Southlake flea market closes after 60-plus years

We know there are lots of people who loved the flea market and will miss it. But Southlake is a different city now, and the flea market is just not a good fit anymore. Southlake may have grown into an upscale suburban community, but every week brought a reminder of its rural past. via Denton Record-Chronicle

Very sad to see a life long tradition end, will miss going there on Tuesdays and will miss the people too.

I am truly saddened to see the passing of such a great tradition. It was always a thrill to find unexpected treasures. I made a few good friends out there and many acquaintances. 60 years of tradition and gone in the blink of an eye. I truly hope someone comes along and donates the use of their pasture in a neighboring town for this tradition to continue. I know many of these vendors lived out of their cars and counted on this weekly income.

It is a sad thing when Southlake thinks they are too upscale for tradition. Instead of doing away with it the city of Southlake shoul have invested in improving the grounds to bring in more vendors and attract more business. Maybe Grapevine will find it to be a good fit and prosper from it.

Closing this is sad, but much of the crime in the area is attributed to this flea market. Not to mention the liability the landowner has which I believe is the Stacy Family. Sorry to see it go, like so many other traditions - it just does not fit our society any more. Take a drive down to Canton if you are looking for a garage sale.

Yeah, i hate to see it go, Great Place!! city should have improved it instead of doing away with it. ohh well there's always denton's 380 flea market in denton, and princeton's 380 flea market also called vons beauty shop. but they're just on the weekends.

i really would like for them to re open it my parents use to set up there for many years selling produce that was my summer fun going out to the fleamarket
