Who was watching this 9 year old. This should have never happened. Swimming at or near a boat ramp wrong place to swim , wake up and be a responsible parent.

Accidents happen. No one should be placing blame or pointing fingers right now. Now is the time to pray for this young girl and her family to help them through this heartbreaking time.

This was the grand daughter of a very close friend of mine, and I can guarantee they are not careless people. The family is completely devistated. God help those that have the audicity to assume it was carelessness that caused this to happen to a beautiful, funny, too young little girl.

I bet parents where in the bar and the girl probly fell off the pier and into the water. Boat ramp was made up to help cover up the negligence.

Just like the family shouldn't be suing the ramp owner and whomever else they are trying to steal money from for such a tragic ACCIDENT????!!!!

How do you know they are suing ? How can they even sue for thier own negligence ? So the owner of the bar responsible for parent not watching a child in or at the waters edge ? there has been "no swimming no fishing" signs posted there for the last 15 years.

I heard the bar that is responsible for ramp is being sued. The bar has since closed the ramp because of lawsuit

Legally, they can be held liable for an "attractive nuisance" when a child is harmed. Totally agree, it's bullshit, and IL needs tort reform badly. It truly sucks, since it sounds like the parents were the ones that were negligent and are trying to profit from the death of their child.

That's sucks. it's bad enouph a child died but to seek money against someone who had no resposability is just horrible. Ramp is not closed. a gate and lock was installed after this incident. But that's only gonna stop trucks/boats. Not unsupervised children.

Ramp was closed as of last year. That was per owner of the bar. Maybe he changed his mind, but that was his decision last year and it was because of the liability issue. Agree, it's absolute BS with sue happy america nowadays. Today's opinion of many even when somebody's act is completely reckless is there is somebody else to blame. People do not take any responsibility for their own actions!!

I used ramp the following weekend and many times after. The pier is 100 times more dangerous than the ramp. it's a 5' fall to the water. I've brought my son on it many times and I won't let him out of arms reach knowing i would have to jump in to reach him.
