If you are fed up with the Chapmans Retreat HOA please respond. We live in this neighborhood and totally love it accept for the HOA. We keep our house looking very nice, try and follow the rules but can’t seem for the life of us to make them happy. We see so many un kept lawns and houses….is anything happening to them as I don’t see any changes…..do the rules apply to all or just some. If anyone else out there feels this way please speak up….as I am starting to wonder if we are the only people getting all the letters.

what letters are you getting? yes, we pay too much, in my opinion, for our hoe fee.

We have gotten a letter for a car in the street which we understood it is just when you have a short driveway and 2 driving teenagers it is difficult to not to have a car on the street occasionally. We got a letter for 2 landscapping bricks that were in our driveway up by the garage for a couple of weeks, trash cans visible from the street and there are lots of those in the neighborhood, bicycle on the side of the house and now algae on the house...and we don't have algae on our house. I think that is all of them, have you gotten any letters. Our dues are pretty steep for because I don't feel like we get much for them.

Just out of curiosity would you mind telling who your HOA is managed by? I live in Port Royal Estates and I'm pretty sure we are managed by the same person. If that is the case GOOD LUCK!!

Fed Up.. sounds like you need to do a better job controlling your kids and keeping the front of your house cleaned up. Next, it will be washer and dryer and fridge in your front yard, and a still out by the air conditioner.

Springhillian you are the kind that makes people hate to bring subjects like this up. You have no idea who I am or what my house looks like. My kids are both in college and very much under control. I am just trying to find out if anyone else is unhappy and you have to go off and be so rude. No one mentioned our air conditioner as it is inside our fence. I will put the appearance of my house up against anyday!!!!

Wow, that's ridiculous. I see SOO MANY cars on the street every single day (main st Chapman's Retreat Dr)..like the same ones. I always thought they just don't enforce the stupid HOA policy, which not many follow. On my street, there are people who don't even live in our neighborhood using pool #1 around 1-2am. I've just stopped calling the police. It's a pointless thing to try & stop. I cannot wait to move to a place that isn't restricted to HOA terms. Anyway, back on topic, I feel your pain Fed Up. There just isn't much that can be done, unfortunately.

I haven't ever received a letter, but I've only lived here for around 2years though. I cannot believe we pay almost 500$/year for our HOA fee.
so depressing.

It has nothing to do with Gasser. The Board was elected 3 years ago and made new rules, with no input from the members. The started the ARC (architechtual review committee), which goes around giving tickets. Different areas of the neighborhood are covered by different ARC memebrs. One ARC member in particular is insane with the amount of tickets he writes and the things he writes them for. You're probably in his area. In my opinion, this all comes down to poor leadership. Ben Jordan is the HOA Borad president. He is behind most everything that goes on, either directly or by letting it happen. If you want change, run for a board position and get him out.

We also live in Chapman's Retreat and have received several fines for things that are(in my opinion) ridiculous. We have a driveway that is so short, our SUV barely fits lengthwise. We also have a second vehicle. Our garage is so small, a golf cart would not fit, much less a very large SUV. So, when we have out of town guests, they have no choice BUT to park on the street. By the way, we live in a cul de sac and our street is NOT a through street, so we are not impeding the "flow" of traffic in any way. Every time we get a fine, I call Gasser, and NEVER get a return phone call. So,my option is to go before the board and plead my case. Where does a car go? Suspend it from the freaking ceiling? Also, fined for having a boat on the street for 26 hours. GREAT...we were trying to clean the thing at the end of the boating season last year. The person giving these "tickets" must literally sit at my house during the night. I know who this person is on the ARB but to my dismay, I know his wife who happens to be a lovely woman and I just cannot stir up the controversy. Oh, I forgot about the satellite dish...Whole new story. Sadly, we were not even made aware that there was a HOA here when we purchased this home. We were notified by our neighbors, who had received a call from the previous owners of our home, saying they were receiving letters of non-payment from the HOA! Oh, OK...welcome to the neighborhood. Would love to get out of this neighborhood, but there are so many foreclosures, we will NEVER get out from underneath this dump. Boo on this place.

We live down near the little cemetery....is he in charge of that area? Pretty sad that Ben Jordan does not do anything about this person if he knows they write more tickets/fines than anyone else.

Maybe we should all get together and go to a HOA meeting and state our concerns!

If I were in your position, I would withold your HOA fees until they make a change. Nothing changes unless the community rises up in mass. there is power in numbers.
