This sounds like a personal vendetta?

Thanks.
In the 3 years I have been with the Band Boosters, we have filed our tax returns on time. We have never been under investigation. I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about monies "collected and dispersed within the legally accepted period of time" but funds are collected and dispersed in a timely fashion. We don't leave money laying around in people's homes if that's what you're asking. We have had money handling safeguards in place for YEARS.

After recent events with the Athletic Boosters, the BOE took a closer look at our organization. Mr. Rigano and Mr. Petroni were very impressed by our record keeping.

Do either of you know Suzanne Edwards? She was at the July 31st meeting. Get your facts straight if plan on placing blame there.
Just Saying What Was Seen and Heard at the July 31st meeting.

Suzanne Edwards did not speak to the board members (on behalf of the boosters running the concession stands) during the public school board meeting on July 31; but why not?
Surely she must have seen how incompetently the treasurer represented the booster board officials.

No one on this blog is placing blame. That is the job of the officials who are investigating this case.

If I am wrong, I apologize, but Springboro Band Boosters does NOT appear on the IRS website as an eligible nonprofit.

It doesn't matter who runs the meetings, they need to be organized. I believe they had plenty of notice that Mr. Anderson was not going to show to get themselves together. Many people have been fired for being so unorganized and unprepared. She couldn't even pronounce the speakers names correctly. The heat is turned up!!!!

I have also checked the nonprofit data bases. Springboro Band Boosters does not appear.

Do you have a valid tax ID number? From the IRS?

You may have books, but do you file form 990 every year? Do you have current financial statements and bank reconciliations? Have you ever had an audit?

Yes, we have a valid tax ID number from the IRS. Our legal name is the Clearcreek Music Association.

No, the name was changed in 1995. Go to the Ohio Secretary of State website and you can see where there was a name change in 1995.

http://www2.sos.state.oh.us/reports/rwservlet...

But there is a tax ID for Clearcreek Music.
And you have been filing yearly.

http://dynamodata.fdncenter.org/990s/990searc...

I apologize. However, you need to get your name changed with the IRS, since was changed at the state level in1995.

I believe that the Springboro Band Boosters is the only organization that should be allowed to run concessions. Congratulations.

Interesting. Thanks for doing the research on that. I'll look into it. I've only lived in Springboro for 6 years so I wasn't around back then. I'll have to see what the scoop is.

I applaud the way Ms. Osterlin and Answer got to the bottom of a technical question in under an hour with no aspersions cast. I wish others would be so forthcoming. The Band Boosters (or whatever they are legally known as) appear to have their stuff and people together.

So...I assume Coach Holtrey was not retained (coaching duties that is) because of his hand in the Athletic Dept. financials? Or was it because we wanted a coach with a better post-season performance?

Actually, both are plausible.

See criteria for Athletic Director specific duties. The AD IS RESPONSIBLE For The budget, ticket sales, fundraising, etc.

On page 13 of document below.

http://www.springboro.org/files/district/cfo/...

When Mr. Holtrey was AD, did he do any of this? Is he somewhat responsible for the breakdown of the fundraising system? It appears that at least partial responsibility rests with Mr. Holtrey for his tenure as AD.

Why are the specifics of the fundraising problems not being picked up by the media? Will there be charges or arrests? Or are these just allegations?

And in a nutshell, what are they?

Suzanne Edwards did speak to the board at the July 31st meeting, as did Dale Brunner from Cook Family Fun. They were standing with the band booster treasurer during the last half of his presentation to the board, and they did partake in the discussion.

I believe all five of our Springboro schools board members, either collectively or individually, ought to be given opportunities to run concessions!

Where have you been? Under a rock? See Springboro Sun Times.

http://www.springborosun.com/2012/07/boosters...

In a nutshell, an unnamed Springboro Athletic Booster (SAB) board member tried to donate a personal check for well over $100,000 with the school. Buzzers went off, and the school finally realized that since 2005, the SAB has only made 2 donations to the school and has not filed their 990 with the IRS since 2005, which was for the 2004 year, amd that the SAB had also lost their IRS nonprofit status. This is being looked into by the Springboro Police. This is a lot of money. In 2004, the SAB reported income of over $260,000 from concessions, casino night, golf outing and fan store. 8 years X $250,000 =$2,000,000. That leaves the question:
WHERE IS THE MONEY?

On a separate, but related topic, questions were raised concerning all the fundraisers, camps and other monies collected by the coaches (all 22 sports), since they were not going through the school treasurer, and we're supposedly sponsored by the SAB. Where is all that money? Did the coaches all have illegal outside accounts, and if so, whose tax ID are they using, and why is that activity not running through the school. I think there may be an investigation going on at the school level.

Since the games will begin soon, the BOE needs a nonprofit to run the concessions, or figure out how to run it themselves. The SAB can NOT do it, since they lost their nonprofit status. The Cook Family Fund can NOT do it, since they are not established (see the incorporation documents at Ohio Secretary of State website) to serve only Springboro Schools. Their documents say that they are for the benefit of all children of Warren County.

The only booster organization legally allowed to run concessions is the band boosters.

If you check the job description of the AD, he or she is responsible for overseeing fundraising, concessions, etc.

Has anyone noticed the greater the achievements of the new board; the greater the personal attacks? Why are those who oppose the board's new philosophy of children first budgeting and fairness in our pay to play fees so "threatened" by these strong principles that they choose "flight or fight?"
We Like Kelly Kohls; and it is a proven fact that there are more supporters of her service to our school children and community, than there are members of the "close-knit" group that are working against her board policies of doing what's right for our school children and community. Thank you, Mrs.Kohls. We are standing with you and we strongly support our board's new philosophy; and the direction of your leadership for transparency in our budget and fairness in our pay to play fees.

Sorry. We don't get the "Sun." Very few people realize what is going on. If these allegations are true, hopefully specific names will be mentioned and brought to justice.

It appears that Holtrey wasn't involved but should have been more of a "hands on" person regarding fund-raising activities.
