just call Sal.

A lot of people died by the gun in Bensonhurst near where Sal Perrone grew up on 82nd St. near 18th Ave. before eventually moving to Staten Island.

As a kid walking home from school (Fredrick Douglass) passing by 3 houses on Fernwood Pk that everybody knew were owned by mob affiliates. One winter a bad storm came and me and a freind went 2 one of those houses and asked 2 shovel, they guy was big and looked mean, but said HELL yea hook me up. He gave us $75 and that was in 1985

If the Mafia was still prominent in the city, it certainly wouldn't have turned into trash like is has.

Right, because the mafia were really, really good guys wearing white hats, right? Ah yes, stroll back down memory lane when people were raped, murdered, controlled, intimidated, and suffered immense amounts of extortion from their own kind. MOST Italians do NOT respect nor glamorize mobsters because they are criminals. The only ones who DO are usually homely men who watch too many movies instead of getting laid properly. The same dopes into Steven Segal are into Don Corleone and have wet dreams about sipping annis with DeNiro. Grow the fuck up already. Stop saying the problem with the town is black gangs or not enough other types of gangs aka mob and blame it on what it REALLY is. Not enough good, hard working people taking responsibility for their own choices, their own actions, and their own lives AND doing the right freaking thing when the opportunity arises. You people who worship the illusory glamour of the mob have gone beserk or were born retarded. The good men wear white hats. They put their lives on the line every freaking day for people dumb enough to drink and drive, dumb enough to join gangs, dumb enough to steal from their neighbors and piss in their own neighborhoods, dumb enough to steal, rob, rape, and murder. Then they put their lives on the line for dummies who fart, drink too much, weigh too much, and complain too much about the world's problems while they themselves do nothing about making it any better. You're weak and disgusting, but you're not MEN. Your women don't respect most of you because all you do is TALK. No Action. You leave it to MEN to do the right thing for you so you can watch sports and scratch your asses. Then you have the stupidity to suggest the problem with the city isn't yourselves, but a lack of old school murderers. Srsly, can you get ANY dumber or have you pretty much bottomed out now? Please go crawl under a can of beer and die.

It was fun back in the seventy's I have nothing but Good memories of those days. Those guys wear stand up guys Nothing like the wimps that call thenself gangsters Today. Nothing but a bunch of punks Run the streets today Selling their little bags of weed and crack And shooting and killing people for 20 dollars. Give me the days when men were men. I am ashamed of what's out there today. These punks have the nerve to call themself men. I laugh at you.

Does anyone remember going to Ben's Cafe around 1968-1970? I am looking for a few people who worked there. There was a group that played there too, if anyone knows their names and/or where they are now. They were a popular band during that time and through the 70's in Rochester.
Great times there. Several groups come to mind. The workers and clientele had special personalities. Friday nights especially!

Anyone that makes threats on a thread is obviously a nobody. My grandpa was a street captain and is still alive and crazy as ever. As long as he's alive as far as I'm concerned so is the mob

now THAT'S funny shit!.
A Captain.
The Asians and the Russians own the streets now.
The African community could have tossed the Italians years ago and missed their opportunity. They were stupid, infighting non-businessmen.
The Russians had years of practice, when they got here, it was like taking candy from a babe. Heartless and calculating.
The Asians are heartless and fast.
A Captain! What a Hoot!

Lots of nonsense posted in this thread by too many wannabes. Back in the day, the city was a safer place, but it had little to do with the Mob or the Mafia, or whatever you want to call it. Even the guy who grew up in the 10th ward had it wrong. While it's true the areas around the clubs were safe, like the 44 Club on Lake and Tom's place on Lyell, all areas, with the exception of the 'inner-city,' were A LOT safer than they are today.

A few reasons for it:

For the most part, the criminal class was still confined to the inner-city

The cops had to deal with Saturday Night Specials, rather than stolen 9 mills with 15-round clips

Al Skinner

It's interesting to note that under the Obama Administration, the criminal class is now a protected, criminal class.
