Yes sometimes it means separating ourselves physically. God's people have always been separate and distinctive. As you can see it does literally mean to come out or separate yourselves and it is nothing new God's people have always been separate and distinctive to a point of being easily recognized by those around them.<quoted text>
CHRISTIANS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD EXAMPLES. NOT SEPARATE SO FAR THAT THEY CAN NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE WORLD. THAT IS FEAR, GOD IS NOT ABOUT FEAR. TO SEPARATE WOULD TO BE TO PUT A WALL BETWEEN. GOD MEANS TO SPIRITUALLY SEPARATE INTO YOUR PRIVATE WALK WITH HIM. TO OBEY HIM, AND WALK IN HIS WAYS. HOW CAN ONE BE A GOOD EXAMPLE IF THEY SEPARTATE SO FAR THEY HAVE NO COMMUNICATIONS WITH OTHERS IS THE WORLD. SEPARATING SPITITUALLY IS NOT MEANING TO PHYSICALY HIDE. OTHERS MUST SEE HOW GOD WORKS THROUGH YOU. IF YOU ACT LIKE A WEIRDO IN YOUR OWN LITTLE ALIENATED WORLD THAT IS WHAT YOU WILL BECOME, AND NOT A USEFUL VESSLE TO THE LORD.
2 Corinthians 6:17 Therefore, "Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you."
…16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? for you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Why come out from among them, and be you separate, said the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. 18 And will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, said the Lord Almighty.
(it could just as easily be talking about self worship here we can also make ourselves a idol. How so, by putting so much interest in ourselves and how we look to put God and his dealings with us to the side, putting worship of God in second place. That is a great spiritual weakness of this me, me, me generation we live in right now.)
Isaiah 52:11 Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing! Come out from it and be pure, you who carry the articles of the LORD's house.
Jeremiah 15:17 I never sat in the company of revelers, never made merry with them; I sat alone because your hand was on me and you had filled me with indignation.
Revelation 18:4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "'Come out of her, my people,' so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues.
Be it sufficient we should be putting God first, not ourselves, we need to be concerned with his will not our own.
