Are police at war with American citizens? Why when one of them shoot a citizen, they are given a paid vacation? I believe the shooter should be made to live without a weapon until the shooting is investigated and should be given a desk job until then. NOT REWARDED!

Yep, because being charged with a felony and having to worry about losing your job makes for a great vacation.

Employee's are allowed to use their vacation, he wasn't fired. The deputy is assigned to desk duty. Remember, innocent 'til guilty? Well, Copp has now been charged for delivery too. What freedoms shall we take from him til the court process?

On March 11th, 2009, GVSU Student Derek Copp was unjustifiably shot in the chest in a marijuana raid on his apartment. Derek was unarmed, studying, when the officers came through his open back door. They shinned a light in his face, he guarded his eyes and was shot in the chest from a range of a foot and a half. Derek suffered severe injuries including broken ribs, a pierced lung which filled with blood, and a damaged liver. He has survived the attempted execution and is now recovering at home. His apartment was raided due to an investigation involving Derek selling a small amount of marijuana to a undercover officer. We believe the tactics used involving the raid are partly at fault for creating this event. Derek faces a felony marijuana charge for distribution, which carries up to four years in prison.(He wasn't charged until after supporters for Huizenga came out and decided to rally) The Police Officer involved, Deputy Ryan Huizenga is charged with Careless Discharge of a Firearm, but is currently back at work performing administrative duties. He has not yet been convicted of any crime. An investigation by the State Police has shown that Officer Huizenga went to the back door of the apartment with his finger on the trigger instead of the trigger guard which was a crucial mistake. He also made a lethal shot to the chest rather then the leg or arm. We believe the shot was not necessary in the first place. Officer Huizenga is facing two years in jail, but we are concerned because we do not want him to end up in a similar position where he is holding a firearm. To ensure that what’s right is carried out here we must stand together, unified, to tell the community what we think and feel about these events which strike us as WRONG!!! Last time I checked you are innocent until proven guilty. Why do you people focus on the few incidents where the police make mistakes, but when they are keeping you safe 99.9% of the time you never say anything.

The story I read was that he shot a citizen, who had sold illegal substances to an undercover officer, during a planned drug bust. Dealing drugs is risky business…..so is kicking down doors to apprehend suspected drug dealers.

Just please don't waste my tax dollars and call for help the next time you are in trouble. You fail to see that those police will come to your aid despite your hatred of them.

We should change our silly laws. Why is this plant illegal? Because we made it illegal. There is no other reason. We can make it legal too. You folks who defend this insane law, as well as defend this insane officer, are nothing more than the American Taliban. You should all be deported to the Middle East where you can all live among your insane friends.
