New High School Vice Principal - Another Reason to Vote NO

It seems we have a new Sheriff in town. Mr. Stanley Hughes was hired on July 13, 2010 by the School Board, with a two year, 220 day contract for $77,446.51. It seems that they neglected to look at a few facts:
1. Mr. Hughes has never been a vice principal, or principal, before.
2. Mr Hughes was hired to start on August 1st. Mr. Hughes did not have his Principal's License until August 23rd.
3. There was no discussion of hiring from within the District.

This is a direct violation of the SEA Union Contract which says that:
Except for an open position filled by involuntary transfer, applicants for other vacant positions will be considered in the following order:
(1) applicants seeking reassignment;
(2) displaced employees seeking voluntary transfer;
(3) employees seeking voluntary transfer; then
(4) others seeking employment with the District.

(Mr. Maney - your SEA constituents are going to call you on this one. Perhaps you should be punished along with the parents, as you suggested last year if we don't vote on the levy)

Where was the Union for this? Were the eligible teachers informed of the opening? If you are going to hire a Vice Principal with NO EXPERIENCE and NO LICENSE, why not look at internal employees.

As for the Sheriff remark - he has been overstepping his authority. Going to away football games and giving out detention for minor misbahavior? Hauling girls into the office and calling in the parents for alleged dress code infractions, that turn out to be within the limits of the dress code? And his traffic directing skills are terrible. As one parent said, "We parents have been dropping kids off for years now. We know where to drop them off. Get out of the way, Mr. Hughes."

Mr. Hughes, you need to back off. Trying to come in as the heavy will hopefully get the attention you want - but in the wrong way.

SEA - file a GRIEVANCE and let's put someone in the position who deserves it and knows our kids.

You are so right, PPP. I had to take off work to listen to this guy tell me that my daughter was "dressed inappropriately" and not "showing proper respect" to him.

My daughter WAS within the dress code. She had read it and called him on it. I guess being told he was incorrect was disrespectful.

The way to earn respect FROM others, including kids, is to show respect TO others, including kids.

Get rid of this guy before we have to put up with two years of this CR@p.

This is one of the many reasons why people are taking their children out of Springboro High School and into private schools. Vote NO on all levies and somehow get at least 4 of the BOE members to resign / or vote them out when the time comes. No leadership. It has to change. It it all about the union and teachers - students and education are no longer the priority of the BOE and Union. It is expensive to move to private schools - but after you see how the students are treated - you will know it was a good decision to leave SHS.

If I had it to do over again, I would never have bought a house in Springboro schools. It's too late now, and we probably couldn't sell in this market if we tried. If I had a do-over, I would be in Sycamore or Loveland.

And it is time for the Board to act - get rid of some of this bloated administration. Really - Dennis and Five Points only need one overpaid Principal each One Principal and one Vice Principal is all that is needed for the JH and the HS. If you need help with traffic, hire someone cheap. Why not have a part-time cook or a janitor help with traffic? Part-timers are already getting health benefits, make them work a few more hours.

These Asst Principals have huge ego issues. They think that they can treat students any way they want - and good luck to any parent that questions them. They hate "mom" or "dad" etting involved and go after your child even harder. I have personally witnessed lying by our assistant principal and know of many many other similar incidents in this district. Need complete administration change at the high school.

So, who is Hughes related to? Lolli? Both were up north at the same time - Lolli at Hudson and Hughes at Avon. Lolli sure snuck Hughes in under the radar.

if Lolli doesn't get the Superintendent job, will he get his old job back? I would much rather have him than Hughes.

Lolli cannot get his old job back as Hughes is now the new VP, so Lolli has no open job to go back to.

They will not just let him go, the board will hire him as the new Super so they don't have to make a new position for him to fill. Because if they do make a new position, or reopen an old one for him, it will be hard to explain why it's needed.

All the BOE members that hired Hughes. Even Kelly Kohls, isn't that correct? Sounds like there are certain parents that don't believe their children ever misbehave. These same parents will probably regret that method of parenting when their children are adults living in their basements unable to hold down a job while blaming everyone else for their problems. Are you seriously posting death threats on here now?

Seriously,

I think you all need to cut Mr. Hughes a break. I worked with him at Centerville and he is just like any of us, trying to do his best and make a living for himself and his family. I don't think any of us are perfect or in positions to throw stones over every decision made. He applied for a job opening and got the position. If you are irritated with Springboro's administrative ability (or inability) to properly fill a position, you should be upset with the administration. NOT with the person who accepted a job, just like ANY of you would do if you were trying to better yourself and your life for your families.

And trust me, I work in a high school and see girls "change or adjust" clothing all day. I don't know if the girl in question was dressed appropriately or not, but clearly it had to be questionable or it wouldn't be an issue. As a parent I would be MORTIFIED if someone even thought my child were dressed inappropriately. I can't believe with everything else going on in the district that slandering someone for trying to do their job is all we have to discuss!

For those of you concerned about the ethics and/ or behavior of Springboro School administrators, remember they are following a long line of unscrupulous examples. Some of those fine people just slip out of town and go to other districts. Thanks to a board of ed that made backroom "arrangements" one assistant HS principal went to another district because he was hot after a HS cheerleader. To my knowledge, he is still an administrator today. Leading by example, he allowed a band director at the time to persue the girl's sister! He went to a neghboring district, only to get busted doing the same thing to the sheriff's daughter. We could go on for days about the wonderful example set by Springboro school administrators. Parents everywhere should be glad to know that Springboro chose to take the easy route with these people, instead of reporting them to the Ohio Department of Education!

Hello! My name isn't Judith. I have been a teacher is Springboro schools for almost a decade.

One of the things I've discovered in recent years is that kids are physically growing up faster at increasingly younger ages... particularly GIRLS.

At the same time, I think it's also safe to state that the relative MENTAL MATURITY of the average college graduate isn't what it was, compared to only a generation or two ago.

I believe it's the clash between the aforementioned two factors that is the prime reason for today's increasing number of crimes involving sex between teachers / faculty & underage students.
