Granted, I have no love lost for State Troopers, but I do respect them. Sure, I am sad for the family of the killed lady, but blue lights and siren? Come on, give the guy a break! Here is a man putting his life on the line to make our highways safer and all he gets is crucified. My prayers are with the ladies family and the Trooper!

If it was an unmarked car, as reported, she may not have realized it was a Highway Patrol.

This is a terrible accident. My prayers are with the lady and her family.

The article doesn't say much concerning the accident--4 lane? 2-lane? Daytime/nightime?
A little Escort doesn't have much of a chance against a bigger car, no matter what the situation.

David, common sense would dictate that a cop would have to travel faster than the violator in order to catch him! Where did it say he was going 110MPH?
lokel, where did it say anything about the situation being a high speed chase?
mic9852, sure it was unmarked but maybe the lights and siren would have been a slight clue, as reported.

Come on people!

I just feel terrible for this cop and for the woman's family & friends. I admit a bit of frustration that people are blaming the cop. He was doing his job and I assume the woman was simply not paying attention and sadly died but not due to a careless cop. The poor cop must already be very upset about this incident, and does not need a bunch of faceless forum users making him feel any worse. Instead of attacking a man I think this experience should encourage us all to be more vigilant on the raod.

I'm going to wait for the investigation results. If all we know is that which is reported in the paper, we know nothing, really.

Very sad this happened, but if she drives like any other 70+ year old driver I can understand more this happening. I am a firm believer that after a certain age the elderly need to retake the entire driving test, written and driving. Some of the elderly tend to not pay attention as much, or cant see as well

Come on people!
The car he u-turned to follow, was speeding... common sense would indicate that he would have to exceed the posted speed to catch a speeder!

If he wasn't speeding yet, he certainly was increasing his speed in order to catch up with the alleged speeder.

I have never heard of a police car slowing down in an attempt to issue a speeding citation.

So Lokel, how are the police supposed to enforce traffic laws if you are against them speeding to catch up to violators?

You hate the police. It is evident in every single one of your posts.

And where again was this "high sped chase". He was not pursuing someone, he was simply attempting to overtake a speeder.

Damn, is there some part of lights and siren that some of you people don't understand? Unmarked or not, lights and siren should be a giveaway as to what kind of vehicle it is. You must yeild!

No matter what, the same persons who jump on every situation are involved in this forum, with just a little change of heart. Funny one quote from above states "the poor cop must already be very upset about this incident, and does not need a bunch of faceless forum users making him feel any worse"; yet when the same thing happens in Old Fort and an officer kills a child that cop was fair game for any and everyones crappy comments.

As for speed, we'll probably never know due to the state probably wanting to keep it covered up, but I can assure you the witnesses were really quickly reported to having seen the blue lights and hearing the siren. Guess as long as they're on they can go as fast as they want and run over people within the city limits or anywhere else.

We really live in a mixed up and convoluted day.
