Does Douglas Meckley have a clue what to do with a computer ? What a stupid comment. "To me, this is analogous to giving a small child a sack of candy and telling them not to eat it,"
You need to retire, no wonder all the foreign countries are kicking our butts in education, this prehistoric way of thinking keep our kids down.
Will there be abuse, of course, the will be the same simpleton kids who abuse the school now, yet kids that want to get ahead are held back because of a 1 or 2 idiots.
I suppose banning markers in school who have stopped thye dumb A$$ed kids who went in the bathroom & wrote the bomb thing.
QUIT holding the good kids that want to learn...

I'm thinking this is not a great idea. Maybe if there was one designated class that would allow for these devices that would be ok. What ever happened to good old teaching. Childrean now days rely to much on texting, and electronic devices that I feel they are not capable of having conversations in real time. Just a thought.

Mr. Meckly chose a ridiculous analogy in stating "To me, this is analogous to giving a small child a sack of candy and telling them not to eat it," Meckley said. " These are not "small children" but soon-to be-adults/ students that we are preparing to move into the future, and learn to make responsible decisions. Many of them such a seniors, will be going to college the next year and will have a laptop in their possession. The more we can inforce to our high school students that life is about living by rules, the better and this is another learning opportunity.

The temptations to use/misuse technology will always be there. People need to learn to accept that there will always be temptations. These temptations will continue the rest of their life; therefore, it would be best if they learned how to deal with them now. Those who break the rules were likely rule breakers in other areas already. They have their lessons to learn also.

Let's educate the next generations as well as possible, in every way possible. Education is not what it used to be, because the world is not what it used to be. The world will continue to move ahead, whether our local public education keeps up or not! So, lets give our children all of the advantages that they deserve.

Children are our future. THEY DESERVE THE BEST.

No reason for kids to have cell phones or personal laptops in school.

I can think of no reason for a child to have a cell phone in class. Teachers have a difficult time at present educating our students without the distraction of a child using his cell phone. Most jobs require cell phones be turned off during work hours, even if a person is expecting an important call. When these students join the work place will they carry their cell phones into the job area.

For all you uneducated people making dumb comments abouts teachers holding the kids back from learning. I am really sorry you are that stupid. They must have not let you use the abacas when you went to school.

The rule change is for PERSONAL LAPTOPS and PERSONAL PHONES. The scholl had a Technology Center to work on projects, the computer lab is open to stunednts. Math and Science teachers give the kids calulators whenever then ask. The teachers support the kids.

PERSONAL LAPTOPS AND PERSONAL PHONES are used to make phone calls, listen to music, surf the web, look at pictures, got to Facebook, text people. Will any of these things help us beat China and all the outher countries kicking our butts in Math and Science?

FYI, they just suspended a kid from school for a day because he used his I-Pad to record a student yelling at another kid about a missing pen. They also suspended a girl for using her cellphone to record a fight....these kids sure are using that technology to get ahead that is about to be approved to be used in school

Oh by the way, how do you use a laptop that is in the OFF mode???

What are "stunednts"? It must be one of those words that you intellectually superior Spring Grover's aka "Stinktowners" use.

I work at a school (outside of Spring Grove) and kids are using their cell phones for pleasure - not school work. Do you know how many kids can text in their pockets and never once look at the phone?! great way for cheating.

If a kid has something on their home computer and needs to work on it at school they could always use a flashdrive instead of bring the entire laptop to school.

Heck, I am all for the cell phones in school, as long as the school has a cell phone blocker in place. Nothing is that important that education needs to be interrupted by a cell phone, at least not at the ridiculous school tax rates homeowners are paying currently!

I also forgot computers, we are paying how much for kids to use their computers instead of their brains? Don't think so. I agree, there is a reason other countries are ahead of the US, that is just 1 reason... Everything has a place and I respect that, just NOT at school.
