What's interesting to note about his posts is that all he does is tell us why we should NOT vvote for the current board and completely avoids telling us why we SHOULD vote for Malone, Stuckey and Anderson. Not even the web site for those three has any information on the issues and/or their stances. Are we to vote for them based on popularity? Seems that is what they are relying on. Our Winning Agenda - Children's First Budget Works!

These should be happy days for everyone involved with Springboro Community City Schools – but not everyone is celebrating.
Kohls tells EAGnews some members of the local teachers union and their community supporters aren’t happy with the board’s decision to ask for a reduced levy.
“They think it’s giving back money, and you never do that,” Kohls says, adding that she speaks only for herself, not the board.
She says labor leaders want the district to tax residents at the maximum amount so its bank account is flush with cash when the next teachers’ contract is being negotiated. That way, district leaders won’t have any reason for denying the union its financial requests.
“They always want more,” Kohls says.
A national trend?
Kohls believes school districts across the U.S. could enjoy a similar turnaround, if they’d practice similar financial and leadership principles.
At the core of the board’s “children first” philosophy is the belief that school employees’ compensation – from salaried administrators to hourly support staff – should reflect the community norms.
For example, if the average resident is paying 20 percent of his or her health insurance costs and receiving a 2-3 percent annual raise, that’s what school employees should be getting, too, according to Kohls.
“I won’t agree to a labor contract unless I can look my constituents in the eye and say ‘It’s fair,’” Kohls says.
That doesn’t jibe with school employee unions that are always demanding more, and willing to use pressure tactics to get it.
That leads to Kohls’ second recommendation for other school board members who want to replicate Springboro’s success in their community: Learn the power of ‘No.’
Since most school board members receive only a small salary for their long hours and hard and often contentious work, most are unwilling to stand up to bullying union members and endure their abuse.
They end up giving in to union demands, just to make the unpleasantness stop.
But if a community is serious about fixing its school budget, Kohls says residents and board members have to “stop automatically saying ‘Yes’ to funding a system that’s not working academically or financially.”
“It doesn’t take more money,” she adds.“It takes accountability.”

There are a large number of unknown factors right now. The pattern at Springboro has been one of success when you look at any measurement out there. Our district has imporved drastically and is among the elite districts in the state. I sense that we are going in a different direction, and the question is, "will that direction lead us to continued improvement, or will it result in a decline in performance?" Only time will tell. amont

Some people get so entrenched in the old philosophy of status quo business as usual that it’s tough to get them to think whether or not something is going to help the kids.

I have looked at some of the other measures out there that measure things straight forwardly utilizing the metrics Mr. Malone himself did bring to bear while grading our PSEO students taking college courses.

What I found is in conflict with Mr. Malone's statement that the district has improved dramatically.
According to the math results on each Ohio Achievement Assessment for the past 4 years, we have seen a steady drumbeat of downward progression from Third Grade, where nearly 70% of the children are mastering at least 75% or better of the material, to the Eight Grade, where we find only 20% or so mastering the material.

This phenomenon recurs yearly and is clearly demonstrated year after year in the number of correct answers our children get right on the Ohio Achievement Assessment tests.

The Class of 2018 is quite representative of this trend, perhaps your child is one of the 500 plus children captured within these numbers.

Summary for the Class of 2018

Ohio Achievement Assessment Yearly Test Results

In 4th grade we find
PASSING: 75% correct answers or better - 50%
FAILING: 74% correct answers or below - 50%

In 5th grade we find
PASSING: 75% correct answers or better - 35%
FAILING: 74% correct answers or below - 65%

In 6th grade we find
PASSING: 75% correct answers or better - 47%
FAILING: 74% correct answers or below - 53%

In 7th grade we find
PASSING: 75% correct answers or better - 23%
FAILING: 74% correct answers or below - 77%

Looking at our test results on the Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) test it appears as though we are trending downward, not dramatically improving as Mr. Malone cares to claim.

If this is dramatic improvement to Mr. Malone, he must have been studying these numbers with his Everyday Math book.

The HSTW reports and the WCESC reports prove to parents that Mr. Malone wasted school tax dollars by refusing to take advantage of opportunities for growth and change, once these were brought to his attention. Mr. Malone's mistakes were applauded by local, state, and national recognition, building up his reputation of being too insanely popular to be questioned of his failures in meeting the needs of his students best interest. Moving forward, parents are now asking: What good for our student's future education can come from what is learned about these past years of harmful illusions of excellent with distinction? What improvements do our current state standards offer and how can we hold local school leaders accountable? If kids aren't getting the quality education that taxpayers are so generously funding, why is the former high school principal campaigning for school board election to gain control of the children's first budget, so that the re-emphasis on the increased dollar value of the union teacher in every classroom, can be re-instated?

Perhaps Springboro Families and Taxpaying homeowners should ask school board candidate, Ron Malone, to please explain why so many graduates of Springboro's Excellence with Distinction end up having to be forced to take college remedial classes, particularly in basic math functions?

Could it be -

The type of education is the current problem. That must be solved before ways of funding it can be analyzed. In the most simplified form, teaching and the responsibility of education must shift back to the parents and away from government, particularly at the state and federal level. The collective summation of all a community’s children thrown into a big pot of stew while the parents run around doing whatever they feel like as community funded baby sitters take care of their offspring is not working. The parents get lazy because public teachers are raising their kids. Teachers get lazy at their jobs because there are no measurements of quality to keep their job. They get paid pretty much the same whether they are good or bad teachers because their collective bargaining agreement says so, an agreement that robs money from every home in a school district for a system that is a complete failure.

Isn't this November 2013 bid for school board election just a continuation of his good old "high school days?" And don't Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners demand much more in return for our investment in our students' quality classroom education for the 21st century?

If Malone in fact made these mistakes knowingly, I believe it's very important for each and every district parent, voter and 18-year-old voting seniors to each have fair opportunity to separately discern Malone's current "insane" level of popularity...

Too bad our SHS principal god of knowledge failed to teach his students this great wisdom of Abe Lincoln.

Excuse me, Mr. Malone, but isn't your attempt to gain control of the Board of Education's Children's First Budget agenda in November 2013, just a re-run of your "March 2012 Re-Instate Ron Malone" failed policies keeping our kids left behind?

Those of us watching in the high school auditorium thought our high school principal a fool for leading our students to "speak out" in defiance of board authority, with their taunts "which one of you is lying."
