I hesitate to recall or remember childhood memories, or otherwise abuse or use them, or change them to fit in with a good story about what I know now. I do not remember being told by a teacher about the Kennedy assassination. Remember, at that time, with three major TV networks and newspapers and magazines, the once-dominant old media, media people could almost wait for a day before they sent it away. Teachers probably decided to leave it up to our parents to explain such an awful assassination and tragic terrible event to us, not being their job because we were not considered to be communal village children at that time. We were spreading and sharing rumors until we got home and were told and started hearing and seeing it on TV. Very few people alive at that time remembered when President William McKinley had been assassinated, in 1900? or about 63 years before. All of our baby-boomer parents had been contemporaries of JFK, young middle-aged veterans of the Great Depression and World War Two. All of our dads and adult relatives has served, one way or another. Coming from Kentucky, after the big war, Mom had gone to Frigidaire and Dad had gone to Delco Products, meeting and dating and marrying and mating in Dayton in 1948. Mom's Rowdy [no pun intended] family were hardhead Democrats who admired and loved FDR. Dad's bluegrass Berea flatland family were reliable Republicans who almost hated them. Next to their respective Baptist/Pentecostal religions, their respective political parties were in competition with their religions...which still continues in many ways today. Dad did not like the Kennedys. Mom did. I do not remember him being mean while we watched the Kennedy funeral on TV. I have to resist enhancing, romancing and improving and using my childhood memories and some-people-say sources. Not that we writers or net nuts just make stuff up. I also detest people (especially politicians) who compete in compassion and patriotism contests, or abuse and misuse Kennedy memories; likewise for creeps and peeps who are also willing to use children to promote themselves and their personal and political causes, especially the Santa Clauses. In 1963, school teachers were not substitute-parent fool teachers. We also got "whacks" and that is a fact, not daring to yell or tell our parents about it.
