increase....what a surprise! Wonder how our senior citizens are going to find the extra money.
This school district has been wasting money for years, like many other districts. When is it going to stop?

All you republicans that voted for this fool of a governor are getting what you asked for...
Lets cut the system that educates our future. Sounds like a great idea that is sweeping the nation. You wonder why we are low on the scores ? Nobody in the government (or community) cares.

"District business manager George Ioannidis has already been working towards the 2012-2013 budget and said the board is exploring retirement incentives to offset expenses.
"Nearly two-thirds of the district's annual budget goes towards salaries and benefits," he said."

What???? Everyone is flipping out about how our students are getting the shaft from Corbett and look what 2/3 of the money goes to?? I expect teachers and staff to get a fair wage for their expertise and service but 2/3 of the budget?? What the heck? Now they want to raise our taxes to compensate? What is a head tax, who wants to repeal it and why?

It would be better if you knew what you were talking about. This funding issues goes way beyond Corbett. All levels of government have been spending like fools for years and now they are facing a financial crisis. No money for schools anymore. Then the school boards have been spending like crazy (Spring Grove has a new $52 million school and a $10 million sports stadium). On top of that they have been caving to the teacher's union for many years with outrageous benefits and pensions and placing this huge burden on the taxpayer's shoulders. Now the benefits and the pensions are about to reach a crisis level and the taxpayer's can't take on the burden anymore. That is not Corbett's fault. The school boards and administrations have known this is coming for a long time.

You need to come to the school board meetings and bring your entire family and all your friends and stand up and complain. Believe it or not, if enough people attend they know we are watching and have to be a little more careful. I miss very few of the meetings and take my 5 minutes of public comment time at each meeting.

Can imagine what a circle jerk that would be if everyone went to THE meeting and took up 5 minutes with some irrelevant bull#hit, just to hear themselves talk. Wait till the district builds a mosque for the converts at the most recent diversity program in the middle school! lol...will my wife be permitted to wear her burqua at the SGVFW dance this evening?

Obviously you never went to one of the meetings. Only 30 minutes is allotted for public comment. Only 5 or 6 people show up for the meetings and maybe one makes comment. Not everyone needs to speak, just fill the room with concerned citizens and it will make a difference. You would know this if you attended. They need to know that we are watching. If you don't attend once in a while to express your opinion on what they are doing, then you shouldn't complain about what they do.

Amen to SG Resident. The SG school board is touchy and they do not like to be second guessed, if tired tax payers filled the room they would start to listen. Right now, the sg board thinks no one knows. Here is good example, at the last meeting the Treasures report showed a an invoice paid of 490,816.49 dollars. This payment went to the United States Treasury, not one question? I never realized the UST sent Invoices? No school board member questioned this?(Not their money). Teachers know the sg board is trying to change requirement for graduation, they show up at the meetings in force, their jobs and their UNION is on the line. TAX PAYERS DO YOUR DUTY!!!

You dont know how good we have got it> I moved to this district from york city where my taxes were double what they are here and my house was worth about 70,000 dollars less. The schools were all falling apart, the student to teacher ratio was much worse than spring grove and their high school has a 60% graduation rate. My kids had no art, gym or music classes. Also this year york city is looking at a 6% increase plus the cutting of more teachers and programs. Could we make things better, absolutely but I will tell you things are pretty good here in comparison
