Does anyone know why there were helicopters circling the neighborhood near the library on Spring Hill Dr after midnight yesterday?? I called the Hernando County Sheriff's non-emergency number and they wouldn't give any details because it was an ongoing investigation, but said to just stay inside with my doors and windows locked. The helicopters were in the area for about an hours. When I didn't hear them anymore, I called back for an update, but the same person told me that they had not apprehended the person. I'm a single mom and felt worried to stay here, so I took my son over to my mom's house. I can't find anything online about any sort of search for a criminal, but I would think to have a helicopter out at such a late hour for so long would be something serious. Also, on the drive over to my mom's, which is east of Mariner off of Spring Hill, I saw several police vehicles near that intersection. I feel like I should have been able to get more answers and have the right to know if there is a dangerous person at large. It's 24 hours later, and I still feel a little nervous. Thanks to anyone who can offer any insight on the situation.

The Sheriff's office uses helicopter to track/find suspects who may be hiding or running. The advice you were given is good for the situation. Stay in, doors and windows locked. Doors and windows should ALWAYS be locked at night anyway.

If you want better information, go to Radio Shack and buy yourself a police scanner radio.

problem with web link is its only what they allow you to hear. The HCSO is on a trunked radio system which means there are over a dozen frequencies in use at any given time.

Sometimes helicopters are used to look for lost/ missing children or Alzheimer's patients who wonder away.

You seem overly concerned borderlining extreme paranoia, you called the sherriff and expected to get information? That seems pretty crazy, but the follow up call set it in stone.
Are you the type that hears a loud crash and turns on the TV to see if their reporting it,24 hours later still wondering why it hasent been reported?

Let's face it, the S.O. is a secret squirrel operation. If folks in this county (citrus) knew the crimes that occurred we would be terrified, so the sheriff doesn't look bad if all the crimes were not publicised. Before you posters tell me about the S.O. i was a capt in another S.O. so save the you don't understands. Thanks I Holla...

Law enforcement has been fudging the numbers for years so it all looks good on the charts.

Hey Captain Idiot, were you a road guard? Most likely you was captain of an explorer post or at a kiddie park.

Helicopters can cost over $1,000 an hour to fly. It's doubtful an operation is for fudging numbers. More likely it was for public safety demands.

look run26m, wtf is a road guard, something your mother brought home regularly? no i was a true blue fully accredited academy grad, started from the ticket mill deputy to captain on the road and admin eventually. and yes i do know what it costs to operator a helicopter as well as a fixed wing patrol. and yes too, you must have been turned down from the department so you would say something so ignorant to make you feel better about yourself, so sad!!!! that's how this captain "idiot" operates...hhhaaaaa!!!!! i holla...

road guard is a believe it or not a military term, comes from basic training when your marching here and yonder you come to an intersection the command is given "road guards out" four assigned troops go to each part of the intersection and block it so the squad can move through safely then they fall in the formation as the last row passes, more trivia :)

The poster says he was a captain with some agency, but he begins his posts with allegations of police misconduct involving a numbers conspiracy. Then he compares your department to squirrel chasers.

He states this without any factual basis. He's a coward behind a keyboard without any loyalty to the law enforcement he pretends to represent. His grammar skills remind me of some bonehead-queer who repeats; "you know, you know, you know what I'm saying".

Hey captain, blow me!

You repeat yourself often Captain Stupid. What happen to LE loyalty? It's like being in the military, you wouldn't be such a critic if you were a real cop. For sure you couldn't pass the English portion on an entrance exam, then 1st line supervisor, Lt, eventually captain. Sleeping with you pig sister didn't get you smart. Did your dick die too with dementia?

Helicopters make a lot of noise. LE knows this and will use a helicopter to alert the neighborhood that an Alzheimer patient is missing or a child wandered away. LE wants the community to look into their backyards to aid them. It's the same thing with crime scene tape. It's used to jar the memory of everyone driving by that something happen and to encourage information.

man my education really urks you, by the way it was your pig sister, i don't happen to have a sister, moron. loyalty is earned, you know nada, you little pr*ckless wonder, i was instrumental in taken two police chiefs and unchairing a sheriff for corruption. so save your comments you pos. insofar as air patrol i don't need a wanna b to enlighten me on this matter. so put on your big girl panties and turn your mom on, only as you can. my law enforcement friends and family receive all the support they have EARNED. you only make yourself smaller everytime you attack me, we all sit around and laugh so bring it...holla!
