This is the tip of the iceberg. This is just one person that made it to the headlines. There are many others that never even got a slap on the wrist for the exact same acts...yes, even when a death was involved. There is so much going on in nursing homes around here. I hear first hand accounts all the time. Bureaucracy, neglect, theft, assault, apathy, drug use, intimidation...it's all across the board and none of these nursing homes are immune, no matter how much you pay. Come on nurses, speak up!

Significant number of nursing homes takes greed as priority, caring more about the profits that they’ll make, they care less about the health of their residents. They are also found understaffed forcing few numbers of nurses and caregivers to work 24/7, and if the staff refuses to make her shift, she will be fired and her license will be revoked because of abandonment. All in all, it is the nursing home that creates these neglectful nurses because of staff mistreatment, it’s a chain event. Nursing homes mistreating staff will result on staff mistreating and neglecting nursing homes residents.

You are correct here. I am surprised that there aren't any nurses speaking up here on this forum. The state has imposed many regulations and procedures on the nurses such as charting and things that just take to much time that nurses don't have any time to actually "care" for a patient. My source was constantly claiming that there is no personal accountability and that if everything was done by the book then there would be no time to do your job to completion. My source says that supervisors never back you up or provide you with resources but threaten your license at every step of the way. It is not physically possible to do everything by the book without bending some rules. My source had to quit nursing homes because the risk of losing the nursing license was inevitable.

Nurses were getting high on the job and neglecting patients by not performing critical routine tasks. My source approached a black supervisor regarding a black employee that was stealing meds and neglecting patients and the supervisor told my source "You better watch her back" and the supervisor actually said to her "We need to replace you with 'darker' employees" and then my source was threatened by several other black employees. She then went to that supervisors supervisor and she was told that that they were aware of the black employees theft and negligent behavior but they cannot fire her because of her color. This racist scenario played out in several nursing homes. Intimidation, coercion, direct threats, you might as well put your loved ones in Attica. At least you know where they stand right from the get go.

I was recently charged with mistreatment because I held a residents hand because he attempted to hit me with a hand full of Feces ... The administration called it "restraining the resident" ,and thats considered abuse..Not to mention he was positive for hepatitis c... Maybe all you "debbie do gooders" should keep your crazed loved ones at home and stop your bitching or let us do our job ...
