I am Nans little sister, Lorie. I saw this page a couple years ago & I only made it through the first page. Tonight, I decided to revisit it. Not sure why, probably due to the senseless tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary today. It is so nice to see that people still remember Nan & think about her. Long lost cousins, Bridgette & Marty, Step Cousins Kandi & Amy. Also seeing old friends. Char & Val F. it brings back memories reading your posts. Thanks for all the love and support from all of you.

I am living in Seattle now, close to Dad. He keeps track of Mahrt & tells me what he feels I need to know. We all know he will never have the chance to hurt another innocent child.

Mom passed away December 18, 1998 due to complications of diabetes. Her wish was to be with Nan after her passing. I made that happen. I know they are together now & I am beginning to learn not to spend my life grieving, but celebrating their lives. Yes, I am a slow learner :-)

Again, thanks for keeping Nan alive in your thoughts. For those of you speaking of what you know nothing about, please stop. You have me & our father, mine and Nans, a bit upset. I am not a bitch. I am an adult who made a choice based on what you know nothing about. All of you claiming to be relatives, can you please use your name instead of alias? Stand behind your words. Thank you.

There was a tree, planted in Nanettes honor, at the(previous site of Loma Vista school.)(I attended Salk Jr. High 73-75) I will always remember her as a shy sweet girl. Bless her and her family.

Interesting thread.

To the non relative claiming to be a relative, calling Lorie a bitch, it sounds like you are the bitch.

Don't make judgments about things you know nothing about.

Me and my sister Jackie were same age, we lived at 724 w Spofford across the street from Nannettes home. She was my sister and my friend for couple years. My friend Perry Archer found the bags her body was in by the present site of Spokane Community College on Greene street by bridge. Rest in peace
I'm sorry to disappoint you but, you have your facts VERY wrong. Nan was found by Detective Robert Bailor, on Euclid Road, west of Spokane. No where near the Greene St Bridge. If you have any further questions, my dad would be more than happy to set you straight.

I have a friend that lived in Spokane Wa in 1971 and him and his family lived with another family. He was 8 years old at the time and there oldest daughter was 12 and him and her went to a park and there was a indian police officer at the park, he told him (my friend) to go home and he was gonna talk to the girl,my friend ran home and told his father and his parents and her parents went to the park and found the little girl dead, she'd been strangles with here own bra, my friend was not there at that time his parents made him wait at home. but we can not find any info on the little girl because he doesn't remember her name, they moved away right after this happened. but he heard years later that when DNA was available that they caught the cop and he was put in prison. Just wondering if anyone lived there in 1971 that would remeber about a little girl murdered in a park.

Wow, so you are still in the neighborhood?

Yes, you have to focus on the good memories, otherwise, he wins. That's not gonna happen! So nice to see you remembering Nan.:-)

This case has stuck in my mind, and now I have found myself here. I work where Mahrt is located in a medium security unit. While no consolation for the loss of an innocent life, I can verify that he is now a pathetic old man withering away and he will never have the chance to hurt another child again. He is a meek creature without friends or protection and he huddles himself with the few others like him, always looking over their shoulders. People like him make it easy to lose faith in humanity. I am very sorry for all the pain he brought to the world. One person can effect the web of so many...

Thank you Fly! It does not bring Nan back or change what that POS did to her, but there is some comfort in knowing this. Interesting to know he is in Medium Security. This is in Aberdeen, correct? Thank you for the work you do.

I lived in Spokane area and left in spring of 1976. I remember prior to leaving, a young female newspaper carrier was murdered and her body found in garbage sacks.(May or June 1976) I never heard if this case was resolved. Was this crime related to any other murders and were books or articles published in regard to this event? I've been away over 30 years and heve been curious about the outcome of the case. Thank you.
I am her cousin and yes he was caught and sentenced to 2 life sentences. His name is Thomas J. Mohart. She was killed just before her 14th birthday. What is bad is he had a 5 year old son, too.

I was 12 years old and living on the south hill of Spokane when this happened. My view of the world changed forever that day - I agree with the person above who said any child living in Spokane at that time lost their sense of safety and innocence. My heart goes out to all of Nanette's family and friends and I wish for their peace.

The P.O.S. that took her life has not had to pay the same price although he is still behind bars. There is always hope.
I wish there was a way to make things like this to never happen again, I wish there was a way to repair the past, life, good and not so, must go on.
Love to Nannette and her family

I would never want to add to the pain that your family has suffered. I have some strange information that involves a man that I dated who had personal files of Marty Martin which have always troubled me. There was a newspaper clipping about Nanette. I do not know why he had this.

Nan and Lorie are my cousins. Nan and I were about the same age when this evil tragedy came crashing down upon our family. I cried...and felt terrible fear the day that I found out that my cousin was murdered...I feel the same exact way today...many years later. A family does not truly recover from something this dark and tragic. My entire extended family suffered that day...and we have suffered ever since. I am literally unable to read through the posts on this site...the memory is more alive, down inside of me, than I realized. My heart aches, and breaks for Nan's living immediate family...especially for my cousin Lorie, and my Uncle. I am thankful for the positive loving memories that have been posted. For those who pretend to know...stop...you only inflict more pain to a hurting family. For those of you who have anything negative to say...shame on you, and please go elsewhere. Have some respect for those left behind to grieve the loss of a beautiful human being...a member of our family.
