Has anyone noticed how all the old "Parking Area" signs have been replaced with "Texting Area" signs. Tell me, how does a state that is supposedly broke and can't get budgets together find enough money to do such a trivial overhaul? How much do these signs cost?? I'm guessing a pretty penny considering the heavy gauge metal and printing of them. How much did it cost to have the old ones taken down and new ones put up? Does anyone feel better having them? Will this change anything for the better?
Screw you N.Y. state government. You want to tax people more because you claim you need more money. Just look what you do with it.

And people are moving out in epic numbers, with no new businesses moving in. How much do the ads promoting NY MEANS BUSINESS -- running nationwide -- cost?

Just screw them on taxes. They don't deserve an accurate share. They squander our money.

The signs used to say "Rest Area". I noticed the change driving up in late Oct to visit family in Rochester. I was on 390 and looking for a rest area and DROVE BY a "text area" thinking it was just a pull off for texting. As I passed by (too late to enter) I noticed it was a rest area, with bath rooms, that I had used many times in the past! Bu!!sh**!

Know I'm just guessing here. Based on my experience in the general costs of materials those signs probably cost (in my guesssing estimate): What, at least a grand?
Plus what,$25-$40 an hour each for a crew of probably at least 4 highway workers? Again, just an educated guess. I'm sure it cost a good amount of coin that N.Y. supposedly does not have. A total waste by any standard.

Gov. Cuomo needs to up up some signs in the hood, GUN USE HERE. That should help lower our out of control violence in Rochester.

Exactly. DRUG TRANSACTION AREA and MURDER ZONE. You must direct people (thugs) to the right areas to prevent this activity randomly.

We need more signs. Many other states are trying to slow signage because they become eye clutter and superfluous, but in NYS we can't put signs up fast enough.

Vinnie: Oh and don't forget the new law by Gov. Cuomo requiring casinos to post PROBLEM GAMBLER HELP SIGNS. Why didn't we think of signage sooner to ride our country of all human vice? Got problems to deal with, just put up a sign.

And AFRO-AMERICAN CROSSING so all of the thousands of suburban white drunk drivers (I got this stat directly from Rhonda, so it has to be credible) can avoid hitting them. Problem solved.

Sure, problem gamblers will heed signs... on their way to the ATM to tap out their line of credit.

O.K. who think my estimates are nuts. How much do you think the lowest possible cost was for this pointless endeavor?

The small signs(no parking size)cost anywhere between $95 and $125. The overhead signs on the thruway can cost a couple of thousand + apiece not including labor. I wonder if Cuomo or Schumer has a family member that is in the sign business? Another waste of taxpayer's money by the state.

So as these signs are quite large (about the size of overhead signs slightly smaller) my estimate is realistic. N.Y. state government is better at throwing away money than a QVC shopper.

Factor in all the state workers that watch a couple of guys hoist the sign in place, plus the loser Troopers parked with their lights on. Each sign, when all the indirect costs are factored in, cost many thousands.

But it's NYS, we have tons of cash. don't we? How about the ads they are running state wide to tell us we're tough and resilent, "better than ever". Thanks, I feel much better now.
