I am very sorry to see anyone die, but I don't understand why someone would die of internal injuries in this day and age of medical knowledge. If they were treated soon after the accident

He hit a log with his belly. There are numerous organs in that area, most importantly, the aorta which is the most important artery in the body. People die all the time in car accidents of internal injuries.
My heart is so broken for this family.
