That $1.60 per pack/$16 a carton increase is going to be NOTHING MORE than a kiss of death for very many New York convenience store owners statewide, and will just increase the rate of convenience store heists. Not only will it cause the number of convenience store employment to drop, it will make the few that can keep their convenience store jobs face a very great danger, due to how much more valuable cigarettes will have on the black market.
Bootleggers from New York state will only heavily pounce on Virginia and West Virginia(latter for ones in the westernmost part of the state), and come back and get super rich in NY state. I hope the Senecas and other NY Indian Tribes fight the provision within the cigarette tax law that calls for the tax to be collected on Reservations, since NY state should NOT have the right to impose taxes on tribes that have their own sovereignty.
