Mr. Malone, Where do you see the district heading?
There are a large number of unknown factors right now. The pattern at Springboro has been one of success when you look at any measurement out there. Our district has improved drastically and is among the elite districts in the state. I sense that we are going in a different direction, and the question is, "will that direction lead us to continued improvement, or will it result in a decline in performance?" Only time will tell.

I have looked at some of the other measures out there that measure things straight forwardly utilizing the metrics Mr. Malone himself did bring to bear while grading our PSEO students taking college courses.
What I found is in conflict with Mr. Malone's statement that the district has improved dramatically.
According to the math results on each Ohio Achievement Assessment for the past 4 years, we have seen a steady drumbeat of downward progression from Third Grade, where nearly 70% of the children are mastering at least 75% or better of the material, to the Eight Grade, where we find only 20% or so mastering the material.
This phenomenon recurs yearly and is clearly demonstrated year after year in the number of correct answers our children get right on the Ohio Achievement Assessment tests.
The Class of 2018 is quite representative of this trend, perhaps your child is one of the 500 plus children captured within these numbers.

In 4th grade we find
PASSING: 75% correct answers or better - 50%
FAILING: 74% correct answers or below - 50%
In 5th grade we find
PASSING: 75% correct answers or better - 35%

PASSING: 75% correct answers or better - 47%
FAILING: 74% correct answers or below - 53%
In 7th grade we find
PASSING: 75% correct answers or better - 23%
FAILING: 74% correct answers or below - 77%
Looking at our test results on the Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) test it appears as though we are trending downward, not dramatically improving as Mr. Malone cares to claim.
If this is dramatic improvement to Mr. Malone, he must have been studying these numbers with his Everyday Math book.

The HSTW reports and the WCESC reports prove to parents that Mr. Malone wasted school tax dollars by refusing to take advantage of opportunities for growth and change, once these were brought to his attention. Mr. Malone's mistakes were applauded by local, state, and national recognition, building up his reputation of being too insanely popular to be questioned of his failures in meeting the needs of his students best interest. Moving forward, parents are now asking: What good for our student's future education can come from what is learned about these past years of harmful illusions of excellent with distinction? What improvements do our current state standards offer and how can we hold local school leaders accountable? If kids aren't getting the quality education that taxpayers are so generously funding, why is the former high school principal campaigning for school board election to gain control of the children's first budget, so that the re-emphasis on the increased dollar value of the union teacher in every classroom, can be re-instated?

The type of education is the current problem. That must be solved before ways of funding it can be analyzed. In the most simplified form, teaching and the responsibility of education must shift back to the parents and away from government, particularly at the state and federal level. The collective summation of all a community’s children thrown into a big pot of stew while the parents run around doing whatever they feel like as community funded baby sitters take care of their offspring is not working. The parents get lazy because public teachers are raising their kids. Teachers get lazy at their jobs because there are no measurements of quality to keep their job. They get paid pretty much the same whether they are good or bad teachers because their collective bargaining agreement says so, an agreement that robs money from every home in a school district for a system that is a complete failure.

Inquiring minds must question the principles of the collective three school board candidates, Malone.Stuckey.Anderson, and get the message out that this threesome seek to reverse the successful direction in which our schools are headed, way beyond the November 2013 popularity contest at the polls. Inquiring minds must remember that Mr. Malone refused to "do it for the children" in March 2012 when he refused to accept a job promotion (with increased responsibilities) that would allow him to utilize his 40 years of educational expertise, to the benefit of all our students.
Mr. Malone chose the bottom line of gaining control of the Board of Education agenda by organizing Principal Ron's Kids community-wide March 2012 rally to "re-instate Ron Malone." Mr. Malone's self-interest priority, as high school principal, was to continue enjoying his popularity within the high school community. Isn't this November 2013 bid for school board election just a continuation of his good old "high school days?" And don't Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners demand much more in return for our investment in our students' quality classroom education for the 21st century?

Why would our Springboro citizens even consider voting for school board candidates,(Malone/Stuckey/And erson) who are deeply embedded in the old school training of the Ohio School Board Association indoctrination, Promoting a continuous stream of new levies; Hiring more union teachers to provide more fun classes at taxpayers' expense; and then emotionally Blackmailing parents with threats of SEA strike, if levies don't pass to increase the generous salaries and compensation/benefits package afforded our school district teachers and staff?

If Malone in fact made these mistakes knowingly, I believe it's very important for each and every district parent, voter and 18-year-old voting seniors to each have fair opportunity to separately discern Malone's current "insane" level of popularity...
vs. that of Malone's overall level of accountability during his 13 year tenure as principal of Springboro High School.

Why would our community want to go back to the past? We have sought to change the status quo, and that is difficult, but debate does not equal harm. The politically correct tenet that spirited discussion is harmful stifles new ideas. When a blanket of suppression covers the conversation, the only sure losers will be our community and the children we serve.
Educate Springboro looks to the future–using the knowledge of the past, but with direction toward a goal. While the Board of Education has made missteps in the past year and a half, they were made in a public and transparent fashion. This transparency allowed the community to engage and round out our actions to reflect their wishes and desires. It produced better, more properly vetted ideas and actions, and our schools are better for it. When we work together and talk to each other about the issues, better solutions are developed.
Our leadership is navigating us away from the repeated failures of the past and toward a better future for our schools. We are leading with a goal to provide every Springboro child the opportunity to acquire all the knowledge and intellectual skills they possibly can. It has been our desire to remove all barriers that might restrain them from their innate desire to inquire, explore, and absorb everything they can. Looking to the past, copying failed policies, and fearing change does not remove barriers to improvement, it imposes them.
We’ve built a financial foundation on the principle of fiscal responsibility. We’ll continue to make changes that make sense; for example, eliminating underutilized courses to fill needs in other areas. We won’t propose new classes just to fill an employee’s schedule and avoid a difficult decision. We won’t continue relationships with service providers that don’t provide the best value just because working with them has been past practice. We’ll continue to demand integrity and ethics from everyone we work with from boosters to vendors, from students to administrators.

And here lies the problem. Everyone wants to gripe and moan about what HAS happended and noone has any answers as to what should happen or how to fix it. It's real easy to say who not to vote for, but to say who to vote for... <crickets>
As I've stated before the only names passer's by will see is Malone, Stuckey and Anderson, so guess who they will vote for. The other "side" the silent "majority" is completely quiet with options or candidates. If they did have someone that could win, they would spend their time building them up but instead just tear the opposition down.
