You're kidding me, right? People that work for Glatfelter are concerned with pollution? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the litter cleanup is happening. That's undoubtedtly a good thing. However, what about the WATER being OPAQUE BROWN and REEKING solely because of what Glatfelter dumps into it?!!! Unbelievable.
I laughed when I saw Mrs. Noll hikes along the EAST branch of the Codorus. Nobody hikes the west branch, at least not downstream of Spring Grove because its a foul and polluted. I challenge anyone reading this article to look at the east branch along the Rail Trail just south of York before the west branch connects...or the west branch upstream of Spring Grove. They're both CLEAR. They stock trout there..a great indicator of high water quality. Why is the creek a brown disgusting home to only carp in the city, then? Because the paper mill dumps black waste into the west branch just downstream of Spring Grove and it connects into the pristine east branch just before York right at Indian Rock Dam. I've been there on a kayak, and its like rotten chocolate milk meeting clear water. the smell is awful even then, miles downstream. I've also seen the pipe where it comes out of Glatfelters property in Spring Grove. Black waste dumping into a clear stream. It makes me sick to know that this is allowed. Thanks for the litter cleanup effort, Glatfelter, but that's not nearly good enough.
