there are other ways to reduce traffic on M-104 as well...put on/off ramps at apple dr.{US-16} and utilize state rd. to spring lake/fruitport area, that will take some traffic from M-104...

get a bridge across the grand river on 120th ave..that would surely remove some of the traffic...

put a bridge across the grand river at 148th ave. to robbins rd. in conjunction with the 120th bridge...

there are many viable options that would be far less intrusive to local property owners and would get people off M-104 thus lowering accident rates..but until you can get across the river somewhere besides US-31,you cannot reduce the flow of traffic on M-104,period...

the majority of the traffic on M-104 is coming from grand rapids to grand haven,so it seems that maybe the back ways into grand haven need to start being utilized...but that also will be balked at..but if you want the people in grand haven, maybe they should figure out alternative routes to get them there as well...

OMG you have land on a STATE Highway and everyday you see and hear the traffic, especially in the summer. You see the accidents and the horrors of this road yet you bury your heads in the sand. do you think state highways are the only ones that have built in right of ways??this can happen to anyone,anywhere...this is about the fact that the county/state will put businesses out of business and devalue homes along M-104..as of three weeks ago when this overlay was made public, every property on M-104 became unsellable...no one is going to purchase property with a $1500.00 a running foot bill potentially attached to it...i have 82 feet of frontage, thats a $123,000 bill that goes to whomever buys it...do you want to buy it??

Always easy to say when you're not the one to have to foot the bill for it.
Its a "state Highway" we will ALL foot the bill for it.

Get off I-96 at exit 16, go south to cross the river, take Warner west to 104th north, then follow the river all the way into GH.

thats absolutely not how its written....the cost is the resposibility of the property owner once the "trigger" is met...and the triggers are selling the property, change of use, filing for a building permit, improving the property,etc....and the cost is on the property owner, not the state...

This is a needed improvement..for the area..needless to say it is a dangerous road ..especially when making a left hand turn..with the safety of our school children..riding the bus..it would help greatly for the Bus drivers..to have a wider road..the traffic is becoming heavier and when the Summer season is here..it is a needed roadway for most..widening and improvement to the road should end up being a Win..Win situation for the business'..more people would use 104 instead of by-passing it on 96...
I hope this improvement happens..
there are no busses on M-104 in the summer, which is the busiest time.and children dont cross the highway in font of the busses..so that is a mute point...and the same amount of traffic will be traveling up and down the road..this overlay does not affect the amount of traffic what so ever,it just limits access for the property owners on
M-104,but it doesnt change the habits of the through traffic, which is the main problem..it doesnt widen the road at all,it puts roads on everyones property that the property owners have to maintain out their own pocket after being forced to pay to have it built......the only people that win are grand haven and the people that drive up and down M-104 as a connector road because they wont have to pay for it...the property owners have already been cut from the "win" column...

another major problem is that this entire project has been shrouded in secrecy...the "public officials" dont want to speak to the public that put them into the positions they have...this M-104 overlay has been created over 4 years without one consultation with the public and its very obvious that the people affected the most were considered least..the planners attitudes towards the people questioning this STUPID plan for M-104 seems to be one of contemp...they seem to be saying "how dare you question us"...maybe its time for some wholesale changes in the personel making these desions that supposedly are good for the community!?!

are you nuts...nobody is burying their heads in the sand...there are no horrors, just irritations...the safety concerns on this road are from deer, weather and speeders....the property owners have nothing to do with any of those...and as far as the state using the right aways, they can use whatever they want, but they need to pay for it,not the property owners, and thats the concern...you dont seem to understand that this proposal will not remove one single car from M-104 or even slow them down...it is only designed to restrict the property owners and remove an enormous amount of cash from their bank accounts!!its not even a well thought out proposal...so pay attention, you sound like your on the planning commisions that are trying to jam this down our throats!!!!!
