With a crime rate of 63 per one thousand residents, Rochester has one of the highest crime rates i
n America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. Only 4% of US cities have a crime rate bigger than Rochester.

The big question is, what is this costing the system? Police, courts and trauma surgeons don't come cheaply.

Very conservatively, if every shooting costs $20,000 in medical, administrative and legal costs... this is adding up to big money being wasted on sheer stupidity. The shooter (and their family) should be burdened with all costs.

Turns out it was a 22-year-old Irondequoit man.

I wonder what he was into being over there???

Maybe if the question is about cost, maybe the town of Irondequoit should be paying the bill for the city??
you never get it

I believe that one study said it cost between $125k t0 $150k for everything including hospital, doctors, CSI, police. For the perp the cost of jail and the court system is not added to the costs of the victim.

So...$125,000.00 x 69 shootings is $8,625,000. And the perps are not paying one dime of that wasted money.

Do we need a line item in the city budget for shootings? If we reached 200 by the end of the year (using your numbers) that's $25,000,000 in expenditures.

No wonder there is no control by RPD. Generates a ton of overtime pay. Add that to the final cost.
