Just for those of you who care, I read in the paper this morning that TDOT has made some headway on this project to put it into motion (it might actually happen soon...is all im sayin)

Yes, I was very glad to see this in the paper. Says it will take approx. 18-24 months to complete once it is started. I hope that is very soon.

The article also stated it will make I-65 between Hwy 96 and Hwy 840 Eight Lanes (4 on each side). It also mentioned having to do some extra work on the Peytonsville (Goose Creek) exit, I guess to accommodate the construction.

Who oh WHY don't they just go ahead and widen it all the way down to Saturn?

It's obvious to anyone who travels that route that the new bottleneck is just south of 840 - so widening it north of there does nothing to resolve the issue.

Just one extra lane to Saturn Parkway - where fully HALF of the commuter traffic breaks off I65 - would actually solve the issue.

Hmm, I have never thought about that but now that you mention it, the traffic going south from 840 to Saturn has picked up dramatically.

I dont drive down that way as much now, so I will be content enough with widening from exit 65 to 840. Plus, if Saturn goes out of business, there is no way the city would widen between 840 and Saturn pkway.

Uhhh... that traffic has nothing to do with Saturn - it has to do with the 80%+ residents that live in Spring Hill and work somewhere UP I65.

Saturn could close tomorrow and that traffic would not get any better.

Not only that - the city doesn't have much say in widening an interstate. They can beg and plead - but ultimately it comes down to TDOT determining an need and allocating funds.

True. It'll be a long time coming, but I cannot wait. I drive home @ 4:45 from Nashville everyday (all the way to 840). I HATE HATE HATE that bottleneck near 96 going south that time of day. Yes, mornings suck too. I've actually switched my jobt o a 4day work week, so I go in at 5:30 now. It's great to drive in that time of morning :)

I go in @7 and am heading out of town by 4 - so I'm just catching the front end of the traffic... but I know what you mean. That early - the bottleneck @ 96 is so-so, but the 840 bottleneck can be just as frustrating when it backs up there as well.

I mean - seriously... it's only like a mile, maybe 2 to go ahead and widen it to Saturn Parkway? And there's only one bridge overhead to contend with... can't they just be pro-active for a change?

It's actually 5 miles from 840 to Saturn. I have no clue what that means for $$ though. I haven't noticed as much backup at 840, the major issue is exits 65 and 61. It just gets insane. I have to tell people coming to visit to not worry, there isn't an accident or anything, you'll eventually get through. I hit at 3:30 the other day and it was already bad. Once I hit 840 though I am usually ok.
That said, spring hills southern growth is picking up both business and residential and if they are widenig anyway, they could go ahead and widen til Saturn. It will need it eventually. I would hate to relieve one problem (65,61) only to make another (58,53) either now or in a couple years.

Also remember once they complete this first stretch to Peytonsville Rd exit, they STILL have to expand the 4 lanes from there to 840. So you're looking at roughly 2015 until it's FULLY completed. Once they expand the 4 lanes to Peystonsville, you're still stuck with merging 4 lanes to 2 there. So not much will change for quite along time

I thought the whole job was to be done by 2012 not just the first phase. I bet it will be like 840 and take ten years.

The 840 delays are due to all the environmental nut jobs/tree huggers holding it up in court forever.

I agree with Dog. This highway should of been done years ago.I bet the same things going to happen with the new Spring Hill Walmart with the creeks going threw the land. The tree huggers slow down progress, send them all to California.

I see they have the center wall done, does anybody have any idea what they are doing on the sides of I65? They cut all the trees down.
