Four Springboro police cars must have been going 50 mph down on Market Street yesterday. Apparently it was for a garage fire in Clearcreek township. Way too fast for a residential area with many kids.

if we stopped charging fines for speeding tickets and started mandating community service instead - speeding tickets in springboro would decline 90% the first month.

Springboro Police Dept. needs new leadership, needs to cut personnal by at least 25% maybe even half!
They are justifing their jobs by writing a tremendous amount of traffic citations.
Springboro is a great community that deserves much better.
I heard that the Chief may be retiring soon. A great replacement would be Asst. Police Chief John DePetrio from Miami Township. John has a great department and knows how to exercise descretion (not every offense has to result in an arrest or citation)
I would also add that I too have seen SPD officers fly down main st at extremely unsafe speeds.
Yes, we want prompt response to emergencies, but not at the risk of hurting someone in the process.
Sprinboro has alot of young (immuture) officers who need to either go, or grow up.
New leadership might help.
I would also like to see SPD officers do a meet a greet with the community. Have kids shake their hands, ask questions, become more involved with the community, more approachable.
Instead we have a bunch of bitter, angry looking cops terrorizing Springboro.
Let me prove my point. Next time you see a Springboro police officer, look at his or her face, they always have this angry, everyone is committing a crime, look on their face.
Does anyone feel safer when you see a SPD police car? Or do you feel more like "Am I doing anything wrong?
Springboro is filled with good law abiding citizens, again we deserve better.
Community Policing is about being a part of the community, not chasing citizens around town looking for any reason to arrest, detain, or write tickets.
I hope we get some new leadership that turn this ship around.

"Council members have said they knew upfront that Mr. Kruithoff resigned under fire as police chief in Battle Creek, Mich., last year, involving allegations that he manipulated a police promotional exam.
However, Mr. Douthwaite told The Enquirer last month that he did not tell his bosses that Mr. Kruithoff also was sued for allegedly authorizing an illegal wiretap of a detective — a man with whose wife Mr. Kruithoff admits to having an affair"

I hear Mr Kruithoff is a very charming guy, Im sure he is, but when a guy is having an affair with his employees wife, and then wiretaps his employee... well I think the charm might be a good front.

I agree with SPD reform. Chief Kruithoff needs to go. I would LOVE to see DePetrio take the ranks.
The problem is, Kruithoff has done so much damage, it may take some time for things to be fixed...
