I do not believe this is a good idea. I had a accident saturday on Vass Road. I was following a older dodge truck for about a quarter mile doing no more then 30 in a 45 MPH zone. I put on my turn signal, began passing them. When I had just about passed them, the other vehicle turned into the rear section of my vehcile. They had to of seen me, they never had a blinker on to turn. The vechile they where in had a crack all the way across the windshield and smoked. Which means probaly not in current inspection. The first spring lake officer shows up and after looking at my vechile states it may be their fault and gets my info and a brief statement from me(about 2 Mins). I stated that I may need a tow truck. The officer says that to make sure I do need her to call the tow because she would have to do extra paperwork and did not want to waste her time if I did not need it. The first officer then calls another officer to the sceane to inspect it. The other drivers father shows up, then the other officer shows up. The 2 officers talk to the other driver and family for 15-20 mins. The 2 officers walk towards the rear damaged side of my vechile. I approch and am told they need to speak in private. I sit back in my vechile. Both officers walk back to other driver and family, speak some more. 2nd officer leaves without ever speaking with me. Shortly after the first officer calls me over to the other drivers and familys group. She states that she finds me at fault but will not issue me a ticket because it is at her discresion to do so. I stated I did not agree. I asked where and how i may pick up the police report. I was told that they do not issue those out anymore that the insurance company needs to get it and they can give me one. First officer leaves the sceane, other driver and family leave the sceane. I change my blown rear tire that had part of their front drivers side bumper in it. Since then I and my father have tried calling the police station on the 12th, 13th and 14th several times. I left a message explaining myself and asking for the police department to contact me or my father on the town hall/police department website. The rep from my insurance progressive has tried to contact the police department a few times to get the police report because it is not on the DMV database yet, where they usually get them from. I was told by my insurance rep that I should be able to get a copy of the police report despite what the officer said, because it is a matter of public record and i am on the report. I am not a trouble maker and do not know how alot of this stuff works. I do honestly beleive I was for lack of better terms screwed over in this situation. I am having my insurance company look into this, I am currently in contact with a few highway patrol and state police friends I know to see what they think. My father is also on the fence about getting a lawyer involved, due to the possible misconduct of the spring lake police.
