If these people would have ran their business like a roller rink and not a playground it might have made it longer. I have grown up at the Round Lake Roller Rink. I have taken my children there and that place never played a whole song through, they never changed the sessions as far as couple, or the natorious "black light skate", nothing. The people that sold the roller rink (the Illg family) are now running a roller rink in Fox Lake ,IL and their business is striving. The point of this comment is, we still a place to skate!!!!

I skated there when it was Artemis Roller Rink and then when the Teeters family owned it. There were very few years where things weren't productive and back then it was a great place to hang out (away from your parents ;-))

Dear John Doe,
The Illg's did not own The Round Lake Roller rink, they leased the Round Lake Roller Rink. Just as they are leasing the Roller Rink in Fox Lake you are referring to. Glad to hear it's striving but felt the need to correct you on that point.

My experiences at The Round lake Roller Rink are much different then yours. Our family enjoyed it very much and will miss it from head to toe.

During Christmas break my daughter arranged to meet a group of friends there at 1:00 for the afternoon session. How embarrassed were we when we showed up and a bunch of her friends showed up, but the management didn't show up to open at 1:00 like the website indicated. I called later that evening and the owner said they were running late and didn't open on time. Needless to say Kristoff's got our business that day.

It was a family environment. They let the kids do what they want to have fun. Moms could push kids in the strollers, kids could run around and do pretty much what they want. Debbie and Val did more for the kids that went there then anyone realizes. My kids were always up there and stayed out of trouble. They had a great time there. The Fox Lake rink has so many rules, kids cant be themselves there like they could at the R.L. rink. I know my kids miss going there already. We hope one day soon that the rink will re-open and Deb and Val will own it again.

Thank you for all of your comments. It is hard to let go of something you love with all of your heart. Although, that building holds many memories for Vall and I it was honestly the kids that made the difference. It's ALWAYS been about the kids that come to sk8 with us. It was so much more Chad and we thank you for seeing that. It was about supporting good grades, honoring those who did and working with those who didn't. It was about keeping them out of trouble. It was about respect for themselves as well as others. It was about acheiving there goals, reaching for there dreams and watching them watch it all happen. We love our Rink and all who enter it. Some may not have liked our environment and I respect that. We on the other hand loved it and maybe after reading this post you to will have a small appreciation for where our hearts are and have been all along. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. Good, bad or indifferent - you took the time to share it. God Bless! The Youngbergs.

Just to update the Illg's do own the roller rink in Fox lake they are not leasing like Brian indicates, know what your talking about before you comment brian. val is just an idiot when it comes to running a business hey why don't you walk around with the money bag in your back pocket Val, oh that's right you never left the office you sent kids to do your job. The rink in fox lake is a safe enviroment for all to enjoy and me and my family will continue to support them.

I grew up going to the Round Lake roller rink and last summer I took my kids and it was like a gang bang hangout! My kids loved the skating but it was not safe for them! That was not a safe enviroment for kids! "ha ha" was right they let the kids run that place and steal from them! Oh, and the kids that worked there didn't even have respect for their elders! Thank god they closed that place and hopefully get some better owners in there or even the old owners back... i would love for my kids to grow up with fun roller rink memories like i did!! I knew it was no time before that place was closed!! THANK GOD!!

I grew up at the "Roller Rink". We got great exercise, got to hang out with our friends, and our parents knew we were always safe.

I have so many wonderful childhood memories from the Round Lake Roller Rink. I haven't been there in more than 20 years now. My parents first met there when they were only 13 years old and later married and are still married today. My brother and I went EVERY weekend with our cousins until I was 10 years old and moved away. My cousins remained there and continued to go for many more years until they moved. We are all sad to hear of its closing.

the illgs, walter and cheryl should not be operating a business where children are involved. They are complete and total white trash. And the rink is run by wild obnoxious kids, including their own who are allowed to run wild and out of control. I would never take my kids to a business that the illgs own. Round lake would be a better place if the illgs moved out.

Don't go to the Antioch Bowling Alley it is also run by kids and totally unprofessional. It has been remodeled since a June storm and I hear the white trash manager and his wife are gone, so maybe it will be worth another look, but the last time I was there it was run by kids and the manager was a jerk so hopefully the owner wised up (hopefully new responsible adult employees to match their new remodeled bowling alley. Let me know if it has gotten any better.

I went to the Round Lake Roller Rink in the 70 and 80's when I was growing up. So very sad to see it go. I could see though, with gangs around that its sad but you do need rules and respect. Doesn't sound like its been there and when it doesn't seem safe for our kids Sorry I won't bring mine there. I hope that they can reopen it but make updates and make RULES and Stick to them. So a great place to have family fun... It sounds like new people need to reopen!

Ummm, first of all, what in the hell do you mean that the Illgs let their kids run wild and out of control? Their kids are 29, 36, and 39..(give or take a few years). SO, they are allowing their very adult kids to run wild around the rink? I think you are confused because the Illgs run the rink in Fox Lake. They did own the rink in Round Lake years ago before Deb and Val took it over.
Now, if you are referring to Debbie and Val Youngberg, the ones who did run and own the rink in Round Lake most recently as white trash, you are very mistaken. Why do you think that? Because they let kids have fun up there, run around, play games and didn't run the rink like a prison? Many of the kids got in free all the time because Deb and Val loved the kids and wanted to give them a place to hang out and feel like they could have fun.
Ugh, you know what, you aren't even worth me taking any more time out of my day.

I grew up going to the R.L roller rink in the 90's and my children enjoyed going there as well, Val and Deb tried to provide us with something that the kids could enjoy doing and that alone they need credit for. There were alot of kids there but that's what i believe it was meant for the kids....I don't recall seeing gangbangers there and if there were they never cuased problems. In my opinion this was just another thing taken from our children....

and anyways it wasnt gangs that was a problem. Once they started letting those negros in it all got messed up. evrything was better when they kept all of them locked up in teh ghettos and not in our towns.
