Stadium plan needs public vote

Re 'Ramapo picks builder for baseball stadium,' June 7 article: Michael Klein, attorney for the Town of Ramapo, is quoted as saying the following: 'Our belief is that a majority of the people in town want the stadium.' These are very hard times for many who live here, struggling to pay bills and remain as residents of our town.

How can East Ramapo afford to build such a stadium when they can't even afford to keep our schools open? What a crock to say that most want the stadium. Most people here want a chance for their children, in Public Schools, to have a good education and not watch their kindergarten children go to the same school as high school students because every year another school gets closed. This stadium is insane and a total waste. This stadium is one more representation of the economic divide directed totally to give more to those that already have plenty. The groups that will be able to use this facility can afford to send their children to these extra-curricular activities. Face it, these are also the same groups of people whose schools are on the chop every year. Forgive me, but when I grew up Education came first and if we cannot afford to give all of our children equal opportunities for a good education then where is their future? Swinging bats? Well, ironically, ten years from now there may end up being a lot of that, but it won't be in your fancy stadium, it'll be on the streets.

correction: These are the same groups of people whose schools are NOT on the chop every year.

East Ramapo is a School District. The Town of Ramapo is the local government and the two have separate budgets and priorities. Suffern,Ramapo and Spring Valley High Schools are in the same Town of Ramapo but not the same School District.
Suffern is in Ramapo Central, Ramapo & Spring Valley are the East Ramapo School District.

Until you can overcome the decision to reduce services in the East Ramapo budget by electing like minded board members, expect more cuts. The problem with some board members seems to be a lack of concern for public education, because the group that voted them to the board doesn't have children in public schools. They have kids in private schools.

You have the choice of electing a school board (East Ramapo School Distict) and a Town Board plus Town Supervisor (currently Chris St Lawrence).

Now all you need to do is find 10,000-15,000 like minded people to vote in a block for candidates that represent you and your children. People who oppose your view have already figured this out.

I very much agree. Unfortunately it often takes a mountain to move such a mole hill. Especially at times like this when their community continues to build up in extremes and move in by the bus load. Everyone else in the local areas are either moving out because they are being bought out, squeezed out, have no hope left for the school district, or just plainly get sick and tired of the entire situation. The census just backed up with numbers how rapidly this community is growing. I am shocked that they can actually build these giant housing blocks on single residential properties.
Face it, I don't know all that much about government but I do know that they have already figured out how to bus people in to vote where half of the other minded people weren't even told where they were zoned to place their vote and when that vote would take place. I personally had to travel to two different schools that day.
