Hi, we have lived on both sides of Spring Hill, first the Maury Co side, now the Williamson. My children had some really good teachers in Maury, but undoubtedly our experience with the William co schools is much better. My kids are happier, much less bullying and we have liked almost all of their teachers they have had the last 5 years. Most of the figures that are out rate Williamson schools the highest in the state, and our experience backs that up.

Doesn't matter where your child lives or what school they attend. If there is no parent involvement and support of the teachers and the schools...you have a no win situation.

Volunteer and help the school and the teacher educate your child.

It's true...it take a village.

I live in Spring Hill on the Williamson County side....Maury County is in my back door. This was a choice I made based on that I grew up in Williamson County...and wanted to get my kids out of Metro Davidson County

If you look at the US wide ratings of schools, TN is at the bottom of the chain, so, no, Williamson County can not be that much better because ALL of the schools in TN are much worse than most of the other states. We moved here from FL and are shocked at how behind the schools are as opposed to there. That is the main reason we are moving back to FL. My child is in 1st grade here and is doing things she did in kindergarten in FL. Very sad.

I'm interested in hearing someone's take on the attitudes of the different counties toward the drugs/gangs, etc? We are thinking of relocating to Spring Hill from PA, and prefer the larger lots and lower home prices in Maury Co., but have been advised by friends to stick to Williamson because of the schools. It has been my experience with the schools here, that yes, the drugs, bullying, etc. exist in every school. However, some schools take the bull by the horns and address the problems, and some have a "no, not in OUR schools" kind of attitude. Our current district takes the latter approach, and although it looks fantastic on paper, the reality is not so rosy. We have actually pulled our son out of high school to attend an online charter school because of the bullyihg problems. This is a prestigious district with enormous monetary resources, excellent test scores, etc, but that refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem. Can anyone offer some insight into the attitues there?

Good question. Bullying is one of the top concerns I wish schools had dealt with when I was in high school.
I saw too much of it.

My kids attend SpringHill Elementary 1st and 2nd grade. It has been a great experience. I went to Williamson county school and it is no better there compared to where my kids go. The only thing I don't like is the kids at this school don't get field trips. But other than that they are close in comparison to my friends kids who are in Williamson county schools.
Drugs and gang violence were in Williamson county schools when I attended and it wasn't that long ago. I have heard that the more southern part of Maury county schools were not as good as SpringHill except for Woodard. We loved Woodard when my son attended for preschool.

They may be close at the elementary school level but there's a definite difference as the grades progress.
The statistics don't lie. Look at test scores, graduation rates,% of kids that continue their education, etc, etc, and Williamson County schools fare much better, especially the Franklin and Brentwood area High Schools.

I know I am stepping in fairly late here, but I must say... we adore Spring Hill, we are on the Williamson County side.

My Children attend CRES and the parent involvement in amazing, the PTO there is very involved and provide the children with lots of special events. I truely believe the value of your child's education is what you put into it and Chapman's is by far one of the best schools i have ever come across as far as parent involvement. My children are thriving very well, this is our 3rd year there and both of my children have had amazing teachers all the way around. I have a friend who is an assistant teacher and also has both of her children in Maury County School and she says that she enjoys being there but she is not completely pleased with her two children's situation.

Like I said you get out of it what you put in. Yes williamson county is much better off when it comes to money, we may have new technology.. I know they recently added smart boards to all the classrooms (or at least most of them) at our school and a few other things.. and the PTO raises money for playground items.. we just raised money to get some extra shade for the children.. once again, parent involvement plays a big role in what the children get out of everything.

I however was raised in Fairview..(Williamson County) and I will say my education was lacking in many aspects... I struggled when I entered college because I was NOT prepared.( I have heard that Fairview has improved greatly) So it really depends on the school, and the parents.

I don't believe there is too much difference in the schools really. I could be wrong I guess.

I dont even think that all schools in Williamson County are the same. Can you really compare Ravenwood with Page?
I have to agree with WilliamsonTeacher. Don't think that pouring dollars in a school automatically ensures that students have a good learning experience.
Many of the "Poor" schools districts in Texas are rated much higher than many "Rich" school districts.
Tough for a teacher to do his/her job effectively while dealing with troublemakers that refuse to learn and are content with disrupting the class. They should be placed in a special training environment that is equiped to handle them.
By the way; the new middle school behind the GM plant is one of the most impressive middle schools that I have ever seen. It is really unbelievable. Worth a drive to look at one of the best if not the best looking school in Maury, Williamson County and any of the Texas Middle Schools. Good job Maury County. We give you an A+ on this one.
Never liked the rust color roof on Spring Hill High School. Never understood why Maury County put Spring hill HS on the south side of the Columbia city limits sign.

Read one of the comments "ALL of the schools in TN are much worse than most of the other states". I dont agree.
Many things could happen to cause your child to repeat things learned in Florida's kindergarten.
Please tell us where you got your facts before you move your family to Florida.
Are you really returning to Fla for this reason?

A previous post also said that Williamson co schools have more technology. This is true, but it they do not spend time and money to train teachers how to use it then it is pointless. My school has alot of techology(i.e. smart boards, e-clicks and projectors), but it sits unused and colleting dust because the teacher have never been trained to use it. To me it seems williamson co buys techonolyg just so they can publicise that they have it.
First, I hope you are not an english teacher.

Second, many employers provide technology to employees. These include the items you mentioned. They don't "train" their employees to use them. They assume that a person qualified to do the job that uses that technology either knows how to use these itmes or can read instructions.

Some of the newer technology was donated to Williamson County Schools.

Your attitude that the system should train you to use every tool they provide sends an unfortunate message to students that they may carry into their careers.

I am originally from East TN. We moved to Goose Creek, SC for a year and my son attended Kindergarten there. The school he attended was WAY behind. Now we live in Spring Hill and have lived here about 4 years. My son went to Spring Hill Elementary when we moved here. We started him in Kindergarten again since the schools were so bad in SC. In Kindergarten here they teach the kids how to read and in SC they don't. Therefore, we did not want him to be behind starting first grade. My son absolutely loved Spring Hill Elementary and so did my husband and I. It was great. The teachers were great and I just loved everything about it. My son went there 3 years and now he is at Marvin Wright Elementary. It is a pretty new school so the building is nicer, but that is about it. I do not care for the school near as much as SHES. The school is much stricter and my son had a hard time adjusting. He would come home from school crying sometimes and he just did not want to go. Whereas at SHES he loved it and never once did not want to go. There is a major difference in atmosphere. I am not familiar with the Williamson County schools, but I know that SHES is a great school with great teachers. Hope this helps!
