Rigano was totally out of line for calling the press about adding "Guns" to the agenda of last months BOE meeting. It was an attempt to distract from the real issue, Petronis attempt to abuse and profit from his position as a BOE memeber.
Kohls is just an ass. Too many reasons to mention here.
The 3 stooges must go!
Too many bully attempts of the SEA union/community activists to demonize targeted school board members here on this blog, throughout our schools, neighborhoods, and churches. Too many bully attempts to silence these BOE elected officials whom have been targeted by the SEA union/community activists as BOE elected officials that the union has to take out.
Our SEA union/community activists' continuing efforts to attack character, falsely accusing and publicly bullying board members into union submission, are projecting a negative image of SEA teachers as being of "weak-minded" character.
It is unsettling, as a parent, to wonder if we really know the true character of our SEA teachers who are employed by school disrict taxpayers teaching in our classrooms and influencing our children. As parents and teachers well know, in the education of character, more is CAUGHT than TAUGHT.

Kohls seems quite happy preaching fiscal responsibility and belt-tightening when teachers and school staff are the ones on the receiving end of the cuts, but she doesn’t seem to quite muster up the same fervor for fiscal control in her personal life.

In 2010 Kelly and her husband were unable to keep up with the payments on their three car loans and the $829,000 in mortgages on their $450,000 house.

They declared bankruptcy that same year with total liabilities of $908,110.

Kohls blamed her financial woes on the “catastrophic financial events that has lead our country into this recession” and explained that she was unable to find another loan after her home value dropped and her “mortgager went out of business”.

Ironically, the first national Tea Party protests were sparked by comments from CNBC’s Rick Santelli who went on a live TV rant about federal government plans to help refinance bad mortgages like Kohls’. Santelli claimed the government was “promoting bad behavior” and “subsidizing losers’ mortgages”.

Given the outcome of Kohls’ poor financial decisions, it’s hard to take anything she says about personal responsibility seriously.

Still, Kohls continues to travel widely, speaking about her “successes” in starving Springboro schools of funding while putting her conservative, Tea Party stamp on the district.

Kohls and fellow school board members David Petroni and Jim Rigano have refused to put renewal levies on the ballot and they withdrew from the Ohio School Board Association, instead joining the Ohio School Boards Leadership Council, a “conservative alternative” to the OSBA that Kelly helped found.

In 2011 Kohls pushed to have creationism taught in the Springboro school

Scapegoating and bullying the Tea Party has remained a mainstay of the SEA union/community activists; what's happening now in Springboro is just the same old tired trickle down bullying and intimidation from the NEA/OEA agenda of silencing all opposition to big union labor costs, which are starving our children's future and individual student academic achievements.

Does the OEA encourage teachers to indoctrinate Ohio’s Kids?
Is the OEA monthly newsletter to teachers posted on public websites?
Do we parents know what our children are learning from teacher unionists, who believe along with the OEA, that teachers should not only be members of a labor union, but also should indoctrinate our children on unionism?

As the OEA dictates teachers in their monthly newsletter,“It’s essential that they not only be teacher unionists, but teachers of unionism. We need to create a generation of students who support teachers and the movements of teachers for their rights.”
How about they focus on just teaching our kids the core skills they will need in math, reading, writing, and science? How about they leave their political ideology and unionism out of the classroom? As the National Assessment of Educational Progress results show, more than half of America’s 8th graders fail basic civics tests. Clearly, our teachers have enough to do already.

The OEA needs to keep its left-wing views outside of the classroom and its hands off our kids’ curriculum. This type of indoctrination isn’t a surprise coming from a group with a leader who once boldly admitted it was more concerned with getting more power than the best interest of our kids.

