Good Luck with that!
Things don't usually end well for those "camps" and their inhabitants.
So far........it's doing better than any key stone cop could do.

Before guns and pits .....robbed 7 times
After guns and pits. Robbed 0 times

Don't believe me ? Try calling one..... lmao.
The only way to get a cop when you need one is to tell the 911 dispatcher to stop protecting liberal communist non- paying tax scum and protect those who do pay tax. They'll come pissed off and bite the hand that feeds them.
We here at the ranch don't call cops anymore....we use Smith and Wesson, pit bulls & expensive security systems.
I'd hate to be in your shoes. You sound like you live a life that truly SUCKS.
Or maybe it just sucks to be you, maybe ?

sucky, sucky, sucky.

Nah......My life is great.....self made millionaire ......but it does suck when liberals come around and steal things. At first it made me try to figure out how to eliminate them but .... I guess it's a hobby now and I'm starting to enjoy it. Love my guns, pit bulls but my security system does on occasion break down......damn

You got rid of a perfectly good chief before you had a replacement set up in the wings. Way to go slick. Are you that dumb?

The only place you're a "self-made millionaire" is on Topix. In reality, you're a broke a ss loser with no life. Successful people don't flaunt their wealth. In fact, most downplay it. Dumba ss. No one is impressed.

I think you forget that the chief is an appointed official by the mayor and therefore the mayor pulls the strings. There have been some good chiefs in RPD and Chief Sheppard was one of them. He can't do anything without approval from the mayor. So the crime rate, the enforcement lay directly on the mayor. The mayor won't do anything drastic because they want to get re-elected again. There should be a separation of powers when it come to the mayor and police chief. Far too many political favors are done when you have an appointed police chief by the mayor, and that's simply wrong.

With the exception of Sheriffs, all most all executive LE offices are political appointees.
What your suggesting would be like the military deciding on its own who to declare war on.
Ther has to be some accountability/control to a civilian authority.

No I'm not suggesting that at all, great twist though. What I am suggesting is that there be a separation of powers when it come to a politician picking a law enforcement leader. When a politician holds all the power that makes the chief a puppet. When that happens there are political favors done on the law enforcement side. When that happens the code of ethics is thrown out the window. The chief should be selected by his/her peers. Which means the chief will be held accountable by his force. If the chief is weak or isn't doing the job then a new election is held, and this way there is no political influence or favors done. A mayor or any other politician should not be able to influence a case in any manner.

No twist what so ever, that's exactly what your suggesting.
The Police Dept. would be completely autonomous without any civilian controls. Short of criminal wrong doing we can't get rid of bad Cops now. Imagine if a bad Cop was able to seize control of a Dept. by a simple majority of other bad Cops.

You are clueless aren't you. Tell me the last time, no make that the first time a police agency was completely taken over by it's employees. Here I'll help you.....NEVER. You need to get better educated because you don't have a clue how it even works.

Police Chief should be an elected position. The people should pick who is in charge of policing them.

Only problem with an elected police chief by the people is that it becomes a political horse show. Who ever has the back of the stronger politicians....WINS. Or you could end up with an Obama as a police chief and we all know how that one turned out.

That's completely separate issue. The people should be in charge of deciding their own police chief and be able to remove them when they fail.

You just made my point exactly. We have politicians that have failed over and over again and they don't get removed. Election by their peers, then if they fail they can be removed by those peers.

So let me get this straight. You think that police should be trusted to elect their own leader? And this will end police corruption? That is the making of a police state. Your model is the most flawed of them all. Sorry but their is nothing patriotic about that scenario.
Fix the damn two party system. Let the people pick who govern their lives. Hells bells the police already have to much power, they don't need more.

You always come back with the name calling and insults. Try having a civil conversation for once.

No, I don't need your help finding an example. Your memory must be pretty short.
Here's a few clues Meritt Rahn, Greece NY, major cover up's and corruption.

All because the person that should have been able to remove him from command couldn't.
For reasons similar to the what you're suggesting should be the process for installing and removing a Police Chief.
