i'm trying gather information about the old hollis school that was allegedly burned to the ground. apparently there is an old abandoned church that still stands behind it. i've searched for information and articles but have been unable to find any whatsoever.

It is the Hollis Methodist Church (am not sure it was later part of the United Methodist Church). It is a stone building with the sanctuary running from front to back with side wings, giving the church a shape like a cross. A brick entrance-way and steeple were added over the years. I believe a well-known Methodist minister had ancestors in that church (surname Swofford?.)

I just left the Hollis church.. It is still standing and it is open once a year. There are about 9 to 10 graves. The church is bolted behind a big black thing that look like jail cells and has a dead bolt lock on it. When you git there they dont want you to leave. Everyone that i know that has been there has lost something or has been messed with. It scary. NEVER go alone!! Go with a group of people. Pray before and after you got there.

nothing scary about the church or the ruins of the school , the new brick part of the church looks like any other church front. there are added bathrooms in the back and an old outhouse at the edge of the woods. the stone school ruins are beautiful and there is a machu pichu type pyramid in the back, my husband says he thinks its where the school bell once was.

It is my family's church. It is not scary - we have a Hollis reunion there every year. My grandfather took care of the church when he was alive and now my uncle cares for it. It is very important to our family and other families of Hollis. It is a Methodist church. The steel bars were put on there because people kept breaking in and vandalizing the church. The original church at this site burned down decades ago and the Hollis community, including my grandfather, rebuilt it. There were several Methodist ministers in my family and this church was always the center of our family reunions. My mother and her siblings attended school at the building next door. When I was growing up the school was in tact, though not in use for many years, and my cousins and I would go in - we actually found one of my aunts school records in the old office. My mother actually purchased the bell from the old school.

Grew up in that area, have been to the Methodist Church as a child. Still walk back to the church and gravesites on occasion when we are back visiting. Never harmed, never afraid and never experienced any thing you have spoken of. The doors and windows are bolted and barred to keep the no good thieves out, those who would steal from the church.

Hollis school was just featured on WLOS. The Swofford Methodist Church is right behind it. It is a beautiful rock built building that has an ancient reverend feeling. Neither the school or the church were/are haunted. Just creepy at night which is great to scare your friends when looking for somewhere to hang out. This was a destination for years for local "kids" to come at night.

The brick Hollis Elementary School burned in the summer of 1955. Classes then began in the rock
building that was formerly the Hollis High School. My grandmother was a member of the Methodist Church behind the rock building I have her Hymnal she used to take to services.

the gym is still standing it is beside the burnt down school, I've ben inside the gym an there is a truck inside an no big doors to drive the truck inside lol. I've ben inside the church also, it does have a gate before you get to the main door with a big padlock, my friends cut the lock an we went inside it looked like a reg church with a pulpit an pews. All the windows were borded up an it was spooky as hell. I've heard people say devil worshippers go there every Halloween an worship Satan there an sacrifice animals nearby.

The old school you are talking about closed, I believe in the 60s. It was a beautiful school, made of stone. My dad used to take us there when I was a kid. The desks, blackboards and everything were still there as if school had just closed. I do remember my dad, RIP, telling me it burned. I doubt very much you still care. I didn't check the year this was posted.
