conscience in efforts to restore that lost trust, Ron Malone should withdraw his name from the school board election.

People in the community should ask ourselves IF this type of union empowerment of "no way but the union way" is what we want as a board representative majority in Springboro Schools.

Fire official demoted for blog blunder
Posted: 10:59 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, DDN
An assistant fire chief in Clearcreek Twp. was demoted Tuesday as part of an agreement ending a police investigation prompted by a complaint by the local school board president about someone stealing her identity in an internet blog.
The Clearcreek Twp. trustees voted unanimously to demote Christopher Vecchi from assistant fire chief for a year in a “last chance agreement.” Vecchi agreed to use sick time and paid time off to compensate the township for his pay since being placed on paid leave on Aug. 16.
Vecchi was suspended after Kelly Kohls, president of the Springboro school board, filed a complaint with Clearcreek Twp. police on July 27 that someone had posed as her in an internet blog focused on Springboro school levy issues, according to a police report.
The blog post was made on July 27 in a discussion of the need for a school levy in Springboro. The board recently voted to seek renewal of a reduced levy for operating funds after months of heated community debate. District voters have rejected five consecutive levies for new operating funds.
Vecchi’s initial disciplinary notice stated that he was accused of identity fraud, a fifth degree felony. According to Tuesday’s agreement, township Police Chief John Terrill “has concluded his investigation and no criminal charges will be pursued.”
Vecchi’s paid leave became a suspension through Tuesday’s agreement. He must pass a fitness examination to return to work, according to the agreement.
“Any future misconduct may result in discipline, up to and including his termination,” according to the agreement.
Vecchi, named assistant chief in February 2012, joined the department in 2003.
This shocks anyone?

The booster treasurer steals untold dollars, most likely in the $1,000,000 range, and gets 90 days with work release privileges.

This gentleman in supposed to be the second in command at the Fire Department with such pitiful and corrosive judgement?

Wow is this a stretch and a blatant attempt to recast history.
As a single member on the board of education your influence is limited to what you can persuade others is important.
One out of five never carries the day.
Until the arrival of Mr. Petroni and Mr. Rigano, there was neither the will nor the desire to get to the bottom of the pay to participate scam.
With the Budget and Finance Committee the taxpayers for the first time had the opportunity to delve into the murky waters of athletic funding in this community. What was uncovered through the diligent and persistent efforts of Mr. Petroni and Mr. Rigano was the massive fraud that had been ongoing for nearly two decades.
As part of the formula for deciding how much pay to participate was going to be for each athlete, an accurate accounting of the amount of monies raised by the Boosters to support our athletic programs needed to be derived.
After five months of consistent prodding by the Budget and Finance Committee in pursuing an accounting from the group, and five months of delay and excuses on why they could or would not deliver those numbers, Mr. Harves would not have surrendered the books and himself to the police.
The larger question is where was Mr. Malone during the past 12 years he was associated with the high school as principal. Mr. Malone attended every game or event that he could. Mr. Malone enjoyed good relations with all of the players involved in the programs raising money for our children. Mr. Malone could not help but notice that our concession stands did quite well at football games, and fund raisers like casino night brought in great bundles of cash. How did Mr. Malone not notice the take was light?
Working in the concession stands as a volunteer the first time I noted that the funds were handled in a haphazard manner. No one counted them, they just stuffed them into a brown paper bag and handed them off to a principal and assistant principal. When I queried them the second time they came through about where the money was going, they replied "The Boosters." Who are the Boosters I asked, they replied they did not know any names but that was to whom they gave the money. No money, from my observation, was ever counted or recorded, it was just scooped up and sent off into the night.
For 12 years that he was principal Mr. Malone observed this program and all of its shortcomings.

Mighty hard to spin PROFICIENT as anything but FAILURE.

Who among us would see anyone as scoring 34% on a test as anything but FAILING?

Spin as you wish, the hard reality is that literally thousands of our children are not getting the quality education the tax payers have funded.

At the high school level under Mr. Malone, the High Schools That Work report from January 2013 notes "only 43% of the Springboro High School students have completed the High Schools That Work recommended curriculum (Ohio Core), a 34% DECREASE from 2008."

Not my words, but the words of the professional peers of Mr. Malone who are paid to evaluate high schools for the Warren County Educational Service Center.

I've noticed that when you talk about these numbers you fail to mention what other schools in the area look like. Are we the only ones who have this "problem"?

Also it occurs to me that from 2008 - 2013 would cover the time the current school board was in "power". Don't they have anything to do with this "failure" or are their hands clean? After all these do have to do with Ohio "core" and there are those on the board that reject the "core".

