"City School district had a 27% truancy rate. More than a quarter of school age kids are not going to school!"

What good is a longer day when 27% don't show up on any given day?

35 Million Dollars

Maybe we should spend 35 million dollars on fixing schools or roads or something meaningful instead of punishing law abiding tax paying citizens. Maybe hire some armed guards for schools. Hire some truancy officers that can tazer kids not in school and allow them to beat or pepper spray repeat offenders and their parents. You know what I could do with 35 million dollars? Combined with welfare reform, I could create a whole lotta jobs, with less waste than the Gubment, and they would be self sustaining and give folks some pride working instead of sucking off the Gubment teat feeling sorry for themselves and (being)feeling worthless. I would like to see gun free zones eliminated, all zones protected, not just the elitist scumbags in office having security. I'd make NY the gun manufacturing capitol of the world and we would have streets you can walk down and not be afraid of being robbed, raped and killed.

they have no idea what "pride" is and could care less about any title.
the truancy problem isn't the kids, it's the parents of the missing kids.
let's charge them with "endangerment" or "promotion of delinquency", something. anything.
we need to stop this mess.

It's called "educational neglect"...but it costs the district a fortune because they have to actually take the parents to court. smh

"Section 1012 (f) the Family Court Act (FCA) identifies a “neglected” child as a child less than eighteen years of age
(i) whose physical, mental or emotional condition has been impaired or is in imminent danger of becoming impaired as a result of the failure of his parent or other person legally responsible for his care to exercise a minimum degree of care

(A) in supplying the child with adequate food, clothing, shelter or education in accordance with the provisions of part one of article sixty-five of the education law, or medical, dental, optometrical or surgical care, though financially able to do so or offered financial or other reasonable means to do so; (emphasis added)
Please note that the term “parent or other person legally responsible for his care” as used in the FCA refers to the parent, custodian, legal guardian or other person legally responsible for the child. References in this document to the “parent” should be understood to also include custodians, legal guardians and other persons legally responsible for a child.(See Section 1012(a) and (g) of the FCA.)

Per Part One of Article 65 of the New York State Education Law, Section 3205(1)(c), the following age requirements apply:

•A child must attend full time school instruction in September if he/she turns six years old on or before the first day of December of that school year. Please note: The school year begins on July 1st and runs through June 30th."

so, let's streamline this process, take the kids, educate them and house them all together in "Obama Educational Camps", that way, they'll get:
3 square a day
medical care
dental care
a good education
manners
a work ethic
the ability to relate and comprehend speech and printed input from their peers and society as a whole
a shot at making it in the world, away from their derelict unsupportive loser birth parents.

And the best part, we are already paying for all that already.

Welcome back.
THX.
we already pay for a flawed plan.
the weak link is the parents.
expecting more handouts and the schools to raise their spawn.
let's face it; it's going to take at least 2 generations to get America back on track. In the meantime, let's weed out the losers.
And, for all the haters; move. Now. Just move. Canada. Jamaica. Britain. Costa Rica, Brazil.
You don't want to be here, We'll pay for your departure. And, you'll sign ze papers stating that you've left for good.
Oh, you can visit, but you can't stay.
Remember, you wanted to go, because it was SO much better elsewhere. See how the Costa Ricans like your lib gun policies.
Ask the Sandanista's to turn their guns in.
Just remember, a lot of those paradise islands that you compare the U.S. to are run by dictators, or monarchies that only want your dollars.
Good luck.
