One of the best, if not the best band of the early seventies was
freedom Tree, with Jimmy Culp, Terry Lasaponara, Louie Fusilli,
Jimmy Gombatto and a great snger named Nancy. They played an
oldies set last and the place went crazy.......also did great Four Seasons medleys.....became a tour band for Ramada Inns.
YES-GREAT BAND who later formed ILLUSION with several same members(See my post pg3-july 29,2013)I believe singer was Nancy Hamburger if I recall correctly. She,Marcy Downey(Who last I heard was with Buddy Sebastion playing in FL and Roch),and another female vocalist did a live concert on WCMF around mid to late 70's which I have a cassette recording of hiding somewhere in my ManCave.Great harmonies, remembering in particular,Bugle Boy Of Company B.

Hi Jim - my brother was the drummer in Macbeth in the earrly 70's. His name was John Chase. Guy Delvecchio (not sure that is the correct spelling) was the lead singer . Kaye Thomas on organ. Can't remember guitar or bass. I was a kid at the time but just ran I to Guy last week.

They played at The Brass Rail a lot and were there when Cheech and Chong healined.

I would love to hear your memories of the group.

Gene was originally from Ottawa, Canada. He and his mother moved to Rochester in the late 50's. They lived on the Northeast side of the city and he attended Franklin High School. The bate shop owner may have been his step father? The only time I really heard him mention Rochester was on a recording of "People Gotta Be Free". If you listen closely right at the end there is a verse that is spoken, about the "Train of freedom" arriving. The last line is "look out Rochester,'cause it's a'commin' right on through". It was not in the original lyrics, which were written by Felix Cavaliere so it could be an improvisation by Cornish on the recording.
My dad used to go to that bait shop. It was owned by Ted Cornish, so was either Gene's father or Gene had taken his last name as his.

You mentioned Nancy Hamburger; was she in a band right before Illusion named Pearl Alley? They had an awesome, and very pretty, singer named Nancy but I can't recall her last name. The band was made up of the Wheat brothers from The Heard, Paul Krausman who played drums, I believe, and a couple other guys I can't come up with names for right now, but one of them played keyboards and also flute. His flute playing was truly as good as Ian Anderson.

I'm not sure what band Nancy was in before Illusion.I did find my Big Apple cassette tape recorded
Oct 25,1976-the third singer was Andrea Contestable.I think I remember early Illusion with 2 front female vocalists-Nancy and Andrea,I believe.

by the name Neal marvel?
==========
Neal Marvel and the Good Time Band played at bars in and around Fairport, NY. One of them also featured The Taco Kid who made tacos for I think 25 cents circa 1974. At one time the owner of the 414 Club was "Benny". Later it became Claud's Half Dollar. Also recall the Longbranch, Simpson's Donuts and the Circle Spot on Ridge Rd.

The guy asking the question about the Bars of the 70's got me to thinking. What ever happened to the members of The Quirks, The Herd, Showstoppers, Oxford Watchband, Brass Buttons, etc.? There was alot of talent back then. I know Don Potter (Showstoppers) has his own Christian ministry now, and Bat McGrath (Showstoppers) is still in the area-Naples I think, The Invictas are still jammin on occasion. I remember Lou Grammitico (Lou Gramm)was in (i think) Black Sheep(?) and his brother Benny played drums AND trumpet "the same time!!" with (again, I think) the Oxford Watchband. It would be great to have some of these guys get back together again at one of the old clubs, wouldn't it?
I played organ with the Brass Buttons the last 9 months of their existence. Joe lives in Phoenix, AZ
Bobby committed suicide about 3 years after the break up of the band. Danny Labatte is live and kickin, enjoying his life and playing gigs. Jay lives in AZ - not singing. Every body went their own way.

Lets not forget about The Winfield and Wintonaire on Winton Road, near East Main...and the 747 disco club and 2001 disco...and The Barrel, Maxwells (Silver Hammer), Peabodys (Merchants Road) The Playpen(Scottsville Rd??), California Brew House,
And, does anyone remember the name of the disco that was a converted church in the Old Village Mall on Main St in Webster in the 70s? As I remember, the owner named it after his young son.... And, lets not forget Bosdyks on LYell & Longpond Rd....Oh...my brain is hurting!!!!
