The Man, then tell me why Nevada was the second highest State for Crime per capita according to the latest FBI statistics, humm?

I thought it was Detroit, Chicago, Camden NJ, LA and The City of Rochester. Las Vegas does not even come close to the rest for shootings and murders.

What about the Lovely Hotel and Casino downtown? She wants jobs. Lots of talk and no action. A blow hard. A casino will get blacks in jobs.

A casino downtown would devastate the black community. The house always wins -- and the patrons get poorer. They don't put up a building to loose money (and they never do). It's a horrible idea, and would spike crime.

According to the 2010 State Crime Rankings by CQ Press, Nevada has the highest crime rate in the United States.

The state with the highest ranking crime rate for the past 6 years is Nevada. It also rates number 1 for motor vehicle theft and robbery in the country. In a close second to Nevada is Louisiana, ranking number 1 in the country for murder.

2. Nevada
• Violent crimes per 100,000: 607.6
• Poverty rate: 16.4%
• Pct. of population with bachelor’s degree or higher: 22.4%
• Property crimes per 100,000: 2,809.4 (23rd highest)
Nevada ranks among the worst in the country for its robbery rate, motor-vehicle theft rate and aggravated assault rate. It also ranks high in categories like burglaries and forcible rape. Much of the crime, state officials maintain, comes from the swarms of tourists who visit Las Vegas, Reno and other cities with casinos and related entertainment. Factor out the casino traffic in Reno, and local crime rates are similar to the rest of the nation, Emmanuel Barthe, a criminal justice professor at the University of Nevada Reno, told the Reno Gazette-Journal. Nevada also has among the lowest high school and college graduation rates.

No State Taxes, no SAFE ACT. Great weather, legal prostitution, no toll roads and no high gas taxes. Nevada is better than this stink state. As for a casino if its not built in Henrietta it will be built someplace else close. They will build one. Farmington and Batavia are now getting all the money from Monroe County. Monroe county is loosing. Many of the people in these casinos are old. Its there day out. No crime.

It will attract the thug players in Henrietta or downtown. Would you really want a casino near your home? A casino is the last thing we need in Rochester. The Indians get rich on the backs of people that can't afford to loose the money. And they won't care at all.

Mark: Thanks for the debate. I was on the ecumenical church board in Maine against the casinos. Maine blocked it especially at Old Orchard Beach. You should know that while the attendance might be tourists, the support comes from problem gamblers somewhere in the neighborhood of 2/3 to 3/4 of casino income. And guess who pays for those problems, addicted gamblers create, THE TAXPAYERS.
To your thread,(if Rochester doesn't another town will): Casinos suck money out of a community. They create their own environment ie casino parking lots, hotels, restaurants, entertainment which other businesses can't compete. because people stay in the casino complex. The profits from Casinos go to out of state gambling conglomerates, The profits would not stay in Farmington or Batavia. And the property assessments go up hugely around the casino. CASINOS ARE A BAD IDEA.

Why should they? Those people make their own beds to sleep in. They get rich off of people doing what they want to. Stone cold truth.

Could you name one casino that has crime? How is it anyone else's business or yours on how people spend their money?

What are "thug players"?
Are these "thug players" cause problems in Buffalo, Niagara Falls or Turning?

Isn't it ironic that the Seneca's have to buy back land that was stolen from them by your ancestors and you have the nerve to complain about it.
