To me..unless you are talking about maybe San Diego..all these southern "hotspots" have just as many if not more weather problems than Rochester. Sure winters are "nice".but summers tend to be unbearable with all the heat..storms....possible huricanes...dewpoints in the 70s. Nasty bugs and critters...I can' argue about the beach because Lake Ontario beaches are smelly and disgusting.
Once the weather hits 50 up here.I'm good to go until November.

Rochester is a great city you just have to be open to all it has to offer. Sure we have problems as do other Northern cities in the rust belt but we have so much to offer.
While our friends in the south always want to talk about the weather do you really want to live in 100 degree heat for July and August. Spring time here is a breath of fresh air and just think how nice it will be here as soon as this winter weather lets go.
Our summers are packed with festivals, concerts, and 80 degree days !
Live in a nice area of the city or in most of the suburbs and life here is hard to beat as long as you have a job that pays a decent living wage.
I have been in the south and the people there are a step behind most people in NY. Just go to any grocery store and compare the cash register folks to those at wegmans and you will see for yourself.
Liberal commie Bill,
First I'd like to say is people in the south aren't your friend.......they hate the sight of communist liberal Yankees ....and would gladly beat the crap out of you.
Second ....they have concerts in the south .....yr around. Average temp is 82 in south fl in July and August.
Third ..... The burbs in Rottenchester are going down fast....thru taxation without representation for social and corporate welfare. Nice area in the city ?.... Where ?
Jobs ....what jobs ?
Grocery stores in the south are much nicer than Wegmans and cheaper too.
And if you think people in Rottenchester are better educated than the south ....dream on. Rottenchester can't educate it's people......look around.
Again .... I would love to see you open your eyes and look at what liberals done to NY...... Perhaps a nice walk down brown street......bring your gun....you'll need it. Oh that's right ....Cuomo took your gun. Oh well.

I'm sorry, but Wegmans outclasses any supermarket in the south. I've been to Publix and Piggley Wiggleys and I'm not impressed. Yes, Rochester is far from the best place to live, but its far from the worse. Rochester is still miles ahead of Buffalo and Syracuse from an economic and job perspective. We are much better from a culture standpoint as well. We have some of the best restaurants and home to some great eateries. There's no place I rather be than rochester. Rochester doesn't deserve to be kicked to the ground especially from former residents. If it weren't for rochester, you former residents wouldn't be where you are now. There's more good than bad here, I can assure you. Stop being so damn spiteful, and appreciate where you came from! It's good you're in a better situation now, but we should not take that for granted!

I though women were the only sex that opened thoughts with an apology.

I can tell you supermarkets didn't enter into a decision to leave. As long as they stock food I'm OK. I don't grocery shop for the ambiance. If you like Rochester, stay here. I was just commenting on a personal decision our family made to leave.

You get Wegman's, I get a better standard of living, far less crime (we checked), a huge selection of employers and to keep more of the money I earn. To me, that's a great trade off.

Well I was replying to the poster "taxation without representation" unless this pertains to you or you post under that name as well.

And more power to you if you're in a better living situation, I am not knocking you. Rochester is my home and will always be.

Houses above $250K are not moving well in Rochester (or Buffalo or Syracuse). We have been receiving lowball and speculative offers. We are motivated sellers to get this behind us, as we have both accepted positions in Atlanta, and my husband has already started. The market is by no means strong. Obviously you are not in it.
Actually the $250-$300K house market has more transactions than another price point in Monroe County. The market(buyers) determines the actual value of a home not the seller.

Hey Mr Hate,

I sure hope that you had the chance to watch one of the most highly watched tv events of the year last night ... Yes the Academy Awards .. The birthplace of the far left and guess what the fans loved the show.

Liberals like to live life and be entertained !!

Just compare the rating last night to any show within the last year over at the blowhard station Fox news. Even the very hot babes that fox uses all the time cant help them.

The nicest thing about moving is we will have more Republican neighbors. You know, people that work and are not interested in giving money away to the welfare leeches and frauds. People that want to see America prosper. I won't miss Rochester one bit.

Linda,

First of all I am as liberal as they come however I also agree that america needs to stop the welfare state and make everyone work for all that they need in life. I was taught that you provide for your family and if you want more you just need to work more to obtain it. See liberals share some common thoughts.

My bet is after a year you will miss many of the good things that people tend to overlook about Rochester.

.also the babes on fox are way better than the dykes in Hollywood any day........lol. And....
Yes I notice liberals like to enjoy life...... With other peoples money ....

Love life and love my business.....love creating jobs and do not discriminate. When liberals think they can spend MY money better than I can then that just sucks. I put people to work.....government puts people on dependency and gives billions to failed business bailouts.

