I remember when the Beatles were at the former Speedway Motel in the 60s. Girls were screaming and tore the grass away where the Beatles walked.

Remember when The Beatles stayed overnight at the Speedway Motel. The girls screamed and tore out chunks of grass where they walked. The airport was a madhouse too. Just dating my self, but boy what a memory.

I just hope that the employees who have lost their job will get first shot at employment with whatever does end up going there (save for the possibility of it turn into just another parking lot).

You can't blame them entirely if it really is true that updating and upkeeps would cost more than it brings in. No one is in it for losing more money in todays market.

Poor Tony Hulman...he has turned over in his grave many times since his "wonderful" daughter and grandson have taken over the Speedway.
Another IMS landmark is going away.
I guess greed outways memories.

How about the Brickyard Motel having a huge sale on the fixtures/furniture of the hotel. Acquainted with many interested people wanting/needing to purchase these items at reasonable price. M

I don' know what I'm gonna do. Every year when I go to the Brickyard I stop in the motel so I can use the bathroom. Now I'm gonna have to use one of the porta johns which isn't a problem, it's just that those were nicer bathrooms.

The motel will be missed. I have many fond memories of it. Attending classes on racing held by Donald Davidson, seeing drivers like the King, the Unsers and others.

I suppose you would rather they just lose money, pretty easy to say when its someone else's money.Things sometimes have to change to survive.Small changes like this allow them to NOT have to sell to some mega-corp that would completly gut the speedway and make it just another sterile racetrack, plus they would be begging for taxpayers to pay for it.

If it were not such a money hungry event some of us less fortunate race attenders could afford to stay in the dilapitated motel but when they are charging the prices they do they come out on the short end of the stick. Speaking of, with what they charged they should have had no issues refurbishing it. IMHO!!!

It is a sad, sad day! My husband and I have stayed at this motel many time and have many, many very good memories there and we are going to miss this place and carry very heavy hearts. I must also state that with the closing of the motel, we may now come to Indy this year for the Brickyard 400 or the NHRA Nationals. I want to wish all the fine people who have helped us during our stay and will no longer be an employee, the best of luck in whatever you do.
