Has anyone heard what happened to the police officer that was caught on tape beating an arrested individual? I heard there were two officers involoved and that only one was being investigated.

This is typical behavior for the Craig County Sheriff/Vinita Police departments. The only way to get their attention is to sue them into oblivion. These goons are more worried about school crossings, minor traffic violations and beating handcuffed citizens than they are about the meth labs and other crimes running rampant in the county. Craig County law enforcement is the worst in the state.

is anyone really surprised by this? the abuse of police powers is extreme, especially in "good 'ol boy" small counties and towns, like vinita. i could go on and on and on about the vinita and the injustice within the law enforcement...for the entire county as well. Justice delayed is not justice denied and if you live there, i suggest you get out. i have searched for more info on these allegations. I want to know who the officers were, and what the administrative consequences were, etc. this can not be allowed to happen again, but it will and that sucks.

Guy, 3 of the top 5 posts in this forum have to do with Vinita/Craig County/NEO Sheriff/Police misconduct. All the posters in this blog can't be wrong. If you live away from here, you're lucky. The best thing for travelers to do is to avoid the area.

If you want to get along with the authorities here just follow a few simple steps: 1. Don't drink and drive. 2. Don't use drugs. 3. Don't sell drugs. 4. Don't steal. 5. Don't fight. 6. Don't speed. 7. Don't run red lights and stop signs. 8. Keep your tag and license up to date. 9. You get the picture.

Guy, this is a crock. The topics in this forum are about law enforcement misconduct. Just look a the topics: Police DWI's, personal use of squad cars, Police beatings of arrestees, Police counterfeiting. Good grief, it has nothing to do with us civilians being good citizens.

Maybe you are loking at a different forum than me, but the only thing I have read is about the alleged beating of a suspect in Vinita. I do not see anything on here about Police DWI's, use of squad cars, etc. My point was, if you do not get arrested, you do not have to worry about getting beaten, and if you do not break the law, you won't get arrested.

There are 4 threads about police misconduct in this area. Oh, and I forgot the one about the officer who tried to pawn his city-owned police equipment.

Oh, and I forgot the one about the officer who tried to pawn his city-owned police equipment. I found to threads-about the funny money and the pawning of the police issue weapons. these are both about the same officer, the Police Chief of Fairland. Fairland is in Ottowa Co., not Craig, and certainly not in Vinita. I do remember when Vinita had a police officer arrested for DUI a while back and they fired him. Sometimes you just get bad apples. I've known Craig Co. Sheriff Jimmy Sooter and Undersheriff Bob Floyd for 25 years and they are good guys. I think they'll do right and if they find someone in their office doing wrong they will get rid of them. I have also known Vinita Police Chief George Hicks for many years and he's a good man also. I guess there has been some police corruption in the area, but I do not believe anyone can produce evidence that very much of it has been in the Craig Co. Sheriff's dept. or the Vinita Police Dept.

do they teach them how to beat arrestees at CLEET? i thought that's what pepper spray or tazors were for, not physically fighting/beating. the criminal term for beating is assualt. so...a police officer (that may seem genuine and straight) has assaulted someone. what else is there to argue? p.s. you don't have to break the law to be harasssed by the law...trying divorcing someone with a relation to law enforcement...IN VINITA --post by justice_denied with a clean record (by the way)

i'm sure that they are very good people, but are the officers they hire to work for them? please tell me that you are not in denial that the "good 'ol boy" or "good 'ol buddy" system exists around there!

Wow. I just wanted to see what was going on at former hometowns. When I lived in Vinita about 25-30 years ago, the Vinita Police Department was the most corrupt thing around. They were more concerned about minor traffic violations than dealing with major crimes, such as drugs. How do I know this if I was a kid at the time? My dad was a Vinita police officer, fired because he took a stand to make changes. He was basically run out of town as soon as they could "justify" his firing for incidental minor damage to a patrol car. But the bad habits he picked up stayed with him and he eventually was caught and kicked out of law enforcement. I would have expected now-Chief George Hicks to clean things up. He was Dad's good friend. And Sheriff Jimmy Sooter was still just my school PE coach and neighbor. It's really sad if all that you're saying is true.

Nobody knows the circumstances except the people that was there. All you people that sit back and listen to the gossip need to keep your mouth shut and mind your own business. Ihave grown up with havinf=g a dad in law enforcement and now have a brother and a husband in it. Until you live it you dont know wat police officers deal wtih everyday. It is not like a 9 to 5 job. So can it and get a life. By the way if you had a probelm you sure wouldnt hesitate to call one off those police officers. Hypocrite

I lived in Vinita for the first 18 years of my life. I know George Hicks personally and he is a good, upright man. I was a student of Jimmy Sooter and find him to be the same. I also went to school with Clint Walker who was the police chief in Fairland. I'm sorry to see what became of him. My experience is that people who behave, don't need to worry about running afoul of the cops. Sure, they get bored sometimes and make a bigger deal out of relatively innocuous matters, but they operate within the law. And the few times they haven't were dealt with quickly and severly.

Don't know Guy or recognize anyone else on this blog but if War Dog is from Miami, OK (Ottawa County) then he knows firsthand about corruption in law enforcement. There has been plenty of it in that county - but hey there is plenty in all counties in Oklahoma, small or large. Most Oklahoma state and county entities are underfunded and understaffed. There is more to worry about than Craig County politics (Obama's stimulus package, drug war spilling over the border from Mexico, over-paid, elderly people who can't buy medicine, Iran's nuclear plans). The list goes on, so get over the small potatoes in Vinita - Craig County America.

I need to tell you that the "over paid" in my previous comment should have said over-paid, corrupt financial execs, not over-paid elderly people.

You get the picture. shut up ive ben arrested by them twice yes both drug charges. weed.but who was i hurting..while i was sitting in the cop car with three other individuals a car drove by going 65 on a road running adjacent to thompson st (residential area) now me and and my friends parked in another friends drive way smoking a joint but we where more of a threat than that person. and the entire the officers told us we were fuckers little shits dumbass cuffed to of my friends together and kept making homosexual remarks (wishful thinking i guess) also one time it took 6 cops and a drug dog to inform me that the tent on the benz is a little dark lol three pointed star on the hood and the cop still asked what kinda car it was.. there friggin dumb. also one day on my way to school i got arrested for having an empty pipe. seriously they should have given me a ticket and let me go. but no they are bent on destroying kids lives. any way i get bailed out and i get to school 3rd hour and within ten minutes the same two cops that arrested me are knocking on my classroom door with the dog and they told everyone to get out. i said f that and walked outside and in the parking lot is two hypo tahoes and two county cop cars and three city cop cars and three more dogs in the lot.. all because i got arrested that morning....ive got hella more stories. plus the said individual that was beat up by curry and flud is a really good friend of mine. they beat him up in front of the police station while he was in cuffs. oh ya one night i got arrested and had to stay in the detox tank...same night that dude sped by. well me and my bros get to the jail and there was a dude in there and curry hit him in the head with a flash light after he was in cuffs.... so im thinking they like control...oh wait thats why there cops in a small town.