What has Rochester done for me a previous post stated ? Not a damn thing .

NYS has bankrupted me and 1000,s of others . NYS ran my business into the ground by programs like Worker's Comp monopoly , Child -support Garnishments and Insane taxes on my gross income . At the end of the year i was only making 20, 000 $ after a 100,000 $ gross .

My employees made more than me . WTF . I did all the work , had the insurances , tools , vehicles , accountants , attorney's etc ... and then I OWED TAXES ... NYS . A wonderful place to DIE .

What ruined it . A sinister plot by Fabian Socialists and CORRUPTION in GOV"T .

911 A gov't terrorist plot not only war with nations opposed to the World Bank , but a Plot to demonize Christian Values and conservatism as a whole . The Bank buyout robbed us of our hard work . We are a bankrupt nation now . No one spends money on home improvements and that ruined me as well . I'm sick of this Policy of corruption . Gov't Industry ---Sounds like Socialism .
What FREE MARKET . People are not just fleeing the North US , they are LEAVING the Country for good . They are the smart ones .

IT's going to hit the fan in the USA very soon . What do you think all the bullets ordered and armor/military weaponry are for .

The South atleast has well armed communities , and realize the FRAUD at hand .

What has NYS done for me ? 45 years of Servitude as a debt slave to a most corrupt State Gov't , only concerned for NY CITY . F U N Y

You don't know what you are talking about! What an ignorant statement! I know lots of liberals who are just as hard working and wants works to get ahead, myself included. The only difference is many hard working liberals help the less fortunate, unlike you conservatives. Not all liberals are welfare recipents if that what you're implying

99% of commie libs are on the dole of some sort or work for government.....fact
How the hell do you think Clitoon .... Reid.....Nobama....slaughter ....Cuomo ....and the other commies got in power ?
Explain to me why a successful person would vote to raise their taxes ???
I'm listening .

I help the less fortunate by creating jobs......you libs think giving away money for free is helping the less fortunate ? You only confirm that it's true that most libs aren't educated enough to understand that taking money from successful people and giving it to those lazy people isn't working.....you need to go back to school but this time pay for it with your money instead of other peoples money ..... Unless you commit a crime ....then it's free .

Farewell, Alveterzane, Adieu.

We leave Saturday AM. Good wishes to my former fellow Rochesterians. And the house is finally sold (Monday night, no contingency, cash deal) to an older couple MOVING BACK TO ROCHESTER for retirement near their kids/grandchildren.

As my husband calls them: the suckers that bought our house. He wonders when the kids will wise up, pack up and leave. Sad thing is, the son works at Kodak.

Good bye.

You might want to check the stats about who gives the most money RePig. The conservatives donate appox 5+ times more that the liberals. Your dear president took every deduction and used every loophole he could on his 2012 taxes. Your vice president donated less money than I did, so much for your "liberals" help the less fortunate. Just for fun check out which party people belong to that collects the most from government programs, I'll give you a hint, it isn't republicans or conservatives.

I lived in Rochester for my first 38 years, left in 1988 when the economy in Rochester was not nearly as bad as it is now. I'm now on the east coast of south Florida and wish I had gotten here 25 years sooner. As far as the weather the real story is that you are trading off it being 10 degrees warmer in the summer than in Rochester, and in return you are getting seven more months of warmth, color, outdoor activity, no cabin fever, no shoveling snow, and no driving in blizzards and on black ice. That alone to me is a no brainer. My property taxes are about $750.00 per year. My total utility bill averages about $100 per month over the whole year. No state income tax. Yes we had hurricanes here in 2004 and 2005 that caused major damage to our house, but the insurance took care of that and no hurricanes since, knock on wood. It had been 50 years since our area took a direct hit from a hurricane before that. The power was out for two weeks after each hurricane, but that is not much different than what happens up there after an ice storm. If I have my choice of being without power for two weeks in 20-30 degree temps or in 70-80 degree temps I choose 70-80 every time. Mother Nature has something dangerous for you no matter where you live, I can live with the hurricane possibility given all the other pluses. Economically I always felt I was spinning my wheels in Rochester, nothing ever went right until I got out of there - Once we got here my wife and I quickly accumulated a nice retirement nest egg and we are now both comfortably retired and very happy with our present and our future. Rochester is where I grew up but I have to say that moving south was the best decision I ever made, after being here for 17 years I can't imagine why anyone would want to move there or to live in a frigid economically dying crime infested wasteland.

Yes weather and taxes are a huge issue here in Rochester. Some people have moved to Florida for the weather but what I hear from friends that I have living there they have there issues also. Crime is a huge factor in South Florida. The fact that much of the population is transient is also a big problem.

Rochester has its problems for sure but Florida is not a place that I will ever call home.
