My little brother is laying in the bed in ICU... I am sorry that he made a bad decision...But am I to assume that no one has ever had a drink with dinner, or at a party or at a friends house & ever driven home... Really?
One drink does not make an alcholic...
So, before all of you pass judgement on my little brother, please take a good hard look at yourselves & your family members...
I am very sorry for your pain. I pray that you will be able to get him to accept help if he has a problem with alcohol. If not I hope your family is able to convince him not to drink and drive.

This accident, by having happened would cause one to believe that your brother has a problem with alcohol.(If alcohol effects your life in a negative way, you have a problem,,, an accident that is alcohol related should have a negative effect on his life, and those who love him.)

Well ... having survived the residual effects of Alcoholism of another person, I am going to ask just one question... Because a person has a "qualifying" disorder, alcoholism, does this give them the "right" to get behind the wheel of a car and put hundreds of other people's lives at risk?
Alcoholism is not an acceptable excuse these days... there are too many options for help to continue to use this as an excuse...
Help only works if you accept it. Many people leave the bar or wherever they drank thinking everything is just fine. There is no intention of wrecking the car or hurting someone...the thought never crosses their mind. THIS IS THE PROBLEM.

I am very aware of that... I have been watching someone very close to my family for the past 28 years drink himself into oblivion and blame the world for all of his problems... has been arrested more than twenty times for DUI/ DWLS has spent a combined amount of time equivalent to 6 years in prison... but yet he continues to drink and drive(no license, he will never get one again) He has had help, on more than one occasion... has quit drinking for brief periods of time.
He CHOOSES to booze cruise, and does this on a regular basis.(So watch out folks, he is not the only one out there; and they are becoming more and more prevalent in these days of slacking economy)

and the poor tree! It looks like he killed it. I hope he gets well soon and understands how close he came to....well...gosh, that was a really nice car too. This is one example of what happens when you take things for granted.

So he's breaking the law by driving sober.
With his given record I'm surprised someone doesn't turn him in as soon as he gets behind the wheel

Not to be mean or anything but there is a different class or group of people who just don't really care about their drinking buddies except for when they're drinking.

These virtual strangers (though sometimes blood relatives) mean something to "them" as long as everyone's drinking and partying. When one is able to break away WONDERFUL for them but the others just stay in their holes of despair.

funny you should mention trying to stop him from drinking and driving... at one point in time he beat the tar out of his then wife, choking her and nearly killing her... When he left the house police had already talked to him and determined that he was loaded yet they allowed him to get in his car and leave.(Female office in Wyoming, who by the way, is no longer with that department)

The last person who tried to stop him from drinking and driving ended up with a broken arm. People have tried repeatedly to get him to get help and stick with it... he is just one of many who believe it is their "right" to drive with or without a license, and drunk or sober..

The law failed him... they should have locked him up a long time ago for more than a minute. They only time he wants help is when he is under arrest or locked up. He has a true addiction to alcohol.
Well

huh....I didn't know all of that. So, maybe "they're" waiting for him to kill someone. If that happens, I say shoot him.

Nope, not even one sip if I am driving!!!
I have seen news of too many horrific crashes caused by drunks....and usually they walk away while the other people involved are seriously hurt or worse. I know I do not speak alone when I say thank God it was a tree and not some innnocent family that he hit!
oh yes, not even one sip. You people need to stop passing judgement, and read the facts of the story. The BAC has not even been released yet, so there could have been no alcohol left in his system at all. Take into consideration he was driving a rear wheel drive camero in the winter.. how about that? yes, totally his fault and whoever said "good thing he only took himself out" ----go to hell.

So what is wrong with driving a rear wheel drive Camaro in the winter? I drove a 1984 Camaro year round for a number of years and never so much as slid off the road. How you drive matters much more than whether it's front or rear wheel drive.
And a Camaro is no worse than any other rear wheel drive car. In fact, I have driven pickup trucks since 1991 and never been in the ditch with either one in a total of 256,000 miles between the two.