"What people need and what they want may be very different. Teachers are those who educate the people to appreciate the things they need."
-Elbert Hubbard

Bestowing the label of excellence on districts that do little to provide for students beyond basic proficiency helps no one. Even in elite, affluent suburbs, communities are lulled into complacent acceptance of the status quo even as their children perform at a level nowhere near excellent. This phenomenon is nicely explained by Jay Greene, coauthor of
When the Best Is Mediocre:

State accountability systems and the desire to rationalize the lack of quality options have encouraged the elites to compare their affluent suburban districts to the large urban ones in their state. These inappropriate comparisons have falsely reassured them that their own school districts are doing well. This false reassurance has also perhaps undermined the desire among the elites to engage in dramatic education reform. As long as the elites hold onto the belief that their own school districts are excellent, they have little desire to push for the kinds of significant systemic reforms that might improve their districts as well as the large urban districts. They may wish the urban districts well and hope matters improve, but their taste for bold reform is limited by a false contentment with their own situation.

Radio audiences laugh at the imaginary Lake Wobegon, where ALL students are above average, but Ohio has taken things to a level that some have described as Lake Wobegon on steroids, and the damage to the educational system is becoming evident. It is Time to take an honest look at state standards and to see how these “excellent” districts are truly performing. Parents, policymakers, and the general public no longer can afford to pretend that the emperor is clothed. It is time to take a look at the ugly, naked truth about the accountability system in Ohio.– www.oagc.com

Totally agree!

As our reform minded school board majority members have stated to school district leaders, parents, voters, and taxpaying homeowners, our schools have significant academic issues to address, and this continued assualt on our school board members by the union supported political opposition to the 2011 school board election, is relentless in efforts to slow the progress being made by our board's new philosophy of children first budgeting. This assuault of politics of personal destruction against these three good people elected to do the right thing for the school children and our community, is exactly what is happpening all over this State of Ohio as school districts and unions poisition for negotiations.
We will not be fooled by tactics of union bullying, threats, and intimidation. Our children deserve better than business as usual.
Today 1 in 4 of our students that stay in State to college has to take remedial math or English.
Today our district is rated as "Effective" by the new State standars. No, we have not really earned Excellent or Excellent with Distinction last year using the NEW more rigorous State standards.
We the people did the right thing in voting for budget reform and levy alternatives; and we continue to fully support the new philosophy of our BOE majority members to put our kids first with our money.

Why are you making this false accusation against board members?

Truth is, our school superintendent stated in the minutes of his District Parent Council meeting that May is not the best time to put the renewal levy on the ballot. Check out the school website under the "parents resources."

It is true that board member Don Miller brought up for discussion during public school board meeting his thoughts on the renewal levy being put on the ballot in May; other board members public comments agreed with the school superintendent, that May is not the best time to ask voters to pass the renewal levy. There was NO motion made; and NO vote was taken.

You see, most voters know that whether the renewal levy is on the ballot in May or in November, the school will collect no taxes until the new year 2014. So, why is this even an issue, and why be so mean-spirited by falsely accusing board members Kohls, Petroni, and Rigano?

Truth is, as Springboro parents and concerned citizens we are more focused on "our children's future" and how our school district can help each one of our students reach each one's highest potential.

Our children will be the one "Who ends up paying" for the blind hypocritical Illusion of Excellence, IF we reverse to 2009 business as usual, when school district leaders and previous board members gave priority to OSBA indoctrination, putting our teachers unions demands of increased salaries and benefits first with our school tax dollars, while leaving behind leftovers for our children's classroom education, promoting continuous levies based on false school budget crisis while keeping millions of surplus dollars hidden from parents and school district voters.
It has taken five failed levies and two school board elections for us to leave behind those bad old days; thanks to our school district voters who stayed to the task electing Kelly Kohls in 2009, our first ever reform-minded, "children first budgeting" school board representative.

A helpful tutelage from the Ohio Department of Education on the scales for the results on the Math test

Limited.........0-12 points..........0-25% correct on the test
Basic..........12.5-17.5 points.......26%-36% correct on the test
PROFICIENT...18-27 points..........37.5%-56% correct on the test
Accelerated...27.5-34 points..........57%-71% correct on the test
Advanced......34.5-48 points..........72%-100% correct on the test

This is not a difficult test, take it for yourself, it is on the ODE website.

http://www.ode.state.oh.us/GD/Templates/Pages ...

Then wonder why after two years of preparation in our "college prep" high school, nearly 40% of the children taking this test score 75% or less, and still have not mastered basic math covering what should have been learned in grades 1-9. They even let a child use a calculator and provide a cheat sheet with all the necessary formulas required to answer the questions on the test.