If the curriculum is the principal's responsibility then you should have been opposed to the school board trying to influence the curriculum. If the BOE has oversight of the curriculum then they should be held responsible for your said "failure". It's either one way or the other.

As far as you debating Malone, you had your chance but didn't run for BOE. It's always easier being a fan or a cheerleader than a player. Those that need to be at the debate are missing MULTIPLE opportunities to give the public an idea of the choices they have.

The question is a rather salient one:
How will a UNION CONTROLLED school board spend your TAX DOLLARS?
I suppose some folks would rather not have others exposed to such thinking, but what exactly was inaccurate about that sign?
Presiding over 12 years of looting of over $1,000,000 of the booster money while head of the high school and then fighting against necessary reforms to combat this sort of behavior in the future certainly is not many people's way of gaining trust or honor. Maybe in Mr. Malone's tiny part of the world that makes sense, but I doubt it works elsewhere.
Knowingly dumbing down the curriculum of the high school in the face of NO RESEARCH OR DATA that supports that course of action as beneficial to the students is not demonstrating either leadership nor ethics. When will Mr. Malone explain to us how not providing a more challenging educational atmosphere was good for our children and their future?

To debate Malone is a zero sum game. Think of Malone as an elephant. This particular elephant has long been a dominant figurehead of the savannah. During a debate, this elephant may choose to tell the truth, he may choose to lie or deceive, or he could be absolutely clueless. At the end of the day, this elephant can do almost nothing to harm his reputation in the public's eye because this elephant remains the insanely popular king of the Springboro high school savannah.

On the other hand, during the next 4 weeks Malone has something to lose lots of sleep over because elephants of the African savannah are absolutely terrified of ANT HILLS.

We can do little to influence other school districts except by setting the example. We have only our own district where we can successfully impact its performance and the actual amount of true learning that takes place in our classrooms.

Wasting your time chasing others to the bottom is an exercise in futility.

The latest report from the High Schools That Works covered the school year 2011 - 2012, the current school board took over in January of 2011 and immediately began pushing to add more Advanced Placement courses. Mr. Malone responded by requesting one A/P Statistics class, a current events class, and a beginning guitar class. The board to its credit approved the A/P class, denied the guitar class, and to its discredit approved the current events class.

The reports from 2007 and 2010 note the same problems in each year as we see in 2012. Mr. Malone made the conscious decision to ignore to the detriment of the children the recommendations his professional peers were making. Paramount of them was increasing the strength of the curriculum and promoting more A/P classes.

Mr. Malone enjoyed the authority and influence conferred upon in him in both the academic community and the community at large as principal of the high school. How he chose to weld that authority and influence is a demonstration of where his priorities truly lie. Sadly it seems it is not with our children's long term futures.

As a private citizen I would still enjoy the opportunity to debate the point of academic achievement of our school district and Mr. Malone's record on such matters.

Perhaps the public would like to know more about why Mr Malone knowingly promotes PROFICIENT as a standard that equates to FAILURE.

It is hard to lie when the person you are attempting to BS has a grounding in the subject. It is also hard to lie when the facts are printed by the state on its web pages for everyone to view.

It is easy to lie to willing participants in the lie, but not everyone in this community fits that bill.

The more we know....

Spread the Good News!

Now we all know that David Bitner and Kolton Vaughn are the
two school board candidates, who are fully vested in a Vison of Reform for future education, are Parents Representing Parents, putting our STUDENTS FIRST, and Staying the Course of RESPONSIBLE BUDGETING!

Why would anyone who cares about the future financial stability of our school children's education vote to re-instate control of status quo leadership that had lost its balance?

If there was any balance at all in the past, it was an eye for
an eye. As this community said "no" to five new money levies, district leaders failed to find levy alternatives. The status quo threatened the community with cuts. Thankfully, many of those leaders have left, but some now would like toreturn to sit on our school board.
NO DEBATE ABOUT IT....

This year's record is easy to defend because it consistently demonstrates investing in Children First. From replacing the districts aging computers, buses, to implementing new curriculum and raising expectations with new standards, testing --
we have progressed! Why would we give control back to those who slowed this district's progress? Those who inflated budget forecasts? Those who ignored the capital needs of the District?
Most importantly, why would we elect the same people who neglected to put Children First in our schools?

Children First Budgeting Works in the best financial/academic interest of our Students First, our quality classroom teachers
and all school employees, providing a quality education while keeping our schools both safe and affordable. Why would anyone vote against Children First?
