Why would someone die of internal injuries in this day and age of medical knowledge

Sometimes they don't get to the hospital in time. I heard he ruptured his aorta, and therefore, would bleed to death within moments.

It's pathetically sad. I feel so sad for this family. I have an 11-year-old grandson in 5th grade, and it's just too close to home.

Awww, poor sweet child. I have cried real tears over this. It has hit so close to home for me....not that I know the family at all, just that I have my 11 year old grandson in 5th grade who loves to sled as well.

I just hope he did not suffer much, that he went to sleep and then into Jesus arms.

A terrible thing to happen to a family.

My brother died in 1958 in the Black Hills of Grand Rapids at 10 years old before I was born. Head injuries from hitting the railraod tracks at the foot of the hill. He died on Christmas day. It happened before I was born, but I saw my mother go into a deep depression every Christmas and it was hard on the rest of us.
It wouldn't have prevented this boy's internal injuries, but helmets for sledding would be a good idea. There's no way to regulate it though.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this family as there is a long road of healing ahead for them. So sad.

Sledding can be fun, but yet very dangerous too. I have heard of many kid's breaking arm's, leg's...etc. Been lucky enough to not have witnessed any of these thing's. My daughter has been on me for her to go sledding...ugh, i alway's try to distract her with something else!!

Jody, take her out to West Shore golf course. Two big hills not far from the road with no trees or anything around.

I'm sorry about your brother. I don't know how we did it, but growing up, my siblings and I went sledding all the time, including down our front yard - which had steep front yard banks. Sometimes we would go right out into the street - but none of us was ever seriously injured other than the occasional bumped head or scraped arms/legs.

You have your own personal angel watching over you now. I believe in that. My heart is still broken for the Nash family. He had his funeral and burial today (Wed).

Anyone know how this family is doing? I was so hurt by this child's death, it just hit so close to home for me. I've been thinking of them and praying for them, but sometimes feel that isn't enough.

I feel so saddened by this terrible accident to such a young boy.
The grief his family is going through, I cant imagin.
Prayers go out to them.
And may they seek the comfort of God to get through this.