Seriously, who wishes to defend labeling a student who has mastered less than 56% of the math material as "PROFICIENT"?

Only our high school administration team would sit in front of the cameras and present to the community 97.4% of our students taking the OGT were "PROFICIENT" and above. And then proceed to bask in the clapping and cheering from the union and the union supporters with a straight face.

While we discuss reform, let us all not forget who that reform effects the most, our children. All of them deserve more than what we are giving them now.
They may cry about getting an education today, but will thank you many years down the road in ways you cannot begin to fathom today.

Unions will be a thing of the past. Times are changing. The next election will show business owners are better qualified to run things around here. Mr. David Petroni is a skilled negotiator and a successful real estate developer. It's high time the biggest employer is the city was run by experienced business professionals. Asking a former educator to act as president is not as effective as having a successful businessman run our business. Something to think about. Mr. David Petroni is a self-made man.
Regardless of your ridicule attempts to attack character instead of the issue of reform needed to meet the needs of our children's 21st century education....

Indeed, the old outdated State collective bargaining laws have outlived their usefullness and should be a thing of the past throughout the State of Ohio. Times are changing; but the unions still bully reform minded elected officials in rallying cries to reverse to status quo doing business as usual ....Most notably, in 1983, when Ohio Democrats granted the teachers unions the RIGHT TO STRIKE against students and communities for better pay and benefits.

Our 21st century needs for our children's future MUST now REVERSE to granting our children's classroom teachers the RIGHT TO WORK, earning a fair days pay for a fair days work; with NO INCREASED TAXES paid to the Union masters.

What a joke I just saw my kids course offerings for the high school. BOE let's see you get out of this one as all social studies electives for next year were cut. All of these courses were college prep and met the requirements for NCAA clearinghouse. Can't be money because you added PE courses. Yes everyone the BOE replaced academic courses with additional PE courses. If PE is the new BOE agenda save it for your conversion school. You can make it the Springboro PE Academy. Maybe with more A's in PE GPA's will go up? BOE I know your out there (as most of you are on here posting.) BOE you have reached a new low replacing college level courses with additional PE offers. These are the same board members who talked about how more history should be taught in public schools. What a slap in the face! I'm pretty sure Oakwood, Centerville, Mason, Kings, Solon, or any other top school district in the state is not replacing academic course offerings with PE. BOE if this is your answer to raising student achievement you are the joke!!!
Your silly attempts to ridicule and bully Springboro schools
reform-minded board of education representatives is not funny; but quite harmful, projecting the status quo tunnel vision of our student achievement level already as "high as can be" under the leadership of Dr. Ron Malone.
This is nothing but false indoctrination being spewed by union activists, implying that only a great educator of 40 years experience and beloved high school principal,(who knows best how to "disciple" union youth groups into protesting community-wide for the teachers union job security) has expertise to lead our school district....
therefore, the reform minded school board president should just "step down" allowing the highly respected Dr. Ron Malone to lead the Springboro Board of Education back to the "future" of the good old days, before 2009, when board member Don Miller and the good old boys "ruled" as education gods, hunkered down inside the close knit community of the status quo union-minded kind.

As concerned parents for our children's future, we must not be taken in by Mr. Malone's "peter pan" syndrome publicly expressing that our students cannot "thrive" in their studies without Mr. Malone's daily greeting "have a nice day." It is in the best interest of all to dispel this creepy "cult-like" image of the education god that Mr. Malone appears to enjoy cultivating and exploiting for his own political aspirations; as one of Mr. Petrey's district parent council members bid best wishes to Mr. Malone in his future endeavors?

In recent public meetings and TV broadcasts to the community, Mr. Petrey has increased his praise for the wonderful work of Dr. Malone, even hinting that to replace experienced educators would take THREE younger ones that are coming out of college, fully trained with updated trends in education! Wow! is Mr. Petrey giving the nod for Mr. Malone to "take over" leadership of the Springboro Schools Board of Education and reverse our reform minded new philosophy to "business as usual" putting our Union employees FIRST?
Nothing funny there; just scary for our children's 21st centruy education!
